Sad that Machi is out.............gonna lose tons of points.

Ruben injured himself this week in Brazil. Too bad since he's close to the top 100 and generally plays well in Chilean events. Hope he can return to action quickly. At least now, Simone will be seeded here, which is good.

Blaz got a good draw to add to what he did this week. I hope for a SF. Prodon hasn't been doing much of anything this season but of course his form could reappear at any time. He defends finalist points so he should be motivated.

Edu vs Simone sucks for me, but it's a match Simone should win. He beat Edu last year, and Edu has been struggling with injuries and been without form. If Simone beats Edu, his R2 could be tough if it's Facu Arguello. I can see a deep run or early exit for Simone but hopefully he builds on what he did in Brazil and gets closer to the top 100.

On the bottom half of the draw the Zeballos vs Gensse and Marti vs Rufin matches are tough, and Bagnis in that section too. I hope Zeba makes the final but he probably wont.

Filo V.
03-05-2012, 04:39 PM
I thought Schwartzman had the game to be a good player in the future and expected him to have some good runs in challengers, but his lack of a serve looks like it will be a severe impediment to his career. 33% of service points won in a 4-6 4-6 loss to Kirche today in the FQR.

Looks like young Facu is a choker. Had leads in all three sets. Served for the match at *5-4 in the third, had a match point, eventually double faulted and then lost his serve. He starts missing first serves and has double-faultitis it seems when he gets tight.

Good win for Polaco in one of his final events.

Well, obviously, last week took a lot from Simone, or Edu is playing great. Probably a combination, but Simone definitely won't be able to back up his great week in Brazil. Oh well............onto Dallas and Miami.

Hopefully, Edu, if he does finish this match, can win some matches here and regain his confidence.

So how many match points did Blaz not take in the second set? Had to have been in the 4-5 range. Kirche is winning all of the big points the last two sets.

Filo V.
03-06-2012, 09:23 PM
So sad. I thought Blaz would take ONE chance of breaking in the third set since he had deuce in all but one serve game, and that service game he had 0-15. Kirche 8/8 break points saved set three and 8/9 break points saved in set two.

This loss is going to hurt, over 4 hours, and these are the types of dogfights Blaz almost always comes out of. Disappointing. The draw was so available for a deep run here, too.

willoughby
03-06-2012, 09:23 PM
I think Blaz had 4 mps at 63 65*

Kirche won 36 76(5) 63 in 4 hrs 6 min. Kavcic ended the match with 3/22 bp conversion..

Filo V.
03-06-2012, 09:26 PM
With Prodon playing bad, Bolelli and Kavcic out, talented youngster Arguello choking and losing again, top half of the draw is pretty much wide open. Maybe Eric will find form and make it. Or perhaps a youngster like Velotti will make a deep run.

I want a Edu vs. Zeba/Marti final now, with preferably Zeba winning.

RonaldGomez
03-06-2012, 09:30 PM
Kavcic is a great choker, already in Chennai this year he blew up a comfortable margin against Darcis...

Filo V.
03-06-2012, 09:35 PM
Blaz definitely has his choking moments but usually in challengers he outfights his opponent and his will is too much for the opponent to bear. Obviously Kirche wanted this very badly himself. I'm just disappointed, I'll have to delete this result from my memory.

03-07-2012, 05:19 PM
Eric has clearly fallen off. I was skeptical if he could carry his 2011 form into this season since he's never been consistent, so far the answer is no. Luckily for him, he has very little to defend the next several weeks although he was defending finalist points here, so he'll take a bit of a drop.

This result makes me more upset Blaz lost. Kirche, to play Alejandro Gonzalez to play Fernando Romboli is basically a lay-up SF he failed to take advantage of. Edu needs to make the finals.

Hopefully, Rufin can win this event, since he's by far, IMO, the best player remaining. Also since he can deny Crapdeville the title. But I'm guessing Crapdeville will win here.

Romboli has an aggressive game for a clay courter. His match vs Veic can go either way. Really depends on how many errors Romboli makes and how well he serves.
