Bratislava F: Lacko def. Berankis 7-6(7) 6-2

Berankis had four set points in the first set tiebreaker. Lacko had four set points at *5-6 and served for the first set at *5-3. The difference is that Berankis saved the earlier set points with good serving primarily (Lacko did miss an easy forehand at 15-40 at 6-5 to win the set), but missed a put away backhand at *6-5 in the tiebreaker and choked a volley at *7-6. Had a *6-3 lead in the breaker.

Lacko played above himself all week and his motivation was very high. He earned the title this week and winning here obviously meant a lot to him.

Berankis will have to win in Finland next week to retain his top 100 spot and make Australia.

So many missed chances. Ricardas just gave it up then.

Well done Lacko.:hearts:
Hopefully next season he comes back to where he belongs (Top 100).

:woohoo: Lukaaaaas! :rocker2:

Nice way to finish the season, I hope he makes some noise next year like he did in the beginning of this year.
In Doha he played some monster tennis and bageled Nadal in the process. (Nadal def. Lacko 7-6 0-6 6-3)

It was a promising start but then all went downhill, I don't know why? He seems to have all the shots in the game but can't utilise them and just isn't consistent enough.

Ajde Lacko, I want you in top 60 soon! :rocker2:
:cheerleader:

People overrate Lacko on this forum. He's good for challengers, not ATP competition. He had his chance to establish himself as a top 100 player and failed to do so.

It will be tough if Berankis doesn't qualyfies for the Australian Open, as he defends R3 points + points from qualyfying. Nice win for Lacko, he is surely top-80 material

He is just lazy...He was a big talent, then I´ve heard he didn´t care about practicing and so and he started stagnating...but on his best, he is actually pretty dangerous...although the question might be where is actually his best and if he can stay on it more than 2-3 matches per season.

I don't know but I heard that he was struggling with some injuries this season after the good start at the beginning of the year. I believe that Lukas is a top 50 talent if he maximizes his potential. He is talented imo and very enjoyable player to watch when he is on (that's why i'm a fan of him). Hopefully he imporoves in 2012 and come back to where he belongs.

:yeah:

His best I do think is top 100 quality, but even then, he doesn't have one major weapon, which is what separates challenger level players and ATP players. He's good at many things, but nothing overwhelming.

Did you watch his match against Nadal in Doha this year?

Yeah Rafa wasn't at his best back then but the tennis that Lacko showed that day was really awesome. He played a perfect set of tennis in the 2nd set and would have beat most players in the top 100 with that kind of form. Sadly he is way too inconsistent and lazy as hell.

FiloV, stop talking nonsense

- He has an arsenal of weapons when he's on.
- If Kavcic made top 80, so can Lacko and maybe even Bilbo's grandmother on a wheelchair.

- I agree that he's good at many things.

He's just too inconsistent, like so many of them...
Looks like me and Kirihara are his biggest fans and defenders here. :D

Kavcic is a better player than Lacko and has weapons. Speed and consistency. Lacko plays an offensive style of play without having a huge weapon to make him overly successful doing so. Serve, forehand, backhand, volley, all decent shots, but nothing world class. And he is inconsistent, which hurts him.

Threatening a sick Nadal means little to me, especially since he lost and Rafa dominated the third set. He nearly lost to Riba the day prior.

I'm not even trashing Lacko, so I don't understand the defensiveness.

Lacko has got weapons, forehand and serve especially, often backhand. But these weapons have almost every top player.

The thing is to mix it up in head, have a good self-confidence and everything is possible. Look at Tipsarevic this fall.

Lacko, got no weapons, please top trolling Flyboy. He is lazy and inconsistent, but he has weapons not the application.

I didn't say he had no weapons, I said he doesn't have one outstanding attribute that would make him a top 50 player. He's got good shots, but what does he do that stands out? And he isn't overly consistent, within a match, let alone weekly. Add that on top of his lackadaisical attitude and you have Lukas Lacko.

Not a bad player, but not as good as a lot here think he is.

Also one curiosity according to Lacko winning this tournament.

He played all his 5 matches with one t-shirt, in which he destroyed Kubot 61 61 due to superstition.

He wash him every night, so no need to worry about smell :)

Well put. Lacko is a whacko! No doubt - but extremely talented - seems more than people realize. Big body that he moves very well and great hands , eye. He could be great on returns, much better at the net - big serve, big fh - much bigger bh if he wanted - he's a poor man Djokovic

The thing is , he's barely a Challenger - almost a Futures player due to his crazy mind. And a body that seems to tire too easily. People saying he has top 100 or 50 talent - I say top 20!! But wouldnt be suprised either if he stays out of the 100 for most of his career - but the talent is there
