I don't want to disrespect Julien's fans, but when a guy that can't win a single rally, with 5 shots or more long, loses a match, tennis is always a winner. I mean he as an awesome S&V, bet he is cluess on the rest of his game. I didn't watch any match of him, this week, but I can't stop myself how this guy did to the final.

Congrats to Jarkko for the win :worship:

Unfortunatelly Benneteau couldn't get his first title not even this time and I don't know if he'll get a better chance ever
Congrats to Jarkko for improving on his finals record

Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

So happy! Jarkko :worship:.

Benneteau was bad in the first set despite breaking Jarkko's opening service game. He improved in the second set, only to choke the final game. He did save one MP at 4*-5 though with a gutsy forehand.

Now: Any streams for the doubles ?

Benneteau miss another chance to win his first title. Too bad, it was probably his best chance, and one of the last if none the last.

Very happy too see Nieminem clinch it though. When was the last time a qualifier won a title? Stak at St Petersburg 2009?

I suppose someone is just learning how to count. It goes 1, 2, 3. Not 1, 2, 9.

I know, what I mean.

You should know that Murray is 0/3 in finals, and unfortunately 0/9 in sets...

good point ^^^.... it is a relatively famous and well talked about stat, Murray's failure to win any sets in slam finals so Orka is right, the 0/9 is sort of implied if not easily understood with a little thought

this is really too bad for Benneteau! what four years in a row now of finals but no titles =/ of course he could still win one this year!

Nieminen cheers to improving your title win/loss and i really hope you make an impact more this year than you have recently!!! you got the game just get your head back into it

Ok, I open my thread about this match first, but since everyone is replying only to this one, I will put my opinion here:

I mean he has an awesome S&V, but he is awuful on the rest of his game. I didn't watch any match of him, this week, but I can't stop thinking myself how this guy did to the final.

Woo & hoo! I thought that the delay would work to Nieminen's advantage as Julien was prolly pretty nervous, and it did. Jarkko had an easy draw here, but everything counts!

people some times are too hard on andy

he was the underdog in all of the GS finals in which he has participated so far so it is not surprising he hasn't won one. still, i guess he should have won some sets but what are sets for if you don't get the win at the end? a five set loss is still a loss.

yee, you are right. Nieminen is the first qualifier to win an ATP World Tour title since Sergiy Stakhovsky at St. Petersburg crown in 2009. Also Stakho won in Zagreb, 2008 as a LL...

Good job, Jarkko!

Gah, I feel a bit for Benny tbh...good chance to claim his first title, and possibly his last realistic chance as others suggest. Seems like maybe the occasion got to him again, which perhaps isn't surprising considering his tendency to tighten up.

Congrats to Niemo on ending his title drought, and improving on that terrible finals ratio. :tape:

Great win for Jarkko, and well deserved! He´s been getting a lot of crap about his finals ratio, but actually he´s lost mostly to players that were simply better than him. Good stuff!!

As a Finn, I was naturally very happy for Jarkko. Considering the number of finals he had played, he really deserved to be more than one title man. Maybe this title makes him play more relaxed in final in the future.

Yet, I felt a bit sad for Julien, he would really deserve to win an ATP title. But today Jarkko played better, so he deserved the title.

Such fantastic way for Jarrko to start 2012 winning his 2nd ATP title coming from the quallies. 2nd title arriving at 30 years old. Well done for him :yeah:.

The same for Benneteau who had a fantastic week beating players better than him like Feliciano and Marcos. I hope this performance can help him to gain the confidence enough to understand that he can clinch his first ATP title in 2012.

Poor Benneteau - one time he gets fairly low-ranked opponent, and it's a guy who owns him. Plus, the rain delay probably hurt him more than Jarkko.
