Couldn't watch the match. This is so disapointing. After this las weeks I really hope Gil would win this. Must have been a terrible 1st set. In the 2nd he gave a fight, but it wasn't enough  Stil, was a good tournament.

Congrats to Chardy.

Congrats to Chardy.

Fred had an easy overhead smash to extend the match but he missed it. Great fighting by him as always ;). Hope he gets some good wins in the clay-court season just not against Gael :)

As the thread title says, Chardy won this match purely because of his forehand. As usual, it was totally erratic, one minute cool and calculated, the next minute rash. But he found the right strike enough times to pin Gil back and force the error or get a clean winner.

What worries me for Chardy is that he's constantly running round his backhand. To be fair, I'd do the same if I had his practically non-existant revers, but at the same time, his footwork and positioning on his forehand when he runs round the ball is hideous. He won't get anywhere near back to his old ranking unless he works on that side of his game big-time.

As for Gil ... well, he was tidy enough with his court craft, as is always the case. But he lacks power and a real weapon. He scrapped away in the second set but couldn't hit enough winners, and for the first three-quarters of the match, he was always under pressure on serve.

One final note: Gil topped a very easy smash on match point in the breaker. Moved Chardy into the corner but framed it out of the court. Not a pretty way to end the tie.

Can't see Chardy doing much against King Albert on Pics, unless he keeps the error count down.

First set was Chardy effect on Gil. Then, he was more relaxed, going for his shots, and Chardy started to miss a bit more. Quite a fight in the second set. Decided by details. Awful end to the match, though. Still, good tournament for Gil , indeed!

Chardy was unplayable in the first set. Only saw the last moments of the second set and failed smash will haunt Gil forever..

PS: Why the hell Gil always awaits for the opponent to handshake first the umpire? Dunno the reason, but he looks like a douche when he does that.

I'm glad I didn't saw that easy smash missed. I have problems of anger management, but I really love my computer

I wonder why Chardy isn't with every other frenchie in Montpellier.

Perhaps he rather fancies his chances over here in VDM?
I can surely understand why... ;)

Well done Jeremy :). He's pretty competitive on clay.

After watching a few of their matches I must say Gil´s inability of handling Chardy´s serve is laughable

Chardy must have hit over 80% forehands in this match. If you can't get to his backhand, you are in trouble.

In my opinion clay is the best surface of Jeremy. He's making SF here with an easy draw though, I think he made the good choice. He need points and confidence. Considering the draw and the surface he wouldn't have made the SF at Montpellier.

Owned. I wanted to write something in that direction as well, like "he who only talks about two mediocre players, who by the way come from Portugal, which appears to be the reason why he is a fan rather than because they're great tennis players."

Woops now I did write it.

What a bunch of idiots. So he should support great players, because they win, right? Not everyone is a gloryhunter like yourselfs, folks.

And i thinks that´s quite sad. I pity you.

This is really good for Chardy, he's one of my faves and really did get screwed with all that shit regarding his former coach. Just hoping this is the start or something again. :)
