Will Monfis make a slam final?

What do you think?

At his highest level he seems every bit as good as Baghdatis/Gonzalez/Berdych.

Do you think he could make a slam final if he kept up his high level of play?

Also, before calls of Mugfis come out, remember this;

He has made a slam semi

He has beaten Federer and Nadal with some consistency in his career. Well, hes beaten them both.

Guys like Berdych who made a slam final have been roasted by Nadal in recent years. Birdy had a win or two against Roger but its been domination there too.

Monfills can beat the biggest players. I couldnt see him winning a final but I could see him making one. Hed be a one final wonder though.

"if he kept up his high level of play" - then yes, obviously. This goes for a lot of players.

The problem with Monfils is that he doesn't keep it up...can't see him going past QF at this point really, but we'll see how he does this year. He made some strides towards the end of last year, I thought.

He'll definitely win one... probably Roland Garros.

Monfils probably became more aggressive but just against counter punchers, moonballers, etc... against aggressive players he is still a way to passive and plays like before against this sort of players . really doubt the he will get 6 nadals on the road to the final

No.
At least I hope so. He is a fantastic player when on, but with Monfils its such a toss up. You never know which Monfils will turn up. He could end up clowning up a major final :o

Everything is possible in this strong era.

I said yes because he may just string 6 good matches in a row or get lucky. If Nadal won USO10, nothing is impossible. Then again, not everyone can get draws rigged for them.

Hell, he might not even make another QF run ever at a slam.

Not till he grabs a masters. Let's just ignore the DelPo phenomenon for now.

He could. He just has to learn to play well for more than 2 matches at a time.

I don't think so. Whenever he gets put on center court the temptation to do cartwheels and handstand shots is too much for him, and serious players take advantage.

Would be a shame if he didn't. So much talent.

Of course he can. He's been 1 match away hasn't he? If you've been to enough QFs/SFs you got a F coming. Just like if you've been to enough Fs you got a W coming.

When you are one match away all it takes is a bad day for the opponent.....or a non-clown day for Monfils himself. Optimally a non-clown day for Monfils and a bad day for whatever top player he's facing.

I doubt it. While he can play amazing, I'm afraid in order to play 6 best of 5 set matches playing his more aggressive style of play is near impossible, considering he will naturally have to pass either Federer, Djokovic, Nadal and Murray. The draw would have to open up and he would have to play some exceptional tennis throughout.'

Tell that to Davydenko and Ferrer.
