Last clay event in S.A, playing Acapulco as 3th seed, very disappointing performances from Gillou in Sao Paulo & Buenos Aires. He hasn't lost any points from 2011, but it would be good to end up well the S.A swing.

Top-10 is really, really far ATM, Delpo has a lead of 655 pts over him . He has a bad 7-5 mark this season, losses coming to Dolgopolov,Bennetau, Monfils, Nalbandian & Berlocq. He has a 0-10 mark against Top-50 players since USO R4.

Had he played more or less well at S.A, he would have been selected for DC, because it's going to be played in slow clay, on Monte-Carlo.

It seems like he withdrawed from Kooyong, as Raonic and Fish are the ones who got the last spots

Except for the R1 i don't like the draw. Mahut on R2, Melzer/Petzschner on QF and Dolgo or Steps in SF it's tough.

lalaland

I expect him to be on center court for the next match since he's playing an Aussie. Can't wait to see him.

the 2nd set of that match felt tighter than the 1st despite not going to the breaker. the last game was a good one and gilles played 2 awesome points to finish it.

cant complain so far 3 matches, 6 sets won. next match will obviously be tougher but i think simon should pull through it.

hopefully baggy can beat murray

Yes, Murray run himself nicely into great form. So it will be a tall task for anyone to beat him here.
But anyway, Gilles is still not there yet, he still has a very tough SF to play this afternoon. So good luck, hope he can pass the dog test. Allez.

sammy01

very happy he is cleaned shaved, obviously it has nothing to do with me finding him hotter that way, it is cus he is more aerodynamic without it when moving

sammy01
01-07-2012, 03:02 AM
tough opening service game dog seems to be hitting the ball well

1-0*

lalaland
01-07-2012, 03:05 AM

I only like him shaved for the asethetic effect, people keep saying a strong wind can blow Gilles off, so I think he doesn't need to be more aerodynamic :p.

But anyway, Dolgo came prepared, with all guns already blazing. Gilles' like still in his warmup mode, comparatively. C'mon Gilles, you need to get to high gear fast.

sammy01
01-07-2012, 03:12 AM
dog is scaring me, gilles seems to be just be feeding him and dog aint scared of going for those big winners

I had hoped Gilles would win, but the dog can really play some tennis. But look at it this way Gilles is much, much, much, better looking :)

sammy01

3-4* gilles cant rely on dog missing, as it seems he is playing well.

cmon gilles up it a bit

sammy01

that was a tight game 3-3, this match is on a knife edge right now

lalaland
01-07-2012, 04:00 AM
Please win your own serve Gilles. Don't get grumpy.

Dolgo's having trouble with his leg, so put some doubt in him to help him out.

lalaland
01-07-2012, 04:04 AM
Srsly, Gilles sucks at trying to hit winner off the return, he misses every single time. He needs to train more on that.

sammy01
01-07-2012, 04:14 AM
and more misses going for winners on return 4-5, he better hold here

sammy01
01-07-2012, 04:20 AM
well that was predictable, when you dont put any pressure on dog's serve be slapping return errors then dont get 1st serves in serving to stay in the match u are fucked. grrrrrrrrrrr

The Dog was really barking :dog: So sorry Simon

lalaland
01-07-2012, 04:27 AM
Well. That's it. Lost in 2. I think he's still not very strong mentally, with his opponent hurting a bit, he shouldn't get so worked up himself, instead of staying calm and trying to frustrate his opponent, he got so frustrated himself and hit UEs and go for winners in less opportune times, didn't get first serves in the last serve game to save those MPs....So many things to reproach in this match. Dolgo has hot hand but I think Gilles could have done better.

Oh well. Moving on. Hopefully, he can relax a little next week and get himself all ready for Melbourne.

Well, for the record, he did break back and it's now 4-4, 15 all.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 07:25 AM
5-4. and Udomchoke called for a trainer, getting some massage on his thighs, both legs....ummmm, cramping?

lalaland
01-17-2012, 07:29 AM
No hinder in his movement though, whatever the problem is, is not affect his play. And Gilles is helping, lost all 4 pts on Danai's in less than a min, what a gentleman.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 07:30 AM
Gilles, please break him, I don't want to see TB. He's leading 6-5 now.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 07:32 AM
It's definitely in a cramping nature, for Udomchoke's "injury". Cos he's not taking MTO, just getting massages from trainer during rest.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 07:44 AM
Another BHDTL from Udomchoke. Stop giving that shot to him, Gilles. SP for Danai.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 07:45 AM
Sh*t, he gave him that shot to hit again and it burned him, again. He lost the 3rd set.

W/UE Gilles 13/19 Danai 13/15

lalaland
01-17-2012, 07:50 AM
Why is it he can only turn brilliant when he's down facing top guys like Fed? You would think if he can do it to Fed, he can do it to anyone, but no, not Gilles.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 07:53 AM
He's trying to break down the guy's BHDTL shot by keep feeding him that shot to hit, I get it now. Just cover the line though when you do that, okay? Geez.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 07:54 AM
Sorry guys, I'm not feeling good, I think he's going to lose. This is getting too much like last fall .

lalaland
01-17-2012, 07:57 AM
Udomchoke lost his leg a little in his serve and Gilles just hit error off a soft 2nd serve, WTF. This is not fun to watch.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 08:00 AM
Now Udomchoke is not even running that much anymore. If only Gilles can get himself calm and not losing his head....

lalaland
01-17-2012, 08:01 AM
Like that, just keep him running left and right and keep the ball going, easy enough.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 08:03 AM
There, a break. Now Udomchoke can't even get trainer to massage him anymore, has to do it himself. Poor guy. But I'm here to cheer for Gilles, so no sympathy for the enemy.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 08:09 AM
Errrr, Gilles, you should be breaking him left and right. Why aren't u? Still playing like crap.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 08:10 AM
Sorry guys, for my monologue, it's easier to stay calm by doing sth else than watching the match.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 08:12 AM
His opponent is running better now, you beware, Gilles.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 08:13 AM
Damn, my recording broken. Even the machine has enough of this match :p. No matter, I can record the replay later.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 08:17 AM
He took set 4. Will serve first in the 5th.

lalaland
01-17-2012, 08:20 AM
W/UE Gilles 9/8 Danai 3/13. Gilles only serving at 42%, Danai at 59%.

Now Gilles is doing some stretching himself, just a little more than his normal ones, not to be alarm of, I hope.

Srsly, Gilles
Broken when serving for it. Hit like 5 UEs in this game, I think he didn't have 5 UEs the whole set until this game.

I think Udomchoke is hoping you win it sooner to put him out of his misery. Or just win it sooner to put yourself out of this misery.

So he won. It's ugly but it's still a win. He gets a chance to play prettier next time.

Lala, I should have checked here earlier today. I was cheering for Gilles while all my (Thai) friends were for Danai. Anyway, the good takeaway, besides the win, it seems that Gilles' fitness is in its top form. He didn't seem tired at all.

another horror story to start the year. so many problems with his game the past year, but maybe the worst is the fact that even as a top 10 player he gets no respect from others and there's absolutely no fear factor when he walk up to court. if a player ranked 200+ manages to take 2 sets from him, i'm pretty sure all the other players are more than happy to see Simon's name in the draw. and why shouldn't they, every single game he would give his opponent plenty of chances to get back into the match, even if the unthinkable has happened and he plays good from the start. I mean, he can't (mentally more than ability, i feel) do a simple 1-2 after the serve and keep the other guy under pressure, he would have to feed him 5 shots at least to get them both into some sort of rythm instead of going cut-throat, or something a bit more occupying. even in Hamburg where he won he couldn't get a straight sets win (maybe the first round). anyway, terribly depressing, cause when you watch him, even though he is a small guy relatively, you feel he can do more - but his lack of intelligence in the game (and i'm sorry, he plays very stupidly most of the time, though his opponents like to comment him as a "smart" player - bs, hitting back the ball isn't smart, i.e the match against Isner) would kill him every time. I just hope he manages to climb out of this situation and play a bit more like a player who nobody wants to play against. or for me to find someone new to like...

or just fire his coach and get a new one. who knows, maybe they have reached their top together.

allez, top five until wimbledon!

p.s. anyone did a statistic of the points he takes from GS and Masters events compared to the other top 20? i'll check it and have a feeling he's going to be poorly ranked in that departent.

mike s.
01-19-2012, 09:08 PM
I agree with almost everything you said in that post. I think he might need to get a new coach as well. Obviously he's loyal to Tulasne but I think he needs a different perspective right now because what he's doing is not working. I can't count how many times he had the upper hand in a point in that first set and lost because he wasn't putting the ball away even though we know he's capable of doing so.

Anyway, I'm critical because I want to see him do his best. Hopefully he turns it around in the spring.

This result is surely a bitter disappointment to all, especially to Gilles, he has set pts for both set 1 & 2 and he blew them. It’s time for him to reassess his games in both tactical and mental aspects, especially if he’s aiming to win big tournaments, time is running out. But then again, didn't he mention recently about wanting to change, and play more offensively? so he may have a new plan already. It's just a matter of whether if he's able to make that change. I think the recent problem is that he is indecisive in what way he should play. At the moment, he seems to be a bit lost on court when he’s down, to me is that he’s a bit confused on what approach he needs to use, should he sticks with his old style to steady the ship, or should he changes to be aggressive to change things up. When I watch his match against Dolgo, he tried to play very aggressive at the end, but he just keep missing. So then the next couple of matches, he’s getting a bit apprehensive when hitting offensive shots (OMG, those overheads all came back to bite him). Hence, poor choices at wrong moments, that just to me means his mind is a bit clouded.

We can’t expect him to turn offense overnite, but he’s in no man land at the moment, it’s painful to watch. I think he needs to finally feel comfortable to take charge at key moments of the game, right now he is not. I don’t know how he can get himself there, I hope he and his team will work out a way. Maybe just decide on 1 way of playing and stick to it throughout the match regardless of whether it works or not. So then he can train himself to a certain mindset?

I would agree that a new coach maybe needed in order to facilitate changes. But I’m an old-school really, which loyalty is kind of important. Tutu is very loyal to Gilles, he said he would love to be the DC captain but if it interferes with his duty to Gilles, then he won’t take it. So naturally, I don’t mind if Gilles is also loyal to Tutu. I guess, bottomline is what are Gilles’ priorities. If he keeps Tutu, can’t say I will disagree with his choice. He need to sort his mess out, if changing coach is not an option for him, then find other ways, talk to a shrink (although he's very oppose to the idea of a shrink). Or, he is already doing sth, I don’t know, I don’t want to assume that he’s not aware of his problems. I mean, I have always been an optimist when it comes to Gilles. He maybe dumb in making those mistakes, but I always trust that he is smart enough to know what mistake he made, whether or not he can correct it is however an entirely different matter, not to mention his stubbornness always stands in the way.

Well, hope he’s not too frustrated, hope he isn’t doubting himself (which would not help matter), hope he bounces back soon. And I still think that it's a matter of belief, more than anything.

Btw, I have R2 match. There was a massive power outage here, I just turn my computer on for the first time since Gilles’ match end at 4ish am couple days ago. So, I will upload the match as soon as I can. I’m sure you guys are dying to see it, or…maybe not.

Ok, this must sound like I was looking for an excuse for his suckness, but it's not. It's more like: it wasn't as bad as I thought. Last week when I was watching his match, I wondered what the hell happened to his serve, cos he's rolling the ball in. I was a bit annoyed thinking that everything is going backward for him now, including that damn serve which is not even that good at the first place. Well, turned out it's that neck problem again. TBH, it wasn't much of a relief to know that he wasn't really regressing, but his neck problem is recurring in an alarming frequency.

Anyway, I completely forget to read the post-match stuffs at L'Equipe last week, now that I remembered...

» – R. Te. Jan 20th, 2012.

Is it really nothing to reproach? emmm, Gilles, I hope deep down you are kicking yourself :(.

BTW, he was fined $1500 for code violation, Julien was fined $2500 for the same thing in that match., the audiences should be allowed to share the fines since they suffered an earful that nite.

Was it that bad? I didn't hear it in the ten minutes I could watch.

I heard Gilles, I didn't hear Julien's (I didn't watch the 3rd/4th set). Well, you know Gilles, he yelled whenever he got frustrated, which was plenty often. It's a miracle he doesn't get code violations in a regular basis. But I guess he usually just yelled sth mild like "I can't do this or I don't know how to play or I'm an idiot :p"... nothing too obscene to get a violation. then I again, what do I know what he yelled in French .

Gilles will play doubles with Mannarino in Montpellier, they face Mahut/ERV on R1. Good that he's playing dubs again, he stopped playing them since Cincy 2011, only to play Brisbane in January. Hope he is fully fit, the constant back/neck problems must be frustrating

Draw in Montpellier:

Lopez(5)- Kunitsyn
Rufin- Pospisil
Cipolla-Qualifier
Simon- Bye

Good draw, good R2 I think, and then Lopez could be tough. SF potential opponent is Gael.

Allez Gilles :) !

Does that mean he's not making Gilles go to Vancouver as a sub? Well, that's nice of him. And that makes me feel better, I was still kicking myself for missing out on the DC tickets in Vancouver, now I know I won't be missing it :).

I just saw the draw and I'm surprised how deep it is. Lopez will be tough in the quarters although I suppose I shouldn't overlook his first match considering who he's lost to the last few months :o. Good luck Gilles, win this thing!

I watched the stream, but it's so blurred I can hardly see the ball . He seems to come forward a lot though. And did he tell Tutu to shut up after he broke 2nd game in the 2nd set? :p

Pretty good ratio for W/UE: Gilles 29/26 and Cipolla 13/24. Good to see him practicing his aggression on early match, or maybe just this one...

Allez, for the next round against another Frenchie up and comer.
BTW, Gilles' record against Frenchie up and comer is pretty pathetic, Mannarino, Paire... The fact that Rufin ranks so low makes it even more nervous for me, if that makes any sense . C'mon Gilles. Please win.
