Which would be your favorite upset pick of the 2012 Australian Open?
I'm deliberately suggesting 2 reasonable upsets vs each of the top 4 players, for a total of 8 in the poll.
You can only pick one.

Tipsarevic Tramples Djokovic
Ferrer Flattens Djokovic

Monfils Mashes Murray
Tsonga Thrashes Murray

Del Potro Dispatches Federer
Dolgopolov Drubs Federer

Isner Nails Nadal
Berdych Bombs Nadal

Isner nailing Nadal would be so great :worship:

1st of all I like Isner, 2nd I dislike Nadal and 3rd I couldn't wait to see him being bitter a la Verdasco in the press conference after the match :haha:

Dolgo beating Fed... Unfortunately, I don't see it happening.

You screwed it all up with that 'Isner nails Nadal' option.

Birdshit manning up against Nadal for the first time in 6 years would be nice. Recent signs are he's getting there though, finally took a set in 5 years last year in Miami.

Monfils Mashing Murray would be nice. The Monfils Haters and Murray Faithful all going crazy at the same time, would be awesome.

Most realistic is Tsonga beating Murray because he always plays to win. Murray always plays not to lose.

Isner Irradicates Nadal does that work?

Monfils, Tsonga, or Isner seem the most likely, I think.

I read it at first as irradiates :-) Was thinking a nuclear attack on the opponent was somewhat harsh, although unlikely to be specifically forbidden in the rulebook.

Isner irradiates Nadal.

:o Admittedly reversed the alliteration on that one. :) I should have just used Isner Eliminates Nadal since with alliteration, only the beginning only has to sound the same, not be spelled the same... Unfortunately one cannot edit a poll. Maybe a moderator will be kind enough to do so. ;)

IMO Isner defeating Nadal would be most deserving after being pretty close at the French.

Gotta say Isner beating Nadal. He's already one of my faves, he was so close at the French.

How much am I laughing upon realizing that Dolgopolov is more reasonable than Fish?

You really think so? Despite H2H 5-1 to Murray, having won the last 4 encounters?

probably relevant to Isner tbh considering those bombs he's dropping every time he serves ;)

None of these will happen. But Tsonga and Murray, could face, neither choke. And if Tsonga does defeat him, its not really an upset. He'd KO'd him before.

ermmm... that would be funny if olderer had actually said that he felt his back cracking and that he didn't know if he'd play the first round match one day prior to the match

Of course it would be an upset, but a small one.
Murray is ranked and seeded 4th, Tsonga 6th.
Their tour level head-to-head is in favor of Murray 5-1, though Tsonga's lone win came at this tournament.

That said, Tsonga beating Murray would not be a surprise.

Now IF (can't happen in this one...) Mr. Murray and Mr. Tsonga were playing for all the marbles in any non-clay Major Final, who would you favor?

My fav in terms of preference is by far Ferrer > Djokovic. I would be over the moon if that happened.

In terms of likelihood definitely Tsonga > Murray.
