:woohoo: What a comeback by the choking Silverfish! I really thought he was a goner after that nightmare first set (a bagel in 16 minutes? yuck :banghead: ) but Mardy came back from the dead and finally lifted his game when he needed to. Awesome! :yeah: See Mardy? YOU CAN DO IT. Keep the focus. :D :D now don't go crashing out in the second round, k?

Why do people put Mardy down, I mean he has lost matches in the past that he should not have lost, but I still believe that his time is coming. I think that he will eventually become a top level player and reach his potential. Even if he does lose the second round tomorrow, it still will make me stick with him cos he is still a really good player. If you look at some players who are not as good as some of the top players, you know that they will never reach top ten because they just simply are not or I should say will never be as good as the others. Not everyone can be as good as everyone but I believe that Mardy is good enough to be up there. Even if he does choke at times, he is learning each time he fails to succeed.

i gotta agree withyou rue! if i wasn't rep banned i'd rep you for that!

i think people are overly harsh on mardy! especially the americans i don't mean it in a bad way i just think ALOT is expected from the US players and sometimes people are overly harsh! and i agree every mistake he makes he learns a bit more, and he is still improving some of his returns of serev today were amazing, and you gotta give him ALOT of credit coz even after being bageled his head never dropped. i love the guy and like you will support him even if he does go out in round 2, buti don't think he will go out in round 2. I'm backing mardy to get quite far in this.. (i know i've just given him the kiss of death now) keep it up fishy wishy :)

Well rue, I think we put mardy down for the same reasons you mentioned. We know he's talented enough and we know he has the potential, so we get frustrated when we hear that he cuts out of Saddlebrook on the off-season, that he's way out of shape, that he's so mentally fragile. If we didn't think he had the potential to be better and post better results than he has thusfar, we wouldn't get on him so much about it :)

I've been making that excuse for him since 2002 :D He's had some very good wins in his career but they've been few and far between, he blows hot and cold like no one else on the tour. His time may be coming but meanwhile my patience with him is wearing thin.
He may have potential but like bunk said he's mentally frail, physically unfit and untill he works on those departments simply having potential isnt going to do him any good.

Mario! :retard:!

Mario  :o so inconsisent

Don't be so surprised that Fish only won 3 points in the first set since hes also very inconsisent still trying to work out how he lost to a out-of-fuel Massu at the olympics

So this is the man whom Patrick McEnroe is counting on to put up a sterling effort as second singles player for the U.S., against Moya and Ferrero on clay over five sets. Courageous. It says much more for Ancic's weaknesses than for Fish's mental strength that he came back and won the match - when Super Mario had to face an opponent who was putting more than two balls in play (which Fish singularly failed to do in the first set), he suddenly had no idea what to do and lost serve early in both the second and third sets. For someone who had a longer streak of service holds than Roddick last year, Fish does dump his serve with amazing ease and alarming frequency from match to match. At least Nalbandian has the excuse that his game isn't centred around the serve anyway.
