Who is the biggest choker on tour at the moment?

Now that Mathieu has been out for a long time there is no undisputed number one anymore, time to pick one.

I'm going for my main man Haase, he has earned it with his countless disgraceful chokes this year.

Hard to fish a single name in the sea of chokers.

Look at him, he's taken choking and made it into a work of art.

Verdasco and Tipsarevic have had some pretty spectacular chokes.

No surprise that two of their most hilarious chokes have come when they played each other.

Troicki.

Haase, followed closely by Troicki.

Haase, the guy cannot even hit a smash to save his life.

Then again Troicki is the type of person that can be up 5-4 40-0 on serve after winning two sets at a slam tournament, and still figure out a way to choke it (more like "fix" it).

Yes, Troicki, NID. Against Monfils in Summer  Or US Open   Etc... poor guy has such a lot.

Verdasco, Tipsarevic and Haase are huge chokers too indeed.

Yeah, but all of the players on the list are chockers. Maybe Giraldo or Petzschner should have been replaced by Troicki on the poll.

I don't think Tipsarevic 2.0 is a choker anymore.

I'm not even sure if Troicki is a big choker, he's just a terrible player.

Haase's choke vs Murray was first class at the Open.

Nah, he's a hell of a choker. His confidence level is evident by the fact that he can't even man up to play Davis Cup and has an injured player go instead of him.

That was brilliant, but just usual Troicki. Haase has done something more memorable.

Haase was leading 6-0 *4-1. Then he blew 4 MP's on his serve when up 5-4 in the second set. He led 5-3 in the final set and found a way to squander that.

A meltdown of epic proportions for Robin Haase. At one point the odds of Nishikori winning were 170-1 at betfair.

Just a little quote from the Haase-Nishikori match in Shanghai

Stupid thing to say about Federer, but the USO choke was one of the biggest this season

Had Berdych lost to Murray last week after having match points he would have easily won my vote after that match alone. Unbelievable choking, not even Troicki goes to those limits.

Hewitt has become a pretty reliable choker in recent years. Double faulting and hitting routine groundstrokes into the net on key points has become very common. Was leading with breaks in key sets against Nalbandian and Wawrinka in his two toughest losses this year. Wouldn't call the five set loss against Soderling a choke, he just ran out of steam - yeah, against a guy with a serious ailment. He wouldn't be the biggest choker on the tour, but when considering his displays of mental toughness in the past, it's pretty amazing to see at times. It's most likely got a lot to do with a lack of match practice though.

This year, Haase has stood out for me. Troicki's match with Murray obviously comes to mind too. Don't know who, statistically, has lost most matches from winning positions (up a break in potentially decisive set) though.

Troicki by far.
Why he isn't in the pool?

Troicki. He was up 2 sets to 1 on Falla (who knows a bit about choking) at the US Open He nearly choked away a match in Davis Cup against Rohan Bopanna - yes, of Indo-Pak Express, not a singles player!

Of those on the list, Haase. The Nishikori match scoreline was insane but the Murray match will stay in highlight reels for How To Magnificantly Choke.

The kings of choking Falla and Kendrick would win, however one has a ban and the other one didn´t do any significant stuff lately to be fair...I would say Bellucci is the most profilic one at this moment.

Petzschner's loss in Paris to wild card Carsten Ball (6-3 7-6(4) 2-6 5-7 7-9) follows losses at the 2010 Australian Open to Florian Mayer (6-0 6-2 4-6 2-6 2-6) and the 2009 US Open to Juan Carlos Ferrero (6-1 6-3 4-6 2-6 4-6).

you don't "vote" for a King. ;) He is crowned by divine right. Troicki has the title; we're just voting on second place now. :p

Almagro doesn't belong on the list. Doesn't he have like 10 titles? chokers don't go into double digit titles. A choker would work many years to even get a 250.

Like Troicki and Tipsy.

They didn't play in Tokyo doubles together by accident ;) It was after they both suffered 5-set defeats to Murray leading two sets to love.

http://www.menstennisforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=249882&d=1321354292

Let's compare them statistically in 2011:

Haase:

5-setters: 1-2
Tie-breaks: 12-18 (.400)
TB’s in deciding set: 1-3
MP matches: 0-3 (wasted 5 match points in total)

Troicki:

5-setters: 1-2
Tie-breaks: 9-12 (.428)
TB’s in deciding set: 1-1
MP matches: 0-3 (wasted 7 match points in total)

It looks similarly, Troicki won one dramatic match this year (Bolgomolov), Haase two (Cuevas, Marchenko).
Troicki is much more worse given the last two seasons, he also last year lost 3 matches wasting a match point whilst Haase none (won two, one in a Challenger, one in ATP qualies).

Troicki has an awful m.p. record on the main tour overall (1-9 ), Haase 2-3. The former has played 102 tournaments, the latter 62.

Say Hey Kid:
Haase was leading 6-0 *4-1. Then he blew 4 MP's on his serve when up 5-4 in the second set. He led 5-3 in the final set and found a way to squander that.

It was 1 MP not 4

Nah... Almagro has famous matches too, against Nadal in Paris few years ago, he served for the match and had 40-0 if I remember well.. This year wasn't clear for him neither, if you remember about Roland Garros (lost to Kubot) and Rome (lost to Soderling).. that two match was ridiculous.

And I totally disagree with your posts, Tipsy won two title in this autumn only, bad call.
