Australian Open: The Drama Slam?

With Nadal whining once again and taking shots at Federer, Djokovic taking digs at Federer as well, and the whole Tomic bandwagoning and talking shit vs. Verdasco, Bogo talking strike, etc.

Is the AO the drama slam? And if so, do you enjoy this kind of mentality as opposed to for instance the mentality at Wimbledon?

The Djokovic/Federer and Tomic/Verdasco thing is good because it's about tennis on the court and backing up your words on the court. The Nadal thing is bad because it's political off-court stuff that takes away from our enjoyment of the matches themselves.

I'm waiting for the Murray v Nadal final where Mr Lendl orders Andy to kick Rafa's neatly arranged water bottles at the first changeover. The two square up, Rafa goes for a cry then we witness a marathon 5 set epic with the highlander victorious.

It was only a few decades ago that the Aussie Open had no merit with players and fans.. and here we are now, fucking loving the drama slam.

Djokovic taking digs at Federer

bollocks.

theres little drama, if anything. it's just that you in particular and MTF in general like to dramatize things.

As the alter ego of the stiff arse brits, their auzzie cousins offer a great cathartic experience for all of us: hooliganism, loud crowds, ethnic brawls etc...this is sparta! Whoah yeahhhhh!

Tennis Australia to instal a new rule during the AO! It is going to be called "Hockey rules": during a match players will be able to set any personal scores they have against each other by letting go off their racquets and having a go at each other.

Good times ahead!

Actually, Men's side of AO does not give that much drama. Miss the late 90s to early 00s when women's tennis drama was at the peak with Hingis, Capriati, Davenport, Kournikova, and the Williamses.

Do you miss drama between players?
I do. Remember the times at the turn of the century when Hingis, Capriati, Davenport, Kournikova, and the Williams sisters trash talked each other. What was even better was this translated in great matches. Animosity = better matches. Who can forget those iconic Williams - Hingis or Williams - Davenport matches? Or Kournikova - Hingis?

Was there ever anything like this in the men's circuit?
Do you miss the drama. We might get some this year with all the Federer-Djokovic/Nadal drama

Feel free to discuss men and women drama occurences

It's good up until it passes a certain point.

Currently though it would be nice to have a little more of it.

Haha, just like seinfeld where the family airs their grievances during festivus.

Lets rank the players most likely to manhandle the rest of the ATP:

1) Tsonga
2) Soderling
3) Nadal
4) Berdych
5) James "big ass" blake
6) Murray

Fairy dust players on receiving end:

1) Simon
2) Dolgopolov
3) Federer
4) Gasquet
5) Ferrer
6) Belluci

I think Ferrer could pretty much kick most guys ass. More than Nadal. Nadal's muscles are overrated IMO. Somehow I don't see him as the guy who would be beating other players up- other than Roger, I mean ...

The guy I would probably fear the most is Soderling. He does look like the kind of guy that would go medieval on a fight!

My rank is:

The manhandlers:

1) Soderling
2) Tsonga
3) Youznhy (the guy is crazy)
4) Berdych
5) Dimitrov

The manhandleds:

1) Dolgopolov
2) Simon
3) Federer
4)Gasquet
5) Bellucci

If Federer has ever said anything about Djokovic that wasn't a back-handed compliment or an outright insult, I haven't heard it.
