Will Murray be the next new slam champion or somebody new win slam sooner?

Do you think Murray will win his first slam sooner than another players without slam? If you think Murray will never win a slam than give No. So next new winner will be Murray? or do you believe guys like Tsonga, Berdych, Soderling, Tomic will win it sooner than Andy?

He will be the next first time winner. I'm not sure he can win the next slam tho.

I havent seen that Murray since the USO 2008 however. He played aggressive but Nadal was dead there from the olympics, and then we know what happened in the finals. I guess Murray forgot there was one.

As long as the top 3 is around Murray won't win a slam. And by the time Nadal and Fed, Nole hang it up, Murray may be too old and new threats will have emerged

Realistically its between Murray, Tsonga, Berdych, and Soderling. Maybe Ferrer. I don't see anyone else that has a realistic shot.

Really depends on the draw and who happens to get hot.

Last year at this time, most everyone was calling Djokivic a one slam wonder. Who knew "super joker" was just being born?

this is a good point Saberq makes. you can always say 'what if' a player plays at the absolute maximum potential suddenly but it's not likely to happen. times change. players decline. the big difference is Murray has not really declined just is missing that little extra bit of something that he has had at moments.

anything is possible though, his game is certainly looking good of late. it's just strange with him though. he has beaten all of the best players so that can't be the problem, that is, belief. what is with him? maybe he just cannot last or maintain intensity in a best of 5 match. that is the only real problem i can conjure. he may strictly be a great best of 3 player. he's a great player regardless, but if he can't do his best for 5 whole sets then he'll never make it to the heights that he should. what the big question is, would be why can't he?? he is fit, he has the game, he has a fairly decent head on his shoulders.

it is so mysterious.

but as for the original question, I think it's something like 50/50. I am certain Murray will win a Grand Slam title but when putting odds on him or another player out of the whole field winning their first Grand Slam it's quite hard to guess or entertain what could happen because it's so wide open.

I think Murray has improved his game up a notch within the last few tournaments. The Bagel against nadal was quite important for his confidence as Nadal was the goose around his neck. He has atleast taken that goose onto his hands and now he has to go for the final push and throw it. Once he beats nadal in a GS then i think he will be on his way to collect more than 1 GS.

his final tally might be 3 or 4. maybe even more. But he is surely winning a Grand Slam.

Great thread Romi. And i like a fan of Murray hope, that he will win sooner than other players without grandslams. Tsonga, Berdych and Soderling are great players, but they are missing something special and Tomic have a time, he will wait few years. I´m maybe too optimistic, when i say Andy will win grandslam next year. His talent and game are unbelievable, his mental strenght isn´t so strong like at Djokovic, Nadal or Federer, but one achievment can change it. Djoker´s help was Davis Cup, Andy´s help can be World Tour Finals at home. Come on Andy!

Andy needs to bring back that flat backhand dtl at critical points and to end long rallies he's dominating to help towards his goals next year. Too many times do I see him in strong positions on the court, even getting short balls onto his backhand, just to allow his opponent to wrestle back the initiative, due to him not hitting the one big shot he looked most comfortable doing earlier in his career. Now it's rare and usually not committed to or hit hard enough.

I used to call the backhand dtl his signiture shot.. now he doesn't really have one. Defensive baseliner or not, you need one big shot to win a slam, and that's what he'll need to bring back to win a slam in 2012.

No-one will win a slam until all of Nadal, Djokovic and Federer have retired. If 1 has retired the other 2 will divide the slams between them. If 2 have retired, the remaining one will mop them all up.

If all 3 have retired, still, no-one will ever win any slams again.

We'll have clocked Tennis once Nadal, Federer and Djokovic have won all the slams and have retired. 100% completion. Game over.

Until Murray wins his FIRST SLAM its pointless to argue he will be the next slam winner.. You may as well just throw the rest of the top 8's name in the hat.. They are slamless to. He gets too frustrated on the big stage.. Hes shown to be mentally soft.. Until he fix those problems, I don't see how his chances are greater then any of the rest of the slamless guys

Are you retarded?

No-one DESERVES a slam except those who have won one before.

For the next decade I don't see anyone winning a slam who hasn't won one before. Once you win a slam, you have an unbeatable aura and players will regularly bend for you thus you can progress to finals without breaking a sweat.

No-one will ever win a slam apart from Nadal, Djokovic and Federer.

For Chrissakes will people stop giving Murray the 'he mentally collapses' excuse for him not performing at slam finals.

Why does he not win slam finals? Because his game sucks, his movement is below the top 3, and he doesn't have a single weapon in his arsenal.

Nothing to do with mental strength.

People compare as a male version of Wozniacki but I think that's terribly unfair, because Wozniacki actually reached the number one spot in her given sport. She also has a better 2nd serve.
