Fish must have the worst forehand in the history of mankind :o

Watching Wawrinka hit a backhand pass DTL from a Fish 2nd serve and volley over and over again nearly made me puke. Brainless tactics.

Good thing Fish got it done in the end.

Worst thing that could have happened for Federer.

Surprised by the result. Although I have just been reading that the ball goes through the air quickly over there, so that is certainly a huge benefit for the Americans.

Bad result for Switzerland in two respects.

Firstly, Stan was more likely to beat Fish than Isner imo...so he has given himself a lot of extra work to do on Sunday.

Secondly, Stan lost in 4.5hrs. Useless result, and now he won't be 100% for the doubles. Fish might get a day off.

USA suddenly small favourites for the tie now, having been strong underdog going in.

For Switzerland it`s a tough ask to win Davis Cup.They basically need their 2 guys in best shape in every tie.And without any real backup it`s unrealistic. And the sad part for the Swiss tennis is that they don`t have any up and coming player to join the group. With Lammer and Chiudinelli,2 journeyman in the team says it all about the overall quality of swiss tennis.

He played well back then but winning DC with a 2 man team a lot of things need to go right. One doubles match lost or the partner is in awful form and the tie is lost.

Actually, I think the only thing Fed can be faulted for is wasting his time in the first place to end up, pro tem, with these results in Davis Cup:

Federer Davis Cup record: 41-12

Retired Players:

Agassi : 30-6
Sampras: 19-9
Connors: 10-3
Borg: 45-11
Edberg: 47-23
Becker: 54-12

Nadal: 20-5

Really don´t know what to say, just that i lost valuable hours of my life watching this mugathon. Fish had MP and get broken, than Stan and his patthetic form... Fish is really average player, still don´t get it why he is in top 10 with such poor FH, but worse guys have been there too. Right now i think USA are favorites, they will win doubles and this mug Wawrinka won´t beat Isner. John will outserve him, even if in Tie-breaks he will win that rubber, but with the way Wawrinka is playing Isner won´t need even Tie-breaks...

Well, Fed's Olympic gold is from doubles. And, it's not as prestigious as single's gold. But, as Olympics are only every 4th year, it's kind of lottery, maybe Fed could've won single's gold medal in '05, '06, '07, and possibly '09. But, due to Olympics lottery-like nature, I think majors are the big thing, Olympic gold isn't as prestigious as a major title, unless a player has that major title already.

And, let's face it, Davis Cup and Fed Cup, as well as FIFA World Cup are just exhibition tournaments, even though quite serious ones. Players attend those conpetitions as they want to play for that prestigious title, but e.g. in football UEFA Champions League winning player is oter greater than World Cup winner. And slam winners are usually greater than winning Davis Cup team players.
