Who Outside The Top 4 Will Finish The Year Highest?

I'll bump this at the end of the year or something.

So who will end the year highest? Top 4 seems pretty much set after the AO for another top 4 finish.

I say Tomas Berdych. :p

Del Potro. May even finish 4. And Soderling will finish 6.

Berdych, yeah, I agree. Someone has to step into King Robin's rightful spot (who will require time to recover), and I think Berdych is the best man for the job. He still looks more formidable to me than post-injury Delpo, he can hit higher peaks than Ferrer, he's more consistent than Tsonga, and I think that the young usurpers are not quite ready to rise to that level this year.

Soderling will be happy to end the year top 10. He will be out of the top 25 a couple of weeks from now..:o:sad:

 He'll make it back to the top 10 though, he's too good to let those mugs like Tipsy, Mugro, and Simug finish ahead of him again.

Yeah, it sucks, but he's got a long road ahead of him at this point. He will climb back up the rankings, there's no doubt of that, but it may not be by the end of this year.

Ferrer or Tsonga.

Basically the question is who will end year 5th, we can assume that big 4 will end in 1,2,3,4th place, Ferrer is pretty consistent, i can see him end 5th, but his ending at 5th can only happen if Berdych or Tsonga let him, because Ferrer is only consistent guy, but not the one who can end 5th by himself, last year he was 5th only, because Soderling injured himself, Soderling already lost some points and who knows how good he will be after mono.., Delpo still won´t end 5th, he is getting better but still don´t see him end 5th, Berdych and Tsonga are my favorites. Berdych has advantage in term that he can play well on all surfaces, while Tsonga´s clay points are limited... so we will see who will end 5th, but i think Berdych-Tsonga it will be battle between them and if both failed, then consistent Ferrer will end 5th.. Delpo and Soderling will be top 10 but not 5th.

I hope Tipsarević or Berdych. But, frankly, I can't see Janko going that high, so I voted for Tomáš.

Really? I mean he has a title, but losing to an exhausted Nishikori in the AO... I don't know. Berdy is looking more consistent to me.

Berdych is more consistent at the Masters 1000 but didn't do that well at the slams... Tsonga is the opposite

i put my money on Berdych since he is likely to rack up more points from the slams than Tsonga could in the Masters series

I dont think Robin will recover his best after this hiatus but fingers crossed nonetheless

I like JMDP, but I don't get all this confidence in him. He flamed out in Sydney against about Baghdatis, and was beaten pretty handily by Olderer. He might have some big upsets, but I don't see the consistency to finish ahead of people like Ferrer and Berdych.

I think Delpo will need a BIG result to end nr 5. To be true even Ferrer has a bigger chance imo to be ahead of Delpo. Simply because he gets many more free points from Clay and all the slow conditions together with his better Draws, this guy gets amazing draws and is shit consistent and more Fit then young Delpo.

Del Potro, I'm sure. And I believe that he will have best form at Roland Garros 2012 if stay healthy.

Berdych has looked great so far this year. I think he's heading for a good season.

I'm less sure about Del Potro but I think he will climb into the top8 and put pressure on the guys above. I could see him battling with Tsonga around #6-#7

I think Ferrer will fall down this year even if he's mr consistent. He is also mr no-weapons and if the big hitters find their groove and top4 stays in theirs then he will fall down to 7 or lower.

Fish won't end the season in the top8 again.

Soderling will hopefully be back for Indian Wells/Miami but because of his new bad seeding and all the time away it's not expected that he will do that much damage the first half of the season. He could enter a state of ass-kicking in the later parts though and he doesn't defend much. That means good chances to make one of the biggest ranking climbs of the top guys but honestly no-one knows what shape he will be in.

But yeah right now I'm split between Berdych and Del Potro but from what I've seen so far Berdych will finish higher. Berdych was actually very consistent last year in reaching QFs in Masters but didn't have that extra gear. This year it seems like he might have that extra gear to grab the bigger points

Something seemed to click with Berdych after the US Open last year really. Beijing win and then a SF in London and in Paris with a great start to this year, wonder what it was.

I'm not sure anything clicked. Maybe you're just trying to see good results. Don't you remember how upset and critical you were after his choke vs Djokovic at WTF. He advanced to the SF by beating Ferrer and Tipsaravic in really tight matches...really not that big of a deal, but at least he overcame that H2H vs Tipsy. Still some inconsistent results in that time period if you ask me, with losses to Nishikori and Lopez. His biggest wins in that time span were a win against Tsonga at Beijing and Murray at Paris Masters.

If anything clicked, it had to be mental. Berdych losses so many matched by lossing the mental battles, not physical battles. He's one of the cleaner ball strikers on tour and he has okay movement for a big guy. I don't think he'll get to #5 by the end of the year...his mental strength will be exposed, as always.

Berdych was really impressive lately. He seems the best vote here.

I'm not sure about Clownga. I don't see Ferrer up there.
But who knows, it's a long season and maybe we'll have a surprising No.5 (if the top4 remain there). ;)

The cynic in me says this thread would most probably not have been started had Berdych not won Montpellier yesterday :o

Nonetheless he is my safest bet for a top 5 finish ;) Hopefully he steps it up at the slams. Not too many years left for him to realise his potential :scared:

Watched both those matches and both Lopez and Nishikori played out of their minds, probably their best match in the last year, yes including Nishikori, who played much better than against Djokovic in the same tournament. However, he should've clinched that Nishikori match in Basel.

I think I was reading that he started going back to that sports psychologist that he started on with in 2010.

It really is surprising to see so many votes for Pony. I guess it's possible that Berdych will flake out again badly for several months, but it looks unlikely at the moment. He's much more consistent right now and a much bigger threat to the top 4. I mean, I've said it so much now that I'm sick of hearing myself say it, but he could have had Nadal at the AO if he had gotten his head straight and not blown his BP opportunities with terrible errors. And I think he'd have done a damn sight better against Federer than Delpo managed to.
