Too much GOATness.

Far too good for a nervy, exhausted Tsonga.

18th Masters win, first Masters since Cinci 2010, first Paris title.

Clearly meant a lot to him as well. Never won here before and it's the first big title of the season for him. He's bound to have his doubts about where his game is at compared to the other top guys and he'll look back on this win for confidence I think, like he has done with last year's WTF.

CONGRATS, ROG!!! :hatoff: :worship:

Far from as good as he was yesterday, but plenty enough magic to get the job done. Fed was whiping the floor with Tsonga in the 1st set, but as expected, Tsonga came back very fiercely at the start of the second, and for a long time it looked to me as that Tsonga had the upper hand in that 2nd set, serving out of a tree and giving it his all. He should have taken advantage of Roger's poor serving midway that set but somehow failed because of overcooking a lot of his shots. At the tail end of the set Roger's 1st serve came back and what a difference does that make...

I expected a tight TB and whoever to win it to win the match. Well that last part of the sentence came true, but ewww, how Tsonga fell apart in that TB. :help:
Still a great week for him and a well-deserved #6 in the ATP rankings now. :yeah:

But if Andy Murray was said to win Shanghai only because he did not have to face the top players, then it has to be noted that Roger did not have to face anybody ranked higher than #7 here. Same logic applies.

Federer is simply one of the fittest and economical players on the tour. While Nadal has already exhausted himself by the end of the summer, Federer is still going strong. Let's face it, despite not making too many finals, Federer has been very consistent throughout the year, while the other top players experienced a dip at some time of the year (Murray even more than one). Harvest time for Roger now. :)

Yes!!! Congrats Federer! He has finally won Paris Masters, and is only the second person to win both the FO and this tournament. The guy seems to be breaking records every time he steps on the court. :) 18 Masters and 69 titles not bad Roger, not bad. ;)

Federer was simply too good in the first set, and then in the second set his serve went away, and that allowed Tsonga to make the match interesting. But after 4-5, Federer just stepped up his game and was hitting winner after winner till the end of the TB. Good tournament from Tsonga though.

Now please win the MC Federer :)

How many guys look good when they have to play a 3 hour plus match less then 24 hour before that at a masters event.? Not very many EVER. Thats what always made the USO sucked.. Alot of the finals matches were determined just based on who had the tougher match against the tougher opponent the day before and the finals results would be based on that as well. The loser would be forced to show up extra fatigued. Results should be based on what happened that day IMO.. Instead of what happened the day before

Gasquet won against him this season, not to mention Berdych and Tsonga.

Roger can't be blamed for the fact that Rafa didn't play the tournament, Novak withdraw and Murray lost in the QF. Roger doesn't have to prove anymore that he can beat players indoors ;)

It's great to see that the break he took since the DC in Australia paid off for him. Some people might criticize him for being lazy but Roger knows his body the best.

Congrats to him for finally winning this title and thanks for the beautiful tennis we got to see in the last 2 tournaments :)

You gotta laugh when people bring the fitness card when Roger is the older guy out there. The great thing about the fitness card is that you can always find a way to turn it against Fed!

Examples:

- Fed beats Agassi- sure, he is younger and fitter
- Fed beats Nadal- sure, Nadal was tired
- Fed beats Nole- nid, Novak was dead
- Fed beats Tsonga- what did you expect, Tsonga was tired

Then Fed loses

- Sure, this guy can't cope with today's athletes who work much harder than this ballerina. Fed is just a lazy arrogant bastard that doesn't work as hard on his fitness, while spartans like Novak and Nadal work really hard.
- He is becoming and old fart, can't sustain his level for much longer due to poor stamina.

Forward to the last MS tournament of the year. Spartans are all around licking their wounds. The ballerina is dancing away to a title, beating younger players. And we should all feel bad for the young spartans because, in the end, they are poor little kids that doesn't have the same luck Rog has ... LOOOOOL

Paris was just like those girls that are hard to get. A lot of back and forth flirting going around, but when it was time to seal the deal she would just give you the cold shoulder. And when you finally let her go, she comes at you and says "now I want you". LOL.

I've been dreaming of a Basel-Paris double for almost ten years now, after last year's disaster I thought it was destined never to happen, now he gets it aged 30. This was probably his last chance too, bearing in mind the brilliant decision to move London back to a day after Paris from next year - I hope the ATP are happy when Almagro is the no. 1 seed in Bercy.

Federer joins Nalbandian as the two active players with the complete set of big indoor titles. Nice to have both Parises as well, especially as this is only his third title on French soil (the first being Marseille way back in 2003).

Roger has played well at the end of the year for 2 years now. Wow. Why couldn't he play this well at Wimbledon when up 2 sets :(

It is just getting tougher for him to be mentally and physically fit for 7 best of 5 set matches in a row. Wimbledon has now become a mental nightmare as you can tell that it is the one title he really wants to regain despite his superiority on the surface and the other slams have been just a bit too difficult to capture with Djokovic being too solid on HCs this year and Nadal of course being too good for Federer on clay.

Federer has played two very solid weeks of tennis, and he is in great shape to try to defend his Master's title. Hopefully he doesn't appear mentally exhausted during the Australian Open 2012 like he somewhat did this year. He has to try to learn how to peak for the right tournaments like he did in his best years. His problem since about 2008 is his ability to peak and play his best matches in the semifinals/finals of the slams. He did it well at the French Open this year, but that is his worst surface and he faced his worst opponent at the end. I think he'll be able to pick up one slam title next year.

it will give him momentum, not guarantee he will start 2012 the same way, what he does with said momentum is up to him

however Federer has proven time and time throughout his career he doesn't need momentum to have good results, for instance he had no momentum coming to Basel after long weeks of rest and here he stands undefeated, also he's capable of playing his best and upsetting the best players in the world without momentum either like he did in RG, so it's not like he needed this run, but it's a nice bonus to have

Great to see Federer and Tsonga get along very well together.

:spit: yeah... always great to see isn't it... yeah... cos, if he lost this you just know federer is gonna be out the back havin a spew, then havin a f*cken cry about it on national tv, then donning the wifebeater and giving poor old mirka the what-for..

idiot post... wake up...

The word "hater" is thrown around so much on MTF these days that it has really lost its meaning. But LawrenceOfTennis is really the true definition of a hater. Impressive stuff.

LawrenceOfTennis' father is his brother...

Exactly. That record is Rafa's for a while already now.
Strange to still hear commentators yapping about "Agassi's record".

that's because rafa's record has a '**' beside it...

agassi's only has a '*'

hope this helps...

Shit I hope Fed would win... His semis and finals matches consisted of players who just played 3 plus hour matches the in less then 24 hours just before that.. Basel it was mugs... Paris is it was gassed opponents.. Thus why matches should be played every other day.. Matches shouldn't be determined based on who finished their opponent quicker the round before IMO. THats what I always hated about the USO.

you need to know that it's the fact that you truly believe the sh!t you talk that makes you appear mentally handicapped...

sorry about that...

tsonga's backhand needs immediate repair. he isnt going anywhere with it now.

:spit: you can't repair that...

looks like two stray dogs laid a few steaming cables on a piece of metal and they called it a trophy...

also of note: federer's left arm was raised in ethiopia...

This was probably his last chance too, bearing in mind the brilliant decision to move London back to a day after Paris from next year - I hope the ATP are happy when Almagro is the no. 1 seed in Bercy.

this will come to pass...

he should be the favorite for WTF.

tsonga could have done much more here, thats the truth. He should've made that challenge in the very first game, and served more to Rog's backhand in that set.

Roger was talking about this in French during his post-match interview. Along with some very cute giggles. :) Twin Fatherer :hearts:

I only hate their fans. Hate the avatars, hate the posts, hate gloryhunting, hate this arrogant attitude. Most of them are fat girls eating chips and posting crap like they'd know shit about tennis or it's history. Seriously, look at the livescoring thread posts, when Fed missed a shot all of them were sending him home calling him fedmug and then were cheering big time. What is this if not gloryhunting big time?

Wow chillax dude. It's only a fucking forum.

Too much GOATness.

Far too good for a nervy, exhausted Tsonga.

18th Masters win, first Masters since Cinci 2010, first Paris title.

Fed is a great player, the win was expected. He's shown his incredible talent and immaculate technique, and, may be, and above all, his exquisite athleticism and stamina. Even though I root for Nole (only to be expected by a Serb), I believe that Nole will *never* reach Fed's heights. For me, Fed's even now, at 30, the goat. Too bad he can't cope with Nadal (probably his only real Nemesis). Naturally, by saying this, I don't want to take anything away from Nole's superb 2011.

Congrats to Fed, once more, he was impressive throughout the weeks.

What a great start for my week off! Roger finally wins Paris MS. This city was hard to conquer! Anyway, who was the last guy to win both the FO and Bercy?! Agassi?!!!

Paris was just like those girls that are hard to get. A lot of back and forth flirting going around, but when it was time to seal the deal she would just give you the cold shoulder. And when you finally let her go, she comes at you and says "now I want you". LOL.Also the only one. I mean, before Fed won it today.

That obviously the underrented one is superior to both. :rocker2:

The aura lovin ali wanna being no GrandSlam clown got beat by a pathetic old ballerina

Tennis died today

Rafa & Nole have to get healthy to stop this abomination from winning anymore.

2011 was still a year for the heores. No ballerina GrandSlams.

Fresherer defeats Tsired in 2, as I thought. I wonder how Fed will avoid non-exhausted opponents at the WTF- I guess, where there's a will, there's a way.

More toys chucked out of prams here than my local nursery.

The head 2 head is 7-2 in Roger's favour. It's a fact. :wavey:

How many guys look good when they have to play a 3 hour plus match less then 24 hour before that at a masters event.? Not very many EVER. Thats what always made the USO sucked.. Alot of the finals matches were determined just based on who had the tougher match against the tougher opponent the day before and the finals results would be based on that as well. The loser would be forced to show up extra fatigued. Results should be based on what happened that day IMO.. Instead of what happened the day before

Didn't Djokovic beat Nadal in the Rome final this year after a very long SF against Murray?

This year? When he's 0-3 against Rafa and 1-4 against Nole. I was not counting all those titles he had over the likes of Roddick in his prime. At this point though you have to just take what you can get and just hope for injuries like all the fedtards did for year at roland garros. All great players in their later years often take opportunities of winning titles when other better at the time players have either lost or are not fit.

Sampras did it at the US Open 2002 when Agassi beat Hewitt in the semi-final. If Hewitt had reached the US Open 2002 he would almost certainly have beaten Sampras, but he did not beat Agassi and was not in the final. There is nothing wrong with winning an event when a nemesis has lost.

A tournament win is a tournament win.

Congrats Fed and his fans, but you shouldn't play "GOAT card" after winning muggy tournament, where top 3 players in the world doesn't bother to win or even show up at all. And final was very low quality as well, How many BH ue's did Tsonga do? 20 or so... I respect Fed for all he achieved, but really hate when people after meaningless victory acts like at the top of the world. The truth is Federrer never again gonna win another tournament where he will have to face higher ranked player (healthy). At least i think so...

I agree that he is GOAT result wise, but that doesn't mean there never was/is better tennis player than him. There are a lot of details that effect results, such as your stated health, also matchups. In ten years people will not remember that this "record breaking" Paris title was almost gifted...

For crying out loud, no one is seriously saying this is a record-breaking year at all. It was a poor year for Federer, but at aged 30 it wasn't too bad at all.

And the GOAT debate is fucking over, he is the best Tennis player that ever was. If you want to debate GOAT go debate by yourself in another thread.
