I looked for some info but couldn't find anything:( At least he won't lose any points since he didn't play there last year...

tennis.com said it was a knee problem

mateusz2904

James Blake has pulled out of Brisbane and the Australian Open with right knee trouble. Found that on tennis.com. Hope he'll be fine in February. The season hasn't even begun yet and he's struggling with the injury

KrisJB
12-30-2011, 11:14 AM
According to his FB entry, he is still rehabbing his right knee. Probably, he wants to be sure that he is healthy and he saves some of his energy. He did the same last year as he started in San Jose in February and it proved to be a good decision.

mateusz2904
12-30-2011, 01:48 PM
He's 32 now, so he has to be careful with his schedule. He knows best what's good for him.

nalbyfan
12-30-2011, 03:52 PM
Maybe should he undergo a surgery ? Wawrinka, Tsonga, Andreev did it and they came back strong after that

mateusz2904
12-30-2011, 10:23 PM
We don't know enough to judge his decisions. Personally, I think it's too late for him for serious surgeries (of course unless it is necessary). It's too risky.

James lost 6-0 6-2. Injury or rust? I'm hoping for the latter .

FlameOn
02-21-2012, 11:01 PM
This loss was shameful and embarrassing rusty or not.

KrisJB
02-22-2012, 08:47 AM
However, it shall be mentioned that James lost a few matches in a similar fashion in his career, e.g. vs Nieminen 0-6,2-6 (Stockholm 2010), Istomin 3-6,0-6 (Cincinnati 2010), Spadea (San Jose 2005). Maybe, it was simply a very bad day at the office or he played conservatively to check his state of health.

mateusz2904
02-22-2012, 10:27 AM
That's painful. However, we must remember that he played his last match on tour almost 4 months ago. That's a long period of time. James now is supposed to play in Delray Beach, Indian Wells and Miami. I hope he will do better there.

david_williams

James lost to Zverev 3-6 3-6 in the second round of Le Gosier. Based on reports, Zverev played a great match. James is still likely rusty from not having played in a significant amount of time. His next tournament will be Houston next week. Clay isn't his surface but it presents a good opportunity for James to gain match toughness. GL to him in Texas!

James is in the doubles draw! ;) -->

[1]Mirnyi/Nestor v Johnson/Sock
Norman/Waske v Cermak/Mertinak
Blake/Querrey v Huey/Inglot
J.Murray/Sa v [15]Peya/Soares

---------------------------------------------------------------

There is an interesting article on ESPN.com (http://espn.go.com/tennis/usopen12/story/_/id/8308422/us-open-james-blake-here-stay).
* James SERIOUSLY considered retirement back in April - or as his brother put it - "I know he came really close. Really close."
* He plans on playing tour and challenger events in the fall to get his ranking up to make the Australian Open main draw.
* He still wants to keep playing for another year (or more if he can) because he still loves the sport. ;)

From the press conference (http://www.usopen.org/en_US/news/interviews/2012-08-27/201208271346104986338.html):Q. Health‑wise how are you feeling?

JAMES BLAKE: I feel great. Just don't worry about the ice. That's just preventive. The shoulder feels better than ever; knee feels better than ever. I'm actually feeling great. It's a really good feeling. That's been exciting for me the last I'd say three or four weeks during the summer where I actually feel like I can move the way I used to or the way I need to to compete here.

I think I was kidding myself earlier in the year thinking I was able to move at this level and I really wasn't after the knee surgery. I think I more wanted it to be okay than it really was okay.

Now for it to really feel the way it does, I feel like I can move and be effective with my legs. Without my legs I'm a pretty average to below average player here. I need those to be strong. The way it's feeling now, I want to just keep on playing.

Q. This is the healthiest you have been since...

JAMES BLAKE: '08, '09. My knee was giving me problems for a while and I didn't bring it up a lot. I didn't want to talk about it because it was something that would nag at me. Then it would go, I could be okay for half a match, and then it starts getting worse. Then I know the next day is going to be terrible.

It just eventually got to a point where I couldn't even make it through a match and it got worse and worse. Eventually the only option was surgery.

It was a while, but I kind of battled with that and it feels good.

I saw a set and a half, and James was amazing (his forehand :hearts:). If he can maintain that level, he can beat Raonic. Canadian seemed to have some troubles in 1st round match.

Lost 7-6 3-6 4-6

Fourth-seeded German Florian Mayer battled past American James Blake 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 50 minutes. It was Mayer's first win in four meetings over the former World No. 4. Mayer saved six of seven break points and withstood 12 aces from Blake’s racquet to reach his third tour-level quarter-final of the year

Blake shows he can still play at 32 (http://norcaltennisczar.blogspot.com/2012/10/blake-shows-he-can-still-play-at-32.html)

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5j53j1mDnfs/UHKzXaRRUfI/AAAAAAAAAUA/fyjWL8K9pz8/s1600/IMG_1665.JPG

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- James Blake isn't quite ready to get another job or be a stay-at-home father.
The American veteran, who will turn 33 in December, showed in the $100,000 RelyAid Natomas Challenger that he still has some tennis left in him. Blake, seeded second, fought off unseeded Mischa Zverev of Germany 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 Sunday at the Natomas Racquet Club for the title.
"It's nice to still be able to move around at 32 and do this for a living," Blake told the crowd afterward.

In an All-American doubles final, former University of Tennessee teammates Tennys Sandgren and Rhyne Williams saved four match points to defeat Devin Britton and Austin Krajicek 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 tiebreak for their first Challenger doubles crown. Both teams were unseeded.

Blake, ranked No. 97 entering the tournament after reaching a career-high No. 4 in 2006, underwent surgery on his right knee last November and earlier this year seriously considered retiring.

"Without my legs, I'm a below-average player," he told ESPN.com in August at the U.S. Open. "To be honest, I was worried that my knee wasn't coming around. I was going to give it this summer. I was thinking that might be it."
Love of the game brought him back, and his knee responded.
Blake's life off the court also is looking up. He became a father when his fiancee, Emily Snyder, gave birth to a daughter, Riley, on June 10. The wedding is scheduled for November in California.

"Winning here is great," said Blake, who narrowly lost to 6-foot-10 Ivo Karlovic in last year's Sacramento final, "but nothing puts a smile on my face like seeing my daughter."
Zverev had plenty of reason to smile, too.
"I went to the Golden Gate Bridge and got to the final, so it was a good week," said the private pilot, who twice rented a plane and went for a spin during the week.
Zverev, a 25-year-old left-hander, was born in Moscow but moved to Germany at 4. His father, who played Davis Cup for the Soviet from 1982 to 1987, received an attractive coaching offer there. Mischa climbed to No. 45 in the world in 2009 before injuries derailed his career. He was No. 168 entering the Natomas Challenger.

Blake and Zverev enthralled the crowd with vicious groundstrokes, amazing gets and outstanding athleticism. Zverev also volleyed crisply.
The first two sets were almost exact opposites. There were two service breaks in each set, and both provided leads of 3-1 and 5-1.
The only break of the third set came in the last game. From 15-15, Blake ripped a forehand winner off Zverev's second serve and a backhand cross-court passing shot off Zverev's first delivery for 15-40. After Zverev missed his first serve, Blake slugged a deep forehand, and Zverev sent a forehand long to end the battle.

Blake committed no double-faults in the match and won 20 of 23 points (87 percent) on his serve in the third set, including all 11 on his first serve.
Looking ahead, Blake isn't eyeing a return to the top 20.
"I never make ranking goals," he said. "I just want to get better and play as long as I can."

Anyone know if this current event is James last this year, or will he make another ATP pro event

SapELee
10-11-2012, 09:41 PM
I don't think this will be Jame's last event since he has lots of points to defend. I think he needs to play a couple more to make the AO maindraw.

If James wins Tiburon he will gain 100 points, so he will have 687 points. Even if he doesn't play any tournament till the end of the year he will lose 155 points for Stockholm and Basel, so he will have 532 points. This will make him about No. 106 or 107 in the world, so he could qualify to Australian Open as usually 104 players qualify automatically and some players withdraw. But if he doesn't win Tiburon, he would have to play an extra event ...

No, the qualies cut off is 75 (James' current ranking:87) and he didn't sign up for it anyway. http://www.tennisteen.it/entry-list/15227-atp-entry-list-29-ottobre-4-novembre-2012.html
