h2h 5-3 in olderer's favour. this will be the sixth time they meet in this season

third frenchman oldderer faces in this tourney. federer has been defeated by frenchies in the past 2 editions of paris AMS.

If this was played in last year's conditions, I would give Tsonga a slight chance. No way he's gonna hurt Federer on this type of surface, since he's a terrible returner.

Yeah, Tsonga beat him on hard (twice) and grass.:o Not sure if today's match will help Fed, or the indoors condition, but Federer better win.:o Anything less than a win will be considered a choke from him.:o

No he dosen't. Fed is up 3-2.
I really don't think Tsonga is in form. He had to beat GGL, SEppi and Isner to reach the final. One of the eassiest path to a master final in recent times. But then again Fed might play the same way he did against Monaco so... I hope Fed in 2.

Tsonga has a winning record against Federer this year.

So did Berdych before today. And last year before Toronto.Doesnt say much at all.

In last 2 years Fed won 29 indoor matches and lost only 1 , to Monfils last year in Paris .And even then he choked away 5-1 lead which happened to him maybe 3 times in career, this already happened against Tsonga also, I dont think he wants to repeat this embarrassment.

Tsonga on the other hand lost indoors to Söderling, Youzhny and Sam Querrey in 2011, last year he lost to Benneteau, Greul, Troicki and Monfils. He is a good indoor player, but Federer is in different league even now, when his dominance on all other surfaces is gone.

Some people will be on Fed's side? Some? :haha:

Wait and see. Today they were singing the Marseillese, waving French flags, chanting Tsonga's name to the rhythm of drums, cheering every mistake John made, applauding ecstatically every single point won by Jo, dancing, jumping up and down.

Tomorrow it won't be the same. Jo will be lucky to get as much support as Fed. I don't think even that's going to happen, but I hope I'm wrong. I really do.

Tsonga is at home. He should get more support than his opponent... or at least the same.

Ask Monfils how much support he got last year. I actually cried for him.

Different years, different crowds. Let's wait and see.

Federer's speciality is capatilizing on the absence or injuries of the top players and winning tournamnets he could not win in his prime. Especially in Paris. :yeah:

This is my exact thought, but I'd go for the former, he is'nt called clownga for nothing... One week he'll beat a top player with ease, the next he'll be dodgey against a rookie. Vintage clownga mania ! The hits will rack up when you don't expect them, then when he builds up some momentum - BANG ! the miss comes against someone who is half the quality of player he has been beating - bye bye money

Maybe better training management and schedule organisation has resulted in Federer having fewer injuries which is a measure of skill on his part and not as much on luck. His previous victory in Paris could certainly be seen as a reward for this aspect.

Pessimism from Fed fans.. there's a contradiction there somewhere. You'd think after all he'd achieved and continues to achieve his fans would be relaxed and savour all the time he has left. You'd think wrong. A fans work is never done.
