Massive forehands, he broke in the perfect moment the 3 times.
Great, i'm so damn happy! Go Jo!!!!
Monfils started well and continued not so well...

First and last as he is one of those MM specialists.

Getting easier draw is hard, even at challenger level.

Big choke from Monfils from 5-3, but credit to Tsonga for hanging tough.
Sure, he had a very easy draw and a stroke of luck in the semis, but nonetheless great tournament for him, perfect going into his best slam.

I am just hoping not to see Tsonga anywhere near Federer in Australia. Not only because I am sick and tired of the matchup :D

Well played by Tsonga! He deserves the title, and has a great shot at making it to the final weekend at the AO.

Finalist at Paris and WTF, and now a winner at Doha.

Good luck to Tsonga and Monfils for the rest of the season!

Just to good from Tsonga. He was hitting some great BHs down the line some amazing returns as well. He's going to be mighty hard to beat at AO.

What has he done to make them think like that? Yes, nothing.

Its reasonable respect against him but there is better players with better potential.

Because he beat Jaziri, Cipolla and Ramos? He reached the final by a withdrawal and beat a rather average Monfils. Certainly Novak, Roger, Rafa and others are panicking.

Monfils absolutely not reaching the level he played the past two days, and as soon as Tsonga found steam (midway the first set), the outcome was NID. Pretty sure neither of DjokoNadFedMuzza want to see him appearing in their quater coming AO!
Nice to see these two friends getting on so well together btw. It looked to me like an exhibition match at times. :D

Congrats Jo-Willie, and kudos to Monfils too - hopefully we'll be seeing more of the level he played against Nadal and Troicki in the future.

He's reached a string of finals now, and even though he lost to Roger mostly, those weren't easy matches for Federer. Sorry, but I think Tsonga should surely not be underestimated for the AO.

As soon as Jo stopped playing within himself he ran away with it. Monfils not as good as yesterday. Tsonga looks primed for a good run at AO, people in here downplaying his chances seem to just dislike him. The guy beat Fed just a couple of slams ago, ok he has wasted opportunities against him since then but no one is saying he is going to beat the top guys everytime, only that he has a chance.

Nadal played ok not fantastic the other day but Monfils did play at a very very high level much of the match.

as for Tsonga winning Doha, definitely not the hardest draw BUT you can count on Monfils to fold in finals... both are definitely in good form but one must wonder what happened to Gael's gameplan in this match. does he have no answer for facing agressive big server?

If I only watch Murray matches, why would I watch this match? I didn't watch the Nadal-Monfils match because Nadal has a great record against him and I thought it would be a routine victory. The Monfils I saw against Tsonga in the final is classic Monfils, no real strategy/game plan.

In the 2008 Australian Open, unseeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga lost in the Final in 4 sets to 3rd seeded Novak Djokovic.
In the 2010 Australian Open, 10th seeded Mr. Tsonga defeated 3rd seed Mr. Djokovic in 5 sets in the Quarterfinals.

Look, it seems as though Mr. Tsonga matches up with Mr. Djokovic in Melbourne fairly well, handles the surface, and his current form seems good enough to go fairly deep in the Australian Open this year, playing consistently enough (an improvement) to have reached his last 3 finals (Paris-Bercy, London, Doha), winning the last.

I'd like to see how the draw looks before giving an opinion on Mr. Tsonga's odds of winning the AO.

Respectfully,

Yeah, I want Tsonga to face Djokovic in the AO and finally win against him, he has a positive H2H but last year he couldn't win a single match vs Djoko. It was very close at Wimbledon.

But... We didn't see 2012 Djokovic yet, he's maybe in the heat of the moment like last year.

Tsonga is enjoying an excellent run post US Open, collecting 3 titles and 2 plates of big tournaments in process.
Image If Federer didn't rediscover his form indoors, Tsonga would probably stay unbeaten since Shanghai.

I believe Jo's peak has started at Wimbledon and continues to this day.
I can definitely see him winning AO with a favourable draw.

No,because he was clearly the second best player in last indoor season, because he almost beat Roger in last TMC final, because he beat Roger playing absolutely wonderful tennis in Roger's favourite tournament(Wimbledon) and last but not the least, because he already reached an AO final losing only to an on-fire Djoker and an AO 1/2 final beating Djoker.
And i'm not even a fan of Tsonga, mind you.
