Seemed to be serving all right, but I caught only the last few games.

A good match in the end. Typical first rounder by Roger against the guy he had to Google to find out more about!
Epic serving, some JesusFed and some muggy returns, some amazing groundies alongside some retarded Shanks. Yep, thats Roger on court :)

He will improve with the matches. Importantly for me, his back looked ok, he was bending it fine and serving good.

Kudry played well, much better than his ranking suggests. So props to him too....:)
Congrats Rog, 1 down, 6 to go :rocker2:

PS: Smoking tweener in the end :D

not too bad match, did look disinterested at times (typical Fed), will amp up the pace on the groundies once he faces the top seeds

Good match overall by Fed. Loss of concentration and focus sometimes most worrying thing

Good opening match. Lasted as long as Roger needed it to last.
Disgustingly slow courts, it seems that someone somewhere thinks that 'slow is good'...

From Roger's presser:

Then after that I got injured. So everything was a bit on a relaxeder [sic] mode maybe, or then trying to come through with injury or the matches were too easy, you know.

Relaxerer has been reading MTF

The courts are so slow. RA was better.

Fed seemed a bit disinterested from what I saw and moved sluggishly at times. Take away Feds serve and Kudryavstev was the better player for large portions of the match.
Well typical 1 rounder for Roger. This doesn´t tell us anything and I expect him to improve.

That in mind Fed should be worried and the amount of winners a player of Kudryavstevs caliber managed to put past him.:o

Fed needs to move better but I think he will once it will be required.:)

The courts are so slow. RA was better.

It seemed to me that the balls fluffed up more than usual after 4-5 games and slowed play down more. The court is probably relatively gritty. Look for that to improve over the next 2 weeks as the courts get more play.

Respectfully,

That was awesome :worship:

Good match for Roger, I like that he dosen't play his absolutt best in the first match and rather play himself into form as the tournament goes. Last year he did it the opposite way :(

Didn't see all of the match as I nodded off on the couch halfway Rafa's match, but this is pretty consistent with what I saw myself.
Great serving (that's always nice to see when a player returns from a back injury problem), but quite a bunch of sloppy returns as well, indeed caused by sluggish moving.

Typical 1st round match against an 'unknown player' for Roger.
Very nice post-match interview btw. :hearts:

Good game from Kudravsteyv, who played his first grand slam match @ a grand slam @ rod laver arena against the king, but still made the first set close...his game intrigued me

I really liked Roger today, he showed a good tennis (maybe too errors on return, but nothing heavy btw), but he has still to improve if he wants to add another trophy :yeah:

Kudryavtsev on the other side  Nothing impressive, he never gave me the idea to be fit enough to have a better career, but I'd be glad to see him proving I am wrong :yeah:

When did he say it was slow? I just watched the replay of the match and he did not say anything at all about court speed to Courier.

Olderer was awful, nothing but serve, getting bossed around by a 183th player in the world from the baseline :superlol:, in the end resorting to grinding and waiting for UE, if the Russian actually had a serve, he could easily push it to 4 or even 5. Some of the errors Olderer made were comedy, especially at the net.

Olderer was actually pretty good considering he hasn't had a proper preparation (back), but yes, he made a couple of LOL net errors.
