Which actor do you think was the best James Bond?

Think this could be a great discussion.

I have to say I dont think any of the actors were a bad Bond nor were any of the films "bad" but they were all different in their own ways.

Im split between Timothy and Pierce but suspect Pierce will get more love so i'm going for Timothy Dalton.

I think he was the closest to Ian Flemmings idea of Bond, and I think The Living Daylights would be in my personal top 3 favourite Bond flicks.

Brosnan and Connery are my favourites, Goldeneye being my favourite Bond movie.

Daniel Craig in Casino Royale was the best. Too bad Quantum of Solace sucked. Brosnan and Connery are next in line.

Brosnan in truth. Probably because I watched his movies as a spotty spy action thrill seeking teen.

Connery set the standard. Dr. No kicked it off, was awesome, as were From Russia With Love and Goldfinger. Thunderball was eh, but You Only Live Twice was epic, possibly the best of them all. And Diamonds Are Forever was another classic, to end the Connery era.

Lazenby had a one movie streak, On Her Majesty's Secret Service was pretty good. Shame he only got 1 movie.

Roger Moore probably is the one most recognize with, and he took Connery's standard into the 70's and early 80's. His first 3 movies, Live and Let Die, Man With The Golden Gun, and Spy Who Loved Me are probably equal with Connery's first 3. Moonraker was eh, like Thunderball, and For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy were good, sure, but maybe combined only as good as You Only Live Twice. Moore's last film, A View To A Kill, was a supreme epic, and probably ties him with Connery as James Bond GOAT.

Timothy Dalton. Me and my friend argue about this all the time. Dalton had two Bond movies in the late 80's, The Living Daylights and License To Kill. I personally enjoyed them both, despite a slight bit of cheesiness and the 80's soundtrack. He disagrees, whatever. Dalton wasn't bad at all.

Pierce Brosnan I grew up on. GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day, all classic movies, I loved all 4. It's a real shame Pierce only got 4 movies, cause Daniel Craig sucks, I think. Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace have been average at best, and Skyfall will probably be more of the same.

My vote goes to Connery, the original.

I voted for Pierce because I just personally like him in everything. But I guess really with Bond the original was the best with Connery.

Is there really any need for a poll? It's obviously Sean Connery & Dr No, Goldfinger, & From Russia with Love are by far the best Bond films. (Honourable mentions to You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, Live & Let Die, The World is Not Enough, & Casino Royale.)

A better poll would be for the best film, or even better, for the best book.

I know I'm in the minority here among 007 fans but my vote goes to Moore.

Connery was a greater actor overall but the best to impersonate 007 is Moore because he had humor, irony. He was Fleming's choice, actually. Broccoli and Saltzman chose Connery. His Bond was way funnier than Connery's. But it's actually all he had. Moore sucked in more dramatic roles like in The Man Who Haunted Himself.

But in my humble opinion, Lord Brett Sinclair (The Persuaders) is Moore at his best. Followed by Templar. :worship:

Edit: Oh and 007 stopped with Octopussy. :p

But the Bond in the books is hardly funny at all.

I know most people don't agree, but for me Pierce Brosnan was BY FAR the best one! :worship:

Now a blond Bond? :spit: come on!

Brosnan. He should be a Bond long before his first one if not for the TV series contract that tie him up. I am a big fan of his Remington Steele TV series before his Bond run.

On the other hand, Connery is a better actor and another great Bond.

Tough choice......

Connery
I'd rate Brosnan as the 2nd best Bond ever

I must admit I haven't read the book but why on earth should we discard films because they're "freely" adapted from the corresponding book? Cinema is a different genre. It's animated pictures. It implies different attitudes.

The Spy Who Loved Me is - it seems - totally different from the book. The staff was conscious of that. Should we argue that it is - for that reason - a bad film? I don't think so.

I like Mr Connery and he's one of my all time favorite actors, but I'll go with Craig here. I know it's all just a movie and make believe, but all the past Bonds are nothing short of preposterous. Roger Moore is an awesome actor, but as soon as his Bond would point his gun in any direction, enemies were instantly dropping dead like flies, maybe even before he would take the gun, just in case :p

Craig makes at least a little more credible/believable Bond - it's still a fairy tale, but at least it's not corny that much :)

Sean Connery is the MAN. He doesn't need to act cool, it comes naturally to him.

Others are way behind Sean Connery. He successfully combined the air of a man who is violent and threatening if needed but also witty. Others have been either/or.

Roger Moore is not very believable as a secret agent who can/will kill.

I really liked Casino Royale as well since it set a new "modern" standard for Bond flicks and Craig was a much more rugged and believable agent than many before him, however the film wasn't as light-hearted as many before it.

IMO only Brosnan's first Bond films amounted to anything, the last two were rubbish.

Easilly the worst Brosnan Bond flick

It was bad, but the worst bond film was Die Another Day. Best Actor to be bond is Craig, then Connery and then Dalton.

always said Roger Moore, i think maybe because i liked that period of Bond movies from 70's till mid 80's

what liked about Moore was he showed some humour in Bond

Connery was 2nd best and for me the gap is a million miles down to any of the other Bond actors with possibly the worst of all time right now
