Tomic wins Kooyong and throws shade at Verdasco

Bernard Tomic is working hard to make a lot of people, myself included, eat their words. The latest scalp the young Australian has claimed is that of world number 8 Mardy Fish whom he beat 6-4 3-6 7-5.

Itís an understatement to say Fish will not be impressed, particularly after what happened at the Hopman Cup with Dimitrov and his reaction behind the scenes, but Tomic is delighted.

Tomicís run of good form will take him into the Australian Open as the heavy favourite against hard hitting Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in the first round. If Verdasco was at his peak he would teach Bernard a thing or two about incredible shot making but sadly we havenít seen that form from Fernando since 2009.

Iím not the only one backing Tomic in that first round match Ė Tomic is not so subtle about what he thinks the outcome will be, freely burning Verdasco by saying heís not a big threat.

ďIt was good that all three matches were three sets and I got a good workout and got my confidence up by playing well,.

I think I need to come out and be aggressive, like the way I was playing in the first few matches here at Kooyong.

If I play like that to his (Verdasco) backhand corner, he canít really hurt me. Itís a good thing Iíve played him before, in Brisbane when he made that run to the semis.

I managed to get up 2-love and 40-15 and he beat me 6-4 6-2. I learnt from that. Heís a tough first round, but itís a winnable match for me. Itís not one of those big names, like a big seed.Ē

How come the last two good Aussie (if you can count the brat as good) have had nothing to do with what is traditionally considered to be the Australian level-headedness and humility such as what McNamara has tried to (not sure if he succeeded) in Dimitrov and what Laver and Roche have demonstrated along with other greats from the same country. They're like polar opposite to the past Australian greats. Hewitt was okay after he started receiving the RF treatment but before that he was still unbearable.

Oh my jeesus. Kooyang is an exo! Maybe Mardy was earnestly trying because of his thrashing by Dimitrov, but Berdych and Monfils were all smiles, as if they were just paid a bunch of money to have fun on court. Which is what actually what happened. Like, the last time he played a real match he got thrashed off court. Apparently that didn't get through to him.
He wears smugness as a coat of armor.

You are right. And even if he said he felt like he could beat Roger, Rafa and Nole. So what?! For a long time people complained that players were acting a bit too tamed.

It seems that the generation after the Fedal's duopoly will bring back the Sampragassi ( at myself) spirit. Competitive on and off the court.

To be fair to Bernard, he did pay Verdasco some respect by saying:

this is true. <3 Nadal but his humble words before matches are not very genuine. haha ironically he has the 12-0 record against VErdasco, yet Nadal would probably say he expects a hard match where he is not the favorite if he faced him.

at the same time Tomic does not have the great H2H with Verdasco so it's remarkable that he talking with so much confidence. if he ends up backing it up then great, but Tomic (in my opinion) has to get a little bit better before he talks the smack.

Tomic is being a bit rash and Nadal is blatantly saying what sounds good instead of being honest, so both deserve negative critique

Tomic in 5, last set 12-10, and tomic yelling "COME ON, SPANIARD MONKEY" in every point with a 10+ rally shot.
When he finally manages to win the match he screams a powerful "AAAAAWWWWW YEAAAAAAAAA, BITCH", he recieved a warning and had to pay 20.000 US$ for that.

When he's arriving to shake Fernando's hand, he took his hand and put it in his own australian underwear, before saying "How does it feel, honey?". The umpire refuses to shake Verdasco's hand after knowing what he touched with it.

Tomic then got punched by Verdasco and Fernando recieves a 4-month period outside the courts. He returns after RG and his 1R in Wimbledon is vs Tomic...

Time will tell.

More gems from Tomic:

Fresh off his exhibition tournament win at the AAMI Classic on Saturday, Australian Bernard Tomic told media that heís ďready to go.Ē His first round opponent on Monday will be the No. 22 seed Fernando Verdasco.
ďHave a good preparation, good confidence over the last few weeks,Ē said Tomic. ďI think itís going to be an exciting match tomorrow.ď The key to beating the Spaniard? ďJust got to be more attacking. I think Iíve done that well the last few weeks. Even in Kooyong and Brisbane, Iíve been a bit more attacking. To beat the top guys, you need to step up. You canít play outside 50 tennis.

ďI have a good chance, the way Iím playing, to beat him. He beat me once in Brisbane I think when I was 16 up there. That was when he was on his run, playing well. I think, you know, the last six months he hasnít really done much. I think itís a good time to play him.Ē

That's probably all true but he should have a bit more respect for a former top 10 player at this stage in his career...

I mean COME ON:o, yes Verdasco would sometimes be a pain in the ass as well with his comments but i have never EVER seen a guy who not only did he said that Nando is not a threat but to say such ridiculous things about him is jus what is pissing me off, basically he has never played against the in-formed Nando:lol:, im sure his comments will bite him in the ass one day, but anyways........THE FUCK:spit:

Nando highlight didnt start at the aussie open(semi) and then U.S. open{quarters), it all started at the Davis cup final vs. Argentina. Some people in MTF i swear needs to read tennis these days, and yes Nando WAS a former top 10 player and he was dangerous. Even Fed in two to three matches in 2009 was struggling against Nando, he lost a set against Nando even those times they met that year. So all i have to say is good luck to the both of them and hopefully this wont turn into more drama.........well no its gonna be drama even before the match starts:facepalm:

excuse me, who the fuck are you and why should i care?

Brentos

:haha: Yeah because Tsonga has won something like 3 of his last 8 tour events while making the final in 2 of the others, whereas Tomic is just an overrated clown who just made his first tour SF last week only to get destroyed by Murray. :worship: Deluded clown!

Oh and for you information it's "Learn your tennis" not "Learn you're tennis". How old are you?

Tomic won kooyong. Exhibition or not. He beat 3 top 10 players in 3 sets. Tsonga lost to melzer and nishikori. If you actually had the decency to watch Tsonga in Brisbane you would realize he wasn't impressive in Doha. At all. Unlike you i have been at the grounds the past few days watching them train, so i have a better idea of where their level is at.

So please Learn you're tennis, next time you decide to question me. I'm 26. How old are you? Vikram

It's always a thrill to watch the emergence of an exciting new ACC talent. This dude is clearly the Tomic of MTF.

Exhibition :haha: If I had the decency to watch Tsonga in Brisbane? :stupid: Not impressive in Doha? The last set and a half against Monfils was unreal, he started the week slowly but it's not like that matters now either. Oh, so now you can tell a player's level just from watching them train?

Nadal: 'It's going to be a tough match and I will have to play my best.' MTF: 'Outrage, what a phoney this humbalito'
Tomic: 'It's a winnable match for me.' MTF: 'Outrage, what an arrogant brat'

when rafa's was ranked number 1 in the world and won RG for the billionth time only to say "i'n not the favourite for roland garros, no" that's fucking phoney humble shit!

He's right about what he said. Nando is not a big name anymore and hasn't played well in a long time, while Bernard has. He even acknowledged he's tough draw for a first round opponent, as Verdaco's best tennis is extremely dangerous.

I like both these players alot. But lets get one thing straight Nando is no angel either. How about Nice 2010 when he cursed at the whole French crowd or what he said to Raonic early last year. Tomic actually wants to be at the top of the sport. It seems to me Nando is only interested in being on a cover of a magazine.

its funny that the oppinion of seemingly everybody on this board is that when someone doesnt like someone else the reason is jealousy

she has nothing for me to be jealous of, im happy with the way i look. and he definately doesnt have anything for me to be jealous of. Its my simple oppinion that she's not attractive..and no she's clearly not my type since she isnt a lesbian

Here name's Donay Meijer and all the press have been assuming she's his gf that I've seen .... saw one quote "While the pair posed happily, Tomic's father and coach, John, whisked Meijer away before she could finish giving her name to the media, saying ''You don't have to speak to them''."
