During Tuesday's official announcement that the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver would host the 2012 Davis Cup World Group tie between Canada and France, Tennis Canada unveiled a pair of provocative posters to promote the event. The Vancouver Sun reports that one featured Canada’s top player, Milos Raonic, with the tag line: "Hey France, I’ve got a 151 m.p.h. serve. Try returning that with a baguette."

Another poster has Canadian player Vasek Pospisil saying, "Hey France, Welcome to Vancouver. My hometown and your worst nightmare."
Tennis Canada’s Gavin Ziv said the arena will seat just over 4,500 and he hopes it will create a "loud and vibrant atmosphere while still remaining intimate. We’ve got to teach the people how it’s done around the world and we should do the same here. We are patriotic. We showed it during the Olympics and we can bring that here. Don’t come in with the mentality of ‘Quiet please.’ You’ve got to cheer for your country and make it hard on the other team."

:superlol:

Sorry postermakers, I don't find these taglines witty or intimidating - they are lame and clumsy.
I am sure, MTF can think up something more subtle. Any ideas?

They are newcomer and excited. Passion is always loveable in Davis Cup.

Milos good luck trying to beat Gael or Jo in a best- of 5. You will be lucky to get one set.

He'll have helluva chance if they play with baguettes instead of racquets. Seems like he sure they will.

just a question man....I admire your love for Gael and Jo but you do know that they are not a standard for 5 set matches right?

You can have trouble attracting viewers with the tagline, "Let's try and win a set"

Good to see the Canadians enthused and ready. And they definitely have a legitimate shot at winning the event, although I think France will eventually win.

Lol. Raonic and Pospisil are good young talent. They will give France problems if they're overlooked.

I think it's cool. It's not trash-talking at all, it's funny stuff and it will be a real Davis Cup match.

Trash-talking is OK as long as you don't come off looking stupid...

The only way we have a shot is if they make the court so fast they need skates to play.

I think this kind of talk is great! It adds passion and fun to the Davis Cup. This is the right spirit for Davis Cup.

And I think the Canadians have a shot. Pospisil will do much better than his ranking suggests with the crowd support, and Milos' serve will be a terrific weapon. Nestor will probably be playing soubles...

Of course he French are favoured to win this, but I'm sure they're not underestimating the Canadians. :)

would love to see the french play a relegation playoff vs Tomic, Gooch and the aussie barbarians... Tomic would cause a bloodbath...

We are not a tennis nation, we need all the advertising we can get!

Maybe the French will take this tie for granted and their best players won't bother to play either.
Like against Austria.

event tickets will most likely be very expensive (we sell you west coast smoke an mirrors) and they'll end up with half empty stands. anyway it'll be great to watch jo and gael should they decide to play.

Honestly, i expected some better trashtalking than that.
Something like "eh guys,it's the sport number 2-3 in your country and yet, your players haven't won a GS for almost 30 years whereas minnows tennis countries like Serbia,Swizerland or Czech managed to do that"

Some people obviously don't know what trash talking is. Those statements were lame and harmless.
