WWW:DC R1 Suisse vs. USA

It is Fish, Isner, Mike Bryan, Harrison vs. Federer, Wawrinka, Chiudinelli and Lammer on fast clay in Switzerland.

Does anyone know if Harrison, Chiudinelli, and Lammer will play in the 3rd doubles rubber? (Don't know the last two swiss guys)

Who will win?

Considering that USA don't have Roddick this year, I think Suisse wins in 4-1.

Edit:
R1 WAWRINKA vFISH

R2 FEDERER vISNER

R3 FEDERER WAWRINKA v BRYAN HARRISON

R4 FEDERER vFISH

R5 WAWRINKA vISNER

Who thinks Courier is not thinking straight putting Harrison in the doubles instead of Mardy Fish???

Go USA!
Though in my opinion Suisse will win every match. Fish is an utter mug even on his best surface hc, not to mention clay.

interesting that Courier chose Harrison to play the dbls. Its a surprise move that may pay off actually. Fedrinka must have been practicing anticipating Fish-Bryan pair. This move also means that Courier realises that USA should try and beat Federer in the singles and not just target Wawrinka. Too many teams do that against the Swiss. While that may be the obvious strategy it hasnt worked out too well off late. It may be the right thing to take it to the big name in the other team - the guy expected to win his matches. So the one day rest for Fish before playing Federer
Nonetheless, I still expect the Swiss to win this. 3-2 for the hosts is worst scenario I can think of in this tie.

Depends all on Wawrinka's form, Roger can't win it alone.

nope. Swiss without Federer went down 0-5 to Kazakh FGS

I hope the Swiss wrap it up in the first two days, I would like Roger to play Rotterdam, and play well. Its indoors afterall:D

interesting that Courier chose Harrison to play the dbls.

seldom does the composition of the double given on thursday really mean anything about what it will be on saturday.

Very often the captains do as Courier did : for the draw nominate two players for singles and the two other ones for doubles but on saturday they can decide whichever composition they want.

I know Harrison has a good serve-and-volley but I believe more in Fish or Isner playing the double, except maybe if they play a long match on friday : Isner already played with one of the Bryan brothers (don't remember which one  ) in Serbia in 2010 and they won.

By the way, in Serbia that year, Isner also took Djokovic to 5 very tight sets on indoor clay (and he had already played two matches before, one in 4 and one in 5 sets). He played very well that day.

Fed says that the tie will be tight, and I understand that he's careful.

3-2 for the USA. Fed will win both of his matches, but Wawrinka and the doubles will mess the things up.

Federer's a gimme in his two singles matches. USA has a shot in the other three, but I have no confidence in Fish right now and who knows what will happen in doubles, so I just don't see them winning all three matches they have a chance in.

Fed has a much better fast serve chip return, that's why Roddick gives Rafa and Nole trouble when he meets them on any surface not grass.

USA in the driving seat at the moment, but it isn't quite a done deal.

Bryan and Isner/Fish should clinch the tie, but you never quite know...
Federer would surely beat Fish in the 4th rubber.
Wawrinka/Isner would be reasonably close to 50/50, although you could probably argue a solid edge for John...

LawrenceOfTennis
02-10-2012, 08:45 PM
It all depends on Isner again.
Fis is never beating Federer.

The US had Harrison listed with Bryan for the 3rd rubber, but surely it will ultimately be Fish or Isner in Harrison's spot with the increased importance of this match...

Fish should play doubles because if things go badly, Isner can play against Wawrinka and won't be that tired but Fish played so much today.

To be honest Ryan should have stayed at home and prepare for San Jose. No need for him in this tricky and crucial situation.

Fish should play doubles because if things go badly, Isner can play against Wawrinka and won't be that tired but Fish played so much today.

Yes, Fish is better than Isner in doubles as well, I think, and his serve and his return of serve were very good today, his volley is of course good.

It all depends if he's fit or not.

As for singles, clay is much better for Isner than for Fish, then yes I agree with the one before : ISner had a better chance against Fed than Fish.

I had reminded as well that Isner had taken Djokovic to 5 tight sets in Serbia on clay in 2010, and after playing two matches already against Troicki (Troicki had won but had played great that day, I had already said in that time that his performance that day had been underrated) and in doubles.

Now I would guess USA will win 3-2 or maybe 3-0 : I hope Switzerland will win next 2 matches but I don't think Wawrinka can beat Isner : Wawrinka looked quite slow and tense today and his return is not good, and in tie-breaks Isner is one of the 3 best players whereas Wawrinka is one of the worst. Physically I don't think Wawrinka is at his best, and Isner's mental advantage (even bigger after today's events' effects on confidence) would be very important in case of a 5th match.

Switzerland has to hope for a miracle.

I'm devastated for Fed and even more for Wawrinka, for whom winning Davis cup is the biggest dream of his life as he said a few days ago. I really had hopes for Switzerland this year.

But Fish and Isner were both great today.

I bet they never thought they'd actually have a chance here.

Of course they did believe it !

it was very clear from Courier's, Fish's and Isner's comments before the matches.
