1 USC vs 16 Tennessee
8 UCLA vs 10 Duke
4 Georgia vs 13 California
5 Florida vs 12 Pepperdine
6 Kentucky vs 11 Texas A&M
3 Ohio State vs 14 Texas
7 Baylor vs 9 Stanford
2 Virginia vs 15 Auburn

Yeah I like Virginia. Always such a good indoor team. There will be so many good 2nd rounds here. Georgia-Florida will decide who the frontrunner is in the SEC, UCLA will try to scare USC, if the Bruins get past Duke, Kentucky-Ohio State will determine who is for real outside the big 2, and Baylor/Stanford (probably Stanford) could give Virginia some trouble. It will e interesting

Posible upsets are Pepperdine over Florida. Florida is much deeper so the Waves will have to play well at 1-4 and doubles. But it is possible because Fanselow and Tearney are strong at the top.
UCLA vs Duke is the most interesting first round matchup. I give UCLA the edge due to their stronger players than Duke in the 4-6 parts of the line-up. It's more likely that Thompson can beat Mengel at the top than it is likely that Tahir and Hemmeler can beat Puget and Mkrtchian

OSU and Kentucky win 4-0. Both teams won at #4 and #5 singles. Hope these next two matches are closer.
02-17-2012, 07:01 PM
Georgia puts up impressive scorelines while winning 4-0 over Cal.
02-17-2012, 10:12 PM
Florida edged Pepperdine 4-3. Really disappointed in Llompart
02-18-2012, 12:27 AM
Too bad for Pepperdine. On the bright side, two good wins for their top 2 singles players.
Duke very impressive with 4 singles wins against UCLA. Doubles was really tight too, with all 3 going to tiebreaks.
USC as expected wins easily over Tennessee. Virginia appears to be headed for an easy win as well.
02-18-2012, 04:43 AM
Stanford wins 4-2. Looks like their depth was better than Baylor's as they took #1, #3, #5 and #6 singles. Klahn played #3. Lin lost again.
02-18-2012, 09:09 PM
USC leads Duke 1-0.
Steve Johnson vs Henrique Cunha will be the highlight at #1 singles
02-19-2012, 03:03 PM
What a tough loss for Kentucky yesterday to Ohio State. Dominated 1-3 singles but ended up with a loss. Ouch
02-19-2012, 03:07 PM
Scores are here. It's 1-4 in the semis, Ohio State with the closest call in the quarter. Strong singles performance by Georgia to beat Florida after dropping the doubles point
02-19-2012, 03:09 PM
Mitchell Frank def Bradley Klahn 7-6(6) 6-3 in a titanic singles tilt. For a while it actually looked liek Stanford was in control, but UVA turned it on and swept singles.
02-19-2012, 10:33 PM
Virginia vs Ohio State (http://www.virginiasports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=17800&ATCLID=205382675)
Ohio State up 1-0. This is one of the closest matches I have ever seen, every one of the singles matches are at 5-all at least. Kobelt putting in the performance of his life vs Frank he's up 7-5 2-2.
02-19-2012, 11:28 PM
Kobelt must have put the gym work in or something. He was so skinny when I last saw him play last year and deservedly played #5 singles.
02-19-2012, 11:53 PM
OSU takes out UVA. Wow.
02-20-2012, 12:01 AM
And down go the Cavs. Wow. Domijan and Frank can be blamed. Maybe the top 5 is more even than we thought? USC's win wasn't exactly convincing, albeit it was 4-1
02-20-2012, 12:57 AM
darklucia you should edit the title of this thrad to announce the upset and the pending final.
Major props to the Buckeyes today. One of the more impressive performances I have seen in a while. Every match was so tough and nail close in the 1st set. Nobody blinked. Kobelt became a legend today, from a #3 sacrifice stack to a player who knocks off the #1 player in the nation in 2 tight sets. Kept expecting Frank to make a move but never could.
02-20-2012, 01:40 AM
By the way, Stanford's bottom 3 come through vs Kentucky. Good win for the Cardinal.
02-20-2012, 01:48 AM
Lin over Jomby was the surprise in that match
02-20-2012, 08:24 PM
USC wins 4-3 over OSU. OSU picks up the doubles point. USC's Hanfmann clinches at #5.
Buchanan/Rola [OSU] def S. Johnson/Hanfmann 8-5
McCarthy/Van Engelen [OSU] v Nguyen/Sarmiento 7-6 DNF
Kobelt/Smith [OSU] def Gomez/Quiroz 9-8 (7-4)
Singles [finish order 3,4,6,1,2,5]
S. Johnson [USC] def Buchanan 6-3, 6-4
Rola [OSU] def Sarmiento 7-5, 6-3
Nguyen [USC] def Kobelt 6-1, 6-2
Gomez [USC] def Van Engelen 6-3, 6-4
Hanfmann [USC] def McCarthy 3-6, 6-3, 6-4
Smith [OSU] def E. Johnson 6-3, 7-6 (8-6)
02-21-2012, 02:37 AM
Rola did a great job at #2 rallying from 5-3 down in the 1st to give OSU 3 first sets, but it looked like Hanfmann was too tough at 5 for the Trojans. I must say OSU doubles is the real deal. They've always been dominate over the years at doubs
02-21-2012, 02:51 AM
Pretty entertaining final it appears.
02-21-2012, 04:28 AM
USC should have put Quiroz at 6. Almsot cost them. Yes he got killed by Pasha but still he could have beaten Smith I think.
All these teams are so clos. Ohio State made the finals but nearly lost to UK in the quarters. Georgia gave a good fight vs USC. It would have likely ended 4-3 had it been played out.
USC-UCLA now. Let's see how Novikov is playing ATM
02-17-2013, 08:13 PM
He got bread-sticked by Sarmiento :sobbing:
02-17-2013, 09:27 PM
Novikov def. Sarmiento 16 63 64
02-17-2013, 09:52 PM
This is exciting, UCLA-USC down to the wire.
02-18-2013, 01:07 AM
OSU's camp is so vocal
02-18-2013, 01:24 AM
UVA def. OSU 4-3 with Domijan's clinching victory over Kobelt 7-5 in the third. That was entertaining. Final tomorrow versus defending champ USC.

ITA tennis @ITATennis
No. 3 Mitchell Frank seals 4-2 @UVAMensTennis win over @USCMensTennis for #ITAIndoors National Title. 5th in six years for the Cavaliers.
Congrats to UVA on the title.

There is no dropoff to 4 with Ohio state they are right there with the LA schools. They have the strongest top 2 in the nation and Smith playing very well. Weakness at 3 and 6. I would try Christ at 6.
USC is impressive yet again. The improvement of Gonez and Quiroz was huge. Also looks like De Vroome is the real deal. I think USC should play Gomez at 1 going forward he has a bigger game that can challenge the top guys.
UCLA needs to be more consistent. Novikov needs to bring it more often at 1 and Puger has been slightly disappointing at 3. Thompson should be great at 5 but had shown signs of weakness.
Virginia showed done vulnerability this weekend. They showed some cracks. Styslinger and R.Shane were expected to absolutely roll at 4 and 5. But they showed they are beatable. Domijan should not lose at 2 all year, only chance is if he faces Kobelt again.
Frank isn't as dominant this year as he was last year but he still won't lose much. Still the team to beat bit not a title shoo in.
Both UVA and Ohio State are traditionally indoor teams while the LA teams thrive more outdoor. We will see if that trend continues this year.
Outside of the top 4. Really only Duke can break the set semifinals. Pepperdine has a great top 4 but weak in doubles and 5 and 6. I think Kentucky with Lai at 6 could be a dangerous team. Texas A&M was a big letdown in this tournament after a big win. Oklahoma was a bit disappointing as well.
