if this match goes on youtube and says fed from 04-07 I wouldn't have questioned it. He looked amazing. I pointed out his movement at basel but others were skeptical based on opponents he had played. His forehand was ridiculous. He was returning berdych first serve and destroying berd's second. I still thought that night match at the us open vs monaco where fed bageled and breaksticked him was a great match of domination from feds end. Due to the top 5 opponenet this takes the cake.

Look like fed has dropped a little weight from the tummy. At least 5-6 pounds and maybe added some muscle to his legs. I believe he had one his 2-3 week trainings during his break before basel.

Would have been fun with Berdych in the final but Federer has just been too good during the indoor season. Unlike some other career slam winners who can't play everywhere and in every condition Fed is the real deal.

There has never been a player that complete. And even if Paris wasn't slow as ass Federer might still have been in the final.

Berdych didn't play a great match yesterday against Murray. Today also wasn't his finest match, but it was enough to beat the form player of the moment yesterday, but today Federer utterly out played him.

It doesn't mean the title is his. Tsonga could be a big ask, and if Fed plays like against Monaco, then forget it. But I think he's hungry for it.
Anyway, common sense doesn't apply to certain individuals here.

All credit to Federer, he played great. Period. But, Berdych also made him look great. Berdych doesnt seem to know how to defend at all. Every time Fed made him run, he hit the ball hard back, but didn´t really do anything with it. If you´re pushed outside the court, you either take risks, or you hit a defensive shot. What you don´t do is hit the ball hard into the middle of the court, right into your opponents comfort zone and leave the whole court uncovered. Federer hit some great shots, but he got a lot of help from Berdych, as well. Totally brainless performance.

of course he doesn't look like an old guy after putting a performance like this, but how many times has he played like this all year?

EXACTLY. I've forgotten that he can play tennis like this. I'm too used to the shanked forehands/backhands and the missed first serves and losing after being up 2 sets, that kind of thing. Is it me or was this year the first time he's ever lost a grand slam match when up 2 sets - and he did it twice? Oh wait, yeah, that's right - he did. He's not getting old? Yeah freaking right.

Federer hit 3 winners in the first game (BH winner + BH volley + FH winner) to earn his first break.
And to be honest he had chances to break more often in this match, where Berdych saved with serve but otherwise it would have been 6-3 6-1.

Australian Open - R16 - Lost to Todd Martin, ranked 54
French Open - R64 - Lost to Galo Blanco, ranked 76
Wimbledon - R16 - Lost to ROGER FEDERER, ranked 15
US Open - F - lost to Lleyton Hewitt, ranked 6

No titles for the year, ranked 10

Federer - 2011

Australian Open - SF - Lost to Novak Djokovic, ranked 2
French Open - F - Lost to Rafael Nadal, ranked 1
Wimbledon - QF - Lost to Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, ranked 19
US Open - SF - Lost to Novak Djokovic, ranked 1

Fed goes perfect 10 - 0 indoors this season . Tsonga ( or Isner) has a little chance to ruin it, but only little. I think he is main fav to win WTF too. Too old back then, huh?

4 years later, doing better as an "old man". Thanks Federer for proving how dumb these guys are :p

If you look through the history of tennis all great players have been able to deliver great performances as they get older.

What becomes more significant is that concentration and focus are not as good as before, family and children become a distraction and the body does not recover as quickly and well on a day to day basis and sometimes sustaining an exceptional level for 5 sets physically becomes more difficult. Rosewall, Laver and Gonzalez from the past all had great days later in their career, but they were fewer than earlier in their careers.

Pete got the slam in his 30s and beat his rival to get it... Fed got...... Oh wait.. Well he got Basel beating A-GeriatricMuggick or gassed Birdshit or Mugaco.. A regular Algonquin round table of Mugs there

Pete couldn't win a tournament to save his life in the end while Roger is still playing at a good level. Like it's been said, he got a cake draw for his last slam. Give Fed the same kind of draw and he'll do the same. While I was a Sampras fan, to put him in the same league as Roger is laughable. But your man still has a couple of records over the GOAT like number of Wimbledon titles and overall weeks at #1, so you can still cherish those. While Sampras was okay as #1, he was nowhere near the ambassador that Federer has been for the game. Sampras was considered boring as hell while Fed is celebrated, so I can understand the bitterness. I would suggest you turning to the senior competition since your man is taking it very seriously.

What happened over the course of those years? Federer won less slams.

MIMIC has taken the argument to the Roger Federer Decline thread

Stick to talking about the match.

Sorry but to see SetSampras showing up only to insult Fed is bothersome. However, Fed played great, kept his cool under pressure and took advantage of his opportunities. If he would have brought this level at the slam, he probably would have won at least 1.

Almost impressive from Roger. Such a quick movement and hits. Amazing shots while sweet Tomas was too tired.
Well done Tom for reaching another SF of a Master!

Anyway, Federer won't stop surprising us and sets new records. The best ever tennis player on planet Earth.

I would suggest you turning to the senior competition since your man is taking it very seriously.

he is taking the Seniors more seriously that he did winning Roland Garros yet he was called to "GOAT" despite not making even 1 finals:tape:

keep it moving Itachi:shrug:;look at "old" ass Roger still making his 4th RG's final after having his Coupe Des Mousquetaires at 30 unlike Sampras :tape:

Anyone who wears a baseball cap indoors deserved to get schooled by the GOAT. Love how Roger neutralised Berdych today, showed him up for the 1 dimensional player he is. Who's average ground strokes speeds were faster? FedExpresses, moving Berdych all over.

These Fed fans are hilarious. When Fed loses in these tournaments, which he has all year, they don't matter. Now Paris is the 5th slam.
And he was JesusFed who would have beaten anyone today? Hardly. And apparently they've never seen Berdych play well before, even though he's beat Fed 3/4 most recent matches. Berdych, whether he was tired from long 3-setter yesterday, or suddenly disinterested in tennis, he wasn't playing well. 1st serve percentage well down and ground strokes soft and short. Fed played above his Monaco-Nieminen levels, but nothing special to cause Berdy to dump the first game of the second set, just watch Berdych dump into the net and butcher overheads.

the us open 2001 of sampras was a joke, patetic draw!!!

he had the lucky that agassi defeated hewitt , because if hewitt made final , he destroyed sampras like in 2001 final.

the 90s of sampras was overrated , his rival(agassi) in the best years of sampras was out of tennis and down of nº100 with personal problems and satured of tennis for 2 years , after 1993 courier was out too , becker`s peak was the 80s not 90s.

he played with piolines , moyas , ivanisevics, martins and others, good players but nothing more , nothing espectacular or special.

sampras won slams without faced top-30 or top-10......that is a strong era????please.....

He's already reached 6 of them...

He only needs 3 more, problem is they're on clay. BUT, I think he'll reach them all at some time or another. He's proven himself to be able to beat Nadal or Djokovic on clay. He just needs to keep up that form for the entire match, which he can do.

Correct if I am wrong Dani but when did Murray beat Nadal or Novak on clay?being close doesnt count unless you do it.....and Fed is also a better clay player than Andy plus Ferrer ect.....and yes he can reach all 3 finals

He's showed that he can. He was 2 point away against Djokovic and he was owning Nadal until his shoulder started hurting (the injection he took beforehand started to weaken) again. So, yes, he can reach all finals. Only a matter of time tbh.

Federer won't be around for much longer.
Ferrer will be far easier than Djokovic or Nadal, both Andy showed he can beat.

What a stunning performance by the GOAT! :) When Federer is moving and playing like that he is in a class of his own. It is such a shame that he can't pull it off more often nowadays. I hope he keeps it up for the final and the WTF. Tsonga is a dangerous player if Federer is not playing well, and he will have the crowd behind him. The last 2 players to defeat Federer at this tournament were french players, so we will see.

Also, this is Federer's 801 match win on the tour, and he has now reached all Masters finals. Impressive. :hatoff:
