Tobasco will be happy if he gets one set here. I think if Tomic could choose which one of the seeds he wanted to play, Nando would be in his top 3, for sure.

I'm glad that I don't make part of the bandwagon. Since he's 17 that I'm supporting Tomic and saying that he will be by far the best of his generation and a multiple slam winner in the future, so my bandwagon has almost 3 years, and it's not stopping not matter what he does in this tournament...

Tomic will show Verdasco how real tennis is played.

ahhahhah this.... let's be honest, Verdasco is a headcase and this is the exact kind of match he is destined to lose.

he probably is more talented than Tomic, hell Verdasco is more talented than practically all players, but he just can't really get past the mental barriers. he'll go in expecting to win and as soon as things get close, in his head he will get frustrated because he is 'too good to be struggling against a player like Tomic'...

vErdasco's enemy is himself and I think it's pretty unlikely he wins this match...

of course Fernando of 2009 could pop up and surprise us

come on when Verdasco is on his game he is an awesome player and there is no doubt that he has some incredible talent. great groundstrokes, great serve, etc ,etc. people just get too focused on his often up and down wild form where he sprays errors and winners randomly.

but there's no denying if Verdasco had just channeled his talent at the right times he would have succeeded much more. some players work hard with limited talent and some are the opposite. Verdasco is the opposite. lots of talent but a mental midget, too angry when things don't go his way

Tomic in 3. I don't understand people who think Verdasco has a chance. Tomic is in top form. He will have the home crowd cheering for him and he beat Lopez last year when he was 210 on the rankings and was 18 years old. Though Nadal wasn't 100% last year, Tomic gave him a run for his money. Verdasco will fight hard, but this will be a Raonic-like beating (this time from the back). Verdasco has no answer for Tomic's flat, precise groundstrokes. Will be easier than most of you think. I think Dolgopolov is the first real threat for Tomic. We'll see anyway, this post sounds like a hype though.

Well i agree with most of this post, except i dont think Fer is getting so much hype i think its the other way around tbh. Ever since last year people were having so much hype on both Raonic and Tomic and they were basically putting them at the top of the list to win slams this year. Yes both are very good and talented players but im sorry my friend i think Tomic had much more hype than Fer ever did.

I have developed a scary trust in Tomic. He's been hitting his ground strokes really consistently start of this year and his movement has improved a lot.

Anyway like ossie said I would really like to see Tomic play the top guys. Because ever since I first saw Tomic in AO 3 years ago, it was funny how he was expected to lose his match and yet still won pretty convincingly by just outsmarting the opponent. He was arrogant about it too, but in a good way because it was justified which was so impressive. Anyways he's improved leaps and bounds since 2009. Tomic in 3 or 4.

If you were Verdasco, wouldn't you want the women, clothes, cars, and good food? Sounds like a lot more fun than grinding away at tennis 8 hours a day.

That's what separates great athletes from good athletes.

It's not really about what Verdasco wants to do. He won't have any answer for Tomic's game. Even Murray had a tough time figuring out Tomic before playing routine. This time big stage, big crowd, all on Tomic's side. Straight sets loss for the spaniard.

BroTree123

Seriously though... an absolute new low for Nando if he doesn't even win a single set here, let alone win the match. If a mug like Cilic can derail Tomic 6-1 6-0 6-2 in the US Open (I know it was like a fair while ago...but still..), surely Nando has a chance to win. Plus, I wanna see Nando vs Dolgy in 3R.

Sham Kay

Tomic will be handed out beatdowns to Nando in the future.

Right now though this is a toss up.. I'd like to think Bernie can take him down even at this point, despite their relatively huge difference in experience.

Here's what Tomic said of his first round match with Verdasco:

"There's only three or four guys on tour who can play all day and he's one of them.

"I'll need to come out, be aggressive and be fast like the first few matches I was playing at Kooyong and if I play like that and to his backhand corner deep I think he can't really hurt me."
