Anyone still hurting?

I was absolutely gutted last night, was rooting for Nadal so bad. It's the most devastated I've ever felt after a match. I had to turn off at the exact moment Djokovic won, and will avoid the news for the next couple of days in an attempt to block it out of my mind.

To be completely honest - i'm really not that gutted and i've been that way after Nadals speech.

I've felt far worse - wimbledon 2011 particular and the limp out vs Ferrer at the 2011 AO hurt because i truly believed Rafa would win those events.

When Rafa lost the third set and looked like he was going to get bagaled in the fourth last night i felt awful watching it, i knew i couldn't watch the match point.

But then he reminded me why i've supported him since i first saw him in the 2004 AO in person - the day a 17 year old teenager playing against my countries hero won me over to support him for life. He is a fighter. A competitor. A champion.

I never expected Nadal to win this tournament, SF i thought would be a great 2012 start. And when he made the final i knew he had a chance against Nole, but not a great one - because i knew how hard peak Nadal was to beat in 5 sets and now Nole is at his peak and is every bit the champion Nadal is.

So i'm not dissapointed, but incredibly proud of Rafa. No one would have expected the fight he gave last night in the 4th and 5th. And i'm proud of Djokovic.

Whilst tennis fans will debate whether it was a good match my facebook page was filled with neutral fan tributes to the players and match at 1.30am - that's great for the sport i've loved ever since i saw Pete Sampras win his first Major.

I'm so damn proud of both players.

Nothing to feel sorry for ,,nadull getting a taste of his own medicine.
A player trolling his bh & using tactics that he usesto gain an advantage.
In other word nadull has met his match,,thats what makes tennis interesting.

Actually I thought this was nadal's besst shot to end his losing streak giving nole's condition after the 5 hour match plus he's dealing with some leg issues. Regardless, I thought nadal if he made it a long and grueling match would have the big edge. Boy was I wrong. Novak showed alot and actually should have close this out in 4 to be honest and if he hadn't been pushed by murray I believe it would have been easier that it was.

There is no where to goo against nole.

On anotheer note. This is how i see fed winning a slam. Getting the number 2 ranking by wimbledon or us open. Nole and rafa put in same half and kill each other and rog wins the title. I really see that happening if rog gets number 2. He's 2500 from nadal but should win rotterdam and dubai which will put him closer.

It feels so good when Novak wins, wins against a warrior in rafa who never gives up, wins against the crowd, who mainly support Rafa ( just like at US and wimbeldon) and its not just that they support rafa, but they cheer him when Nole makes UE, and when he makes some amazing winner, the crowd are silenced. And the crowd is always against him from the semi until he wins it. Even the umpires and linesmen where against Nole the whole fucking match and despite all that, he rises and wins. It feels so good that he silenced the whole crowd numerous times. So fucking good...:-) All that just makes it a bit more sweet:-)

don't agree, rafa did not hurt roger's confidence as much as nole did to him. he did not get beaten for 7 consecutive times and to the extreme, giving him 3 consecutive runner up plates in grand slams, the losses that were hard to swallow

seriously, not that i am biased towards rafa, but i don't agree with this "Fed fans have experienced this far more time" stuff? After all, he has won enough, jesus, 16 slams and 70 titles?! No one can break his records. I admit that rafa is not bad with 10 slams, but that cannot be compared with Roger's. So why to feel sad??

I meant watching your favourite lose an epic contest like this, after giving scent of victory. It hurts a lot more than the easy victories make you happy. You do realise that Rafa has an uneven share of epic wins to losses? Yes, Federer has won a ton of titles, its crazy yet he is that great champion whose losses are more famous that his wins. Davis Cup SF '03, Wimbledon 2008 and 2011, Masters Cup 2005, AO SF 2005, Rome 2006, AO 09 Final, USO 09 Final, US '10 AND '11 SF. Trust me, as a Federer fan, I have watched a lot more heartbreaking defeats than Nadal fans perhaps ever will.

Inspite of everything however, I am a happy Federer supporter. The man has been so much pure joy to watch and I wouldnt trade it for anything. :)

So more than a Nadal fan, I'm a TENNIS fan, And yesterday, tennis was the big winner, so i'm not only not hurted, but I'm very very happy. I just want to see in nextr years another match with this level os epicness.

01-30-2012, 02:28 PM
nah, it's not much of a big deal. If you asked ten people on the street 9 out of ten wouldn't know who won and half of them wouldn't know what the Australian Open is. You'd have to go into a specific address on the world wide wed, to a form of electronic message board and then browse through all these topics to find virtual individuals who are sharing a common admiration for this marginalized sport. Then you'd think from all the reactions there that the end of the world is nigh but no...in reality it was just a ballgame.

Other than that, lets see if Djokovic will be capable of doing something that neither Nadal nor Federer did or will ever do: win the grand slam of slams. Then I might be converted.

Oh yeah and the Rafaturds were venting their frustration for the loss on the player who was not even participating in the final. It's a natural yet spasmodic reaction to the fact that their favourite athlete has become a whipping boy. If you can't beat them join them.

But in truth a very small margin of the population would care about tennis, and of those the majority are well-off spoiled brats with not a worry in the world.

I will receive a lot of negs for this comment but it's worth it. It's funny how even in defeat the Rafitards try to make it out that their idol is more pitiful than others. I don't know if this is more pathetic or the fact that the idiotic journalists seem to buy the story of the more wounded warrior.

The Rafitards in this thread seem to be saying Nadull has not hurt Fed enough. Really now? I do wish Djokovic beats him at least 27 times in a row so your posts become true. Nadull has taken 6, THAT IS SIX, major titles away from Fed and at least half of them Rog should have won. Moreover, it was through using dirty tactics and on-court coaching. I can't get enough of Nadull being beaten as justice may come late but it comes it does.

Didn't look like that during the ceremony. Roger looked much worse after the infamous final there and yet, instead of retiring, got his long-desired RG trophy, plus not less-desired record of 16 afterwards. What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. Isn't that a motto of Federer's fans?

The only reason Roger got that trophy was because Nadal was not in the final. haha. :) No. He won't retire. But I don't think we will see 3 more Nole Rafa finals this year. I think Murray and others may beat one of these guys. Let's face it. Novak still has to win the French. Grass is not his best surface and very unpredictable. I think Nole wins the U.S Open. I am fine with Murray taking a slam, he deserves it. I'd be more than happy if Delpo is back to his best form too. What I meant was Rafa looked much worse at AO11 and yet, he still made 3 GS finals, so, I am looking forward to the new season.

In fact, I agree with those posters here who said-- the result of the final hurt us but the match itself gave us reasons to be optimistic.

That was against the player he believes is GOAT and who he thinks should beat him when playing at his best. That is not true for Djoko. Plus RN is not so young any more. I (sadly) would also not discount this season as over for him yet though.

In the beginning especially in 2008, I used to get upset whenever Federer lost. But that has now evolved to anger from seeing his mental game collapse so easily to acceptance of reality. Same feeling after his semis loss against Rafa. Fed has prepared us well for his downfall ;).
