Roger's WTF 2011 or Novak's AO 2012 ?

As Weird as the comparison sounds there is some basis. let me explain that

WTF was played on a much faster O2 arena. It was pacier fast indoor tennis that is in retrospect so much different than the run of the mill slow court tennis that happens. Granted that is not a Grand Slam but the results were quite astounding. Nadal bumped out early by Tsonga, Novak went out early, although in Novak's case it was attributed to Burn outs. The tennis was enjoyable too. Skilled tennis was on show, hit the ball on the rise, one or two pefect shots was enough, how much aggresive you are counted than how much strong is your defense and so on. And there were some surprises. Tsonga performing refreshingly well. It poses another question that Are the likes of natural ball strikers like Tsonga,Berdych being shot changed because of much slower courts.

And on comes Novak's AO 2012. The Tennis brutal. One or two winner is not enough. You have to play almost 3or 4 or 5 winners to win a rally. There were plenty of high intense matches where the intensity was never slackened. It was exciting in its own way. But there were some glaring mishaps too. The match of Berdych Nadal typified that. Berydch was hitting in what in any other era would have been a winner but still got defeated by Nadal. Lack of volleying and Over head hitting was another shortcoming. But all in all it captured audience around the world. Some of the people who never watched the game, it certainly caught their imagination.

So what is your Pick Roger's 2011 WTF or Novak's 2012 AO?

Fedtards out in full force today to defend his legacy

I am not a Fed tard in any way. I just want to hear People's opinion.

Quality at the WTFs was a joke, no one really gave a fuck about it.

It seems that whenever credit is given to Federer (in any way possible), it makes you a Fedtard. Sorry mate, but it's the truth.

muahahahahahaha to the thread

You can compare the WTF to Belgrade or Dubai or Basel or Gstaadt or Halle.

GS tournaments are something else

Nole's AO 2012. WTF 2011 does not even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Nole's feat.

Fed didn't beat anyone of note to win the WTF- Nole had to beat Murray to win the AO.

WTF is too late in the season to be relevant. It should be held a month earlier and if they want, they can have smaller tournies after it.

As a display of tennis, WTF no doubt. Fed again taking apart the top guys with real tennis skill...aggressive attacking tennis and deft of touch harmoniously administered. The AO was no doubt of interest in it's reaffirmation of the route the game is continuing to take. No mistake though, finals between these two are hours upon hours of mindless ball bashing...not to mention bouncing, picking and stalling. I will give you that this encounter did have some fascination for me....but I would more call it schadenfreude. As a tennis display - meh. And certainly Nole is capable of better.

Federer beating up on weary players is not even comparable to what Novak did.

alter ego

Wonder how many serbian tards said that in 2008 when Fakervic won it?

WTF is suffering. By the time players get there they are usually on their last legs. It is still a very good event to win but the majors loom large over everything these days. It is sad but true.

The WTF is what the Australian Open USED to be: no one cares about it.

I like how the more likely it seems that Nadull won't ever win WTF, the more that tournament is being discarded. And not being anyone of note. So if don't beat someone from the pusher trio, you haven't beaten anyone of note. Pathetic logic on display. NID from MTF.

 god that tourny opened up hilariously well for him, Fed + Murray in the other group - Simon beating Fed to draw Nole in the SF, and Davy taking care of a tired Murray :p
