Thanks for these. Li Tu really seems to be going places. Very impressive win for the 15 year old playing 18s.

Maybe Saville is just a handy "grass" court player?

Maybe Saville is just a handy "grass" court player?

He made the AO junior final last year. And reached the QF's of a Futures even on hard last week. You dont get the number 2 junior ranking just by being a grass court player.

Surprising result although O'Connell did take Jose Statham to three sets a few weeks ago.

(3) Andrew Whittington Def James Frawley 6-3 1-6 7-5
(5) Andrew Harris Def (6) Ben Wagland 6-7(1) 6-2 6-2
(1) Luke Saville Def (2) Alex Bolt 7-5 7-5

1-2 quarter-final, nice. Plus Johnson finished 4th in his group but plays the quarters. I know Mousley withdrew, but what about Schipanski? What a mess!

It's a real shame Mousley had to withdraw (abdominal strain), he was doing great for a 15 year old.

No Kubler? It's interesting that Mott and Kyrgios get to play this instead of 16s. O'Connell obviously earned his spot this week.

Does Kubler have a temper a la Klein, Lindahl and Kelly who are all missing again this year? I would have picked Jason for sure as he has dome great things on clay. May be he and Luczak have already got their wc's into the main draw????

O'Connell's run comes to an end. There's a good chance he'll be the only one to defeat Saville this week. Finalists Saville and Whittington won the F12 doubles title together a few weeks ago.

I think Berman beat Ducky but I'm not positive...

Thanks. :)

i'm looking forward to Groth and Matosevic. it should be pretty entertaining with those two!

i'm happy that they put Duckworth on the streamed court, i don't think i've seen him play since the playoff one or two years ago and obviously he's come a long way since then.

JP looks like a serious contender, a semifinal against Marinko could easily go his way if he is consistent. A potential final against jones/duckworth/mitchell is also winnable fot JP. Big result from Kyrgios and really should fill him with some confidence for next year. My pick is JP and I think it is great another Queenslander is doing well. Expecting at least 2 Queenslanders to receive AO wildcards (JP and Mitchell).

Jones beat Propoggia 7-6 6-2 in the first quarter final. First match in the playoffs I've seen (http://www.tennis.com.au/tournaments/december-showdown/live-streaming), played in blustery conditions and Jones was more solid in the end.

Duckworth - Mitchell up now.

StevoTG
12-09-2011, 01:21 AM
Duckworth def Mitchell 6-3 7-5 in a great quality match I thought, especially considering the conditions. Duckworth looked very confident under pressure. Talking about Murray in his interview now and how he's a fan of his play.

Kyrgios - Matosevic next.

So both have wild cards now?

Most likely.

Jones better be awarded one. I measly Sydney main draw wild card in 2008 is not enough given his ranking and age. He should be given Sydney and Australian Open wild cards next year in my opinion.

RustyOz
12-10-2011, 07:10 PM
Jonesie should so have won that match. Duckworth returned well but Jonesie had game point if 9 of the 10 games in the 2nd set, could have won it 6-1 or 6-2. The wind played a big factor in the match, neutralising Jonesies obviously bigger game. Duckworth deserved the win for his tenacity and persistence.

I agree with what "StatRacket" says, hope Jonesie (deservedly) gets a WC from TA to a Grand Slam event, after all this time.
