Yes Richard, tell Forget to just play his favorites - Tsonga and Llodra for singles

Getting intersting now for France but still think whoever plays (except Tsonga and Llodra as singles), France has a great chance. Isner, Harrison and the B Brothers are really handicapped on clay (i STILL can't believe Isner beat Fed on clay and think Isner will never do something like that again - which probably just assured that he will).

I THINK I read on RG net (I think, since my French is so bad and Google translate isn't much better) that Forget said he only selected 4 this time because basicaly he didn't want to undermine the confidence of the singles players (ie. Tsonga). Either Forget is crazy OR maybe no else (Richard/Gilles) was willing to go - doubt that's the case but wouldn't it be funny if Forget now has to BEG.

Hmmmm, I thought he would of picked Gasquet. I'm sure Forget doesn't have faith in Gasquet. Simon's back was troubling him in Miami and he would of needed rest therefore the logical choice would of been picking Gasquet. Anyway, Allez France!

Forget on why he didn't pick Gasquet : "Gasquet couldn't serve and play a five setter so the choice was obvious".

I doubt it, but they need an official explanation. It looks more like face-saving to me, mainly for Forget, but also for Richard in case he refused.

 GIlles, WOW! either Richard said "no" or Forget has lost his marbles (I'm picking the latter). Simon certainly doesn't have any better DC history than Richard, Gilles is no where near as good on clay as Richard AND his back was a problem in Miami - WTF???

I'm glad Richard is out of that mess (sorry Gilles) but Forget says the pick was obvious because Richard's elbow is hurting and can't go 5 sets - THAT is TROUBLESOME IF true???

Bucharest is possible:

For the second wild-card we are negotiating with Richard Gasquet (17 ATP) and Stanislas Wawrinka (29 ATP) and, depending on their performance at the tournament in Monte Carlo, we should reach a decision. So, we might even have the fifth player in Top 22 at the tournament.” said Bogdan Enoiu in the conference today.

Was it the ankle or the "elbow"? ;) DAMN RIchard! My interest in a tournament decreases dramatically when Richard is not in it - don't know why because lately RIchard just frustrates me when he's playing.

But it is too bad, with his Rome points falling off and no Monte Carlo points to help, he's going to really drop and need to work through some "bad draws" again.

Sorry Puschkin but know there will be plenty of good matches and even if not, you can't not enjoy being in Monte Carlo.

Hate that Richard is injured , and this is going to affect the clay season -He does have a lot of points to defend. Setting himself up for some tough matches in big events , when that seeding drops .
Has he ever made it through a whole season without an injury - freak accident - disaster ? I cannot remember any lately :(

If he does, I will report, but frankly, I don't think so. He might show up for a quick autograph session for one of the sponsors, as he did in 2009 when he also withdrew from the tournament.

But these are not the best occasions to approach him as you have to "fight" against many kids who are collecting signatures, sometimes not even knowing who the player is. :o

I do hope to be able to speak to Piatti, though. I have seen your twit with him, but unfortunately it was not very revealing.

Total washout in MC today, quali matches on one court (with a roof) only, no practice going on, just saw 2 players passing by- Wawrinka and Stakhovsky, but I spoke to Piatti, so mission for today accomplished :wink. Bukarest is not likely, needs to be fully fit when starting his huge clay programme, if he plays well, he might withdraw from one of Estoril, Madrid, Rome or Nice. Quite selfishly I also asked if Richard would make an appearance in MC, Piatti said he stayed for 3 days, but left already, I am not sure if he understood my question correctly. I was thinking of some promotion stuff, will keep my eyes open, nevertheless.

Yes, Eastbourne is the easier tournament to grab points but it's just before Wimbledon. Queens has a good entry list but Richard can defiantly reach the SF there and further.
Eastbourne is a 28 draw therefore Richard has a BYE into R2 and starts on Wednesday the latest.
I really hope he plays Queens, it's a great tournament! At Queens he will also have a BYE into R2 so he can have a Wednesday start.

Doubles with Benneteau at the Olympics

This is not surprsining. It was the original idea - Richard playing with Monfils - which was weird. I like Gael a lot, but he is not a great doubles player, grass is his worst surface and his state of health is uncertain for the Olympics.

I read (or at least I THINK- never can trust my French) on L'Equipe that "proposed" doubles for Olympics are Tsonga-Gasquet and Benneteau-Llodra.

I think this was a misinterpretation, Tsonga decided long ago that he wanted to play with Llodra, which was in my view very unfair to Benneteau. We even discussed that somewhere here. At that time it looked possible that Benneteau might have qualified for singles, which is apparently why they launched the idea of a Monfils-Gasquet doubles to give Richard a chance to be in London.

With Benneteau's and Gael's injuries, things turned out differently and I think it is the better solution. Just to note, that none of the French Olympic team has done anything of relevance in the grass court prep tourneys, but I would not make too much out of that, it will be a different game from Monday onwards.
