Isner, by a mile.

Not only can he safely cane it at 110mph, he can kick it up so high it's almost impossible to attack.

Though the best second serve I've seen is from Raonic - he's not very consistent though.

This statistics doesn't tell anything . Majority of these guys on the list is here because they defend the second serve best, not because of quality of the serve . Just because of quality of the serve on this list are Roddick, Isner, Arthurs and maybe Federer . 2nd serve from other guys is just comic

I remember when Monfils had a set point against Isner in the US open and Isner lobbed Monfils with his second serve. He literally jumped into the air to try to catch the serve with his backhand and came up short, at 6 feet 4.

This stats is not about serve but about rallies capacity .. but look how high are Arthurs and Isner on that list. Surely considering their weak games besides the serve, one of them has got to have the best 2nd serve of all time.

And you obviously didn't see Hewitt destroy the Sampras serve.

Get real you can't compare the bounce, the speed and the angle that Isner gets with Sampras. If the surfaces would have been as fast as the ones in the 90's Isner would probably have around 70% 2nd serves won.

of course I did but Sampras was past his prime by that time....it's like comparing what Fed's loses today to 2006

Interesting thing about Sampras being destroyed by Hewitt.....Federer was also destroyed by Hewitt routinely and it made Federer give up on being a serve-volleyer. Federer had to become a baseliner in order to beat Hewitt.

So this is for when the second serve goes in, i.e. double faulting does not lower your percentage? Does anyone know?

It's a shame that the ATP Matchfacts site (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Matchfacts/Matchfacts-Landing.aspx) doesn't have double fault statistics any more.

2nd Service Points Won =/= Great Second Serve

It helps to have a good second serve but aces or unreturnables are not normal on second serves. A player may try for an ace on a second serve if he was up 40-0 or 40-15 but it's normally a get-the-ball-into-play high percentage serve with a bit of pace/spin. Sampras gets my vote because both his serves are the same.

Roddick in his prime can hit 190-200k kickers so i'll go with Roddick.

It's a no brainer really. Considering how shit the rest of Roddick's game is and he's yet able to be in the top 5 in the second serve winnig percentage

Roddick had a really good one, Isner has the best now. Sampras' 2nd was overrated; great for highlight reels and pretty clutch when need be, but overall not one I would call greatest all time.

federer is (as always) in every discussion

his peak 2nd serve was huge

sampras is disqualified since he had 2 first serves (as has already been said)

roddick had a good 2nd back in the day

isner right now imo

Sophocles

Sampras perhaps a bit over-rated in this. It's certainly not a no-brainer. Edberg & earlier, John Newcombe, caused all sorts of trouble for their opponents with their 2nd serves. Many players considered Edberg's 2nd serve harder to return than his first. Gonzales also had an excellent 2nd serve, overshadowed by the brilliance of his 1st. Of current players, the consensus is Isner & the consensus is right. Fed's 2nd serve has rarely been easy to attack but it's not the weapon that Isner's or peak Roddick's is/was.

Sampras. The end.

On a big serve in a big match to win a critical break point on second serve, Sampras is your man. No doubt.

For any "random" second serve, who the hell cares. Probably Isner. But if he was serving second serve on break point in a US Open final, he'd choke on his own tongue after shitting his pants.

Yeah this stat doesn't relate to how good a 2nd serve is, Nadal is top because he can scramble and moonball his way to win points behind it. The answer, of course, is Sampras.
