History of alternates in the tournament:

1996 Hannover: Thomas Enqvist (2 matches)
1997 Hannover: Thomas Muster, Tim Henman (both 1 match)
1998 Hannover: Greg Rusedski, Albert Costa (both 2 matches)
2002 Shanghai: Thomas Johansson (1 match)
2005 Shanghai: Fernando Gonzalez (2 matches)
2008 Shanghai: Radek Stepanek (2 matches)
2011 London: Janko Tipsarevic (supposedly 2 matches)

Masters 1998

Henman d. Rios 7-5 6-1 (Rios withdrew, replaced by Costa)
Corretja d. Agassi 5-7 6-3 2-1 ret. (Agassi withdrew, replaced by Rusedski)
Henman d. Corretja 7-6(4) 6-7(4) 6-2
Rusedski (alt.) d. Costa (alt.) 7-6(5) 6-1
Rusedski (alt.) d. Henman 6-2 6-4
Corretja d. Costa (alt.) 6-2 6-4

Corretja 2-1, 5-3
Henman 2-1, 4-3
Rusedski 2-0, 4-0

IMO to the semifinals should have moved Corretja and Rusedski, but Corretja and Henman did it.

If the rules haven't been changed since then, Tipsy would advance only by winning two matches on the assumption two other players haven't won two matches as well

Alternates get screwed by the rules a bit - he loses any tied situation automatically (wins, sets, games, whatever). He needs to beat Berdy and Djoko, and almost certainly for Ferrer to lose both remaining matches also.

Yup.

Certain now Federer will over take Murray for no 3, all he need is one more win!

He still needs to make the final to overtake Murray. Or if he went through with only 1 group win, needs to win the title - that's extremely unlikely though, maybe even impossible, can't be bothered looking at the permutations.

Only a matter of time though, Murray defends zero at Dubai, Rotterdam, Indian Wells and Miami.

Final 8 should be a tournament which promotes tennis on the highest level and shows tennis at brightest light and instead of this they allow to play a match on this stage to one fixer with shitty behavior . I mean, he usually retires every second match, ATP should give him few pennies more than the bookmakers are giving to withdraw before stepping on the court and save the last pieces of tennis dignity

You are saying final 8 should be tournament for best 8 players. And if you use your logic, if you have any, but going from your post, you probably don't... Using logic you would find out that the best 8 players from this season are playing, Andy unfortunately got injured, and the ninth best player came in. The fact that you don't like him, probably because he is a Serb, and you coming from that shit country of yours, which is known for not liking Serbs and which is known for 'inventing' match fixing, and known for having a 'match fixing mafia', and you are the one, who should talk shit like that about Janko fixing matches. If he is guilty, ATP would probably not let him play ever again. So just shut your mouth and go to some local bookie and fix matches, moron... I guess its to hard for you to bare theres two Serbs in the finals for best players in the world...

:rolls:

He doesn't espouse this kind of arrogance that some people claim. The fact of the matter is that he's one of the most successful players of all time who hasn't won a slam. He's had big wins over all of today's top players, and it's right that he should consider himself a contender at big tournaments. Were he not to talk as if he had a chance in big matches, he'd just be criticised for not believing in himself. He can't win either way with kakkernabs like yourself (and you btw, haven't won a slam, so why should we believe anything you say ). Oh and the injury was picked up during training, so there's really no reason for you to suggest it's related to his schedule.

WTF just reached the bottom with Fixarevic playing..

Andy didn't look very injured to me, offcourse he knows he is toast losing the match that was 200 points in the bag..

Did you even watch the match? If you did watch the match and somehow you didn't come to the conclusion that Andy was suffering from an injury then you must never have seen him play before :).

and also, I really do think Tipsarevic is worthy of being in this tournament. In fact I think he's someone who could add quite a bit of excitement - someone who's inconsistent but has a habit of rising to the occasion and being able to challenge the best on a good day. It strikes me that those who are saying this is the worst WTF ever haven't been watching tennis for very long.

And in his latest dig at the Scot, Federer claimed he was not always at the top of his game when he won a record-equalling five World Tour Finals titles.

“I’ve been unlucky towards the end of the season – I’ve had a back issue, I’ve had a quad issue,” said the winner of 16 Grand Slams.

“The year I beat David Ferrer at the Masters (2007), I had mononucleosis (glandular fever) but I came through that. I guess I’m tough in taking hits as well with my body. I know how to handle them.

“My body, even if it’s injured, can still play really well, whereas maybe other players, if they are injured, it doesn’t work any more.

“But that’s because I play offensively and I think that’s an advantage too."

thought Fed picked up his mono in January 2008  but seems he had it in 2007 as well, just spartanic :worship:

He's no more ridiculous that Simon, Robredo, Fish or Gaudio...the worst thing would be to have clown Monfils in Master, hope it'll never happen

Gaudio? i mean he was a grand slam champion.

Fed in 2007 won 3 GS, Masters Cup, all 4 GS finals, beat Nadull on clay and had mono

is a case to say that was better than the best year ever - Federer 2006

Tipsy's comments on Murray's withdrawal.

http://www.espn.co.uk/tennis/sport/story/122950.html
But Tipsarevic hit with Murray on Sunday, and the Serb insists Murray showed no signs of carrying an injury, and instead he was mentally preparing himself to play in Group B, instead of Mardy Fish, who had injured his hamstring at the Paris Masters.

"In practice, it honestly never crossed my mind that he could be injured," Tipsarevic said. "The only guy who I maybe suspected that might change was Mardy Fish before he played Rafael Nadal. But then when I saw him perform, at one point I was certain that I'm not going to play.

"Regarding Andy Murray, I never, ever thought that he might pull out before we practised or after the practice. I saw that he wasn't feeling great. I saw him also against David Ferrer (http://www.espn.co.uk/tennis/sport/story/122464.html). I felt that, you know, he was running okay but he wasn't feeling good on the court. I honestly never thought, you know, that he has a physical issue.

"Sometimes players feel tired. Normally when you play a set, and there is 10 or 15 minutes left, sometimes if you have a court longer you just stop. But I never thought that he stopped because he has a physical problem."

It's out of context, but I didn't see one mention of Murray in the quote.
