Bercy QF: Berdych def. Murray 4-6 7-6 (5) 6-4

Both guys were pretty average. Berdych served for the 2nd set, somehow got through the TB.

3rd set was hilarious Murray at *4-4, down 0-40 Berdych chokes on 2 forehands then Murray double faults.

Great comedy match.

Close match, Berdych playing really well. Murray certainly had his chances- like a billion break points. I can't decide whether I'm most disappointed he let the ball change etc send him into an angry spiral in the third set, or in the lackadaisical performance in the second set tiebreak. Murray should have only been playing Berdych, not himself as well.

Could have gone either way. Close match.

Great to see a player that can hit through the infernally slow court. Some of Berdy's forehands were really punishing and Murray should be happy he even got the racket on them. Sadly Berdych missed just as much. Crowd got their monies worth so no complaints

Nadal at Wimbledon 2011 where he let one forehand miss allow him to completely disintegrate, Querrey the year before where SQ's choking let him off, Wawrinka at the USO, Fed in the AO third set? The guy's choked shitloads of big matches. It certainly isn't lack of ability.

Shall we just ignore all of the matches in which he has demonstrated mental toughness? Let's be honest, he isn't Nadal in the mental department. However, he also isn't Verdasco.

He has his ups and downs, but you can't ignore the number of times he has pulled through in tough matches.

Most of those being against the mental giants of Troicki, Haase and Melzer from two sets down.

Sure he beat Nadal twice in slams but that was down to his shotmaking just being on and his talent outplaying his opponent. He never faced a real hole in either.

Very up and down match, with both guys unable to take their opportunities - I think their BP conversions were something like 2/13 and 2/14!

Well played by Berdych for being able to hit through Murray's defense on this court, he had to hit from corner to corner before finishing off at the net on numerous occasions. Murray hit a few great passes, but largely didn't play the big points well and his FH was leaking errors especially near the end of the match, as well as in the 2nd set TB to gift the minibreak. Not to mention the DF at 30*-40 4-4...

Had a feeling Murray wasn't really dialled in for this tournament. He didn't serve well enough, nor take his opportunities. Don't think this affects him too adversely for the o2, would expect him to dismiss Berdy in 2 should they meet in London.

Really good match from Berdych in the second and third. Murray played well in the first and his level dropped considerably in the second and third. The end of the match was just full or random errors all over the place. With Djoko and Murray both out, I think the title is Federers. Although Berdych could do really well if he plays like he did today.

I knew Berdych could win if Murray played badly and he played well. That happened, so he won. Anyway, Murray >>> Berdych anyway and 2011 has been good. A quarter-final loss in one masters event doesn't do any harm to Andy. He has plenty of rest for this assault on WTF now.

this sounds like "nadal can only lose if not 100%" :haha: sour grapes

A player that makes less then 20 winners in 3+ hours has no business playing in a indoorHC event even if its played on Clay..

Yep- you, everyone, and their mother are going about how this is the slowest tournament that ever was, and criticizing Murray for not hitting enough winners on it. Yep, Murray, with the second highest winning percentage in indoor tournaments of all active players- he has no business playing indoor hardcourts... That contradictory statement has earned you a place on the wall of shame.

He should've won if he played well. He would've won if he played well. But he didn't, and he lost. End of story. Nothing special about this match. Murray was due a loss anyway. He's been the best player on the planet for the past few weeks, so this one loss doesn't mean ANYTHING. WTF is next week and Murray will be pumped for there.

Berdych the better player? You're having a laugh.

Best player entering some yeah! Nadal and Djokovic are still way better players when fully fit! Results this year prove that!

WHEN THE CATS AWAY THE MICE WILL PLAY!

I think the fact is on a court like this no way Berdych should have won  From the beginning he was practically having to hit corners only just to hit another ball after which should have been a winner. Really hope these 2 play again in London where the court is hopefully faster, should be far better than this.

Murray won everything in Asia def Ferrer twice :o and Nadull once and is the best player on the planet :o

Today he played a good HC player with a serve especially indoors and lost making less then 20 winners in 3 hours :wavey:

Actually Murray's top 10 wins this year is 3 times vs Ferrer once against an injured Nole who retired, Nadull in Tokyo, Roddick and Fish:spit:

Nice, aggressive play from Berdych for most of the match. Did he even miss a single smash? He did well coming forward today.

Shame that the courtspeed is changed compared to last year, but I've stopped acting surprised about it by now.

stupid question how do I put a picture next to my name ?

Go to your user CP, there is option "edit avatar". You can choose from standard avatars or make your own. To make your own, you have to upload photo which you like from your computer to this site :

http://www.shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar/

It is free.Website then resizes it to avatar, which you can download . Make sure your avatar is no more than 96x 96 pixels or less than 9.8 kB ( whichever is smaller). Avatar site gives you up to 200 pixels, but this is usually too large file for MTF, so you probably have to try several times to get file size less than 9.8 kB.
It sounds complicated, but is actually very easy and takes only few minutes.

I've been thinking for a while that Berdych would measure up well against Murray. Good to see. I hope he wins his second Paris indoor title this week.

Amazing stuff from Tomas after an epic choke in 2nd set. I'm so happy he make it through. Totally deserved win. Tomas, so proud of you man! A great match with some really beautiful points. Crowd loved it.

I'm on about post-Wimbledon Fed.

And Fed hated playing topspin clay court players on the surface, I mean Acasuso should have sent him packing in 09 long before he got the title. Look at the lesson big Felix gave him in Rome weeks before that Horna match.

For some strange reason, Murray never seems to bring his best tennis at Paris. We'll see a different Murray at WTF for sure. What's the point in Tomas playing his best match of the year beating Murray only to get trounced by Fed.

Murray wins a match..... struggles to make 3 pages. Murray loses a match..... haters come out in force.

Thought it was a poor match, Murray nowhere near his best (compared to previous matches) Will still do well in London though.

To be fair to me, Henman won this title on carpet, and Murray lost here on clay today (Henman's worst surface).

it,s a hard court you Mellon! Henman Reached a French Open Semi aswell and he was playing on a proper Clay Court not the one Murray was on this Year with those balls! Henman would of Reached a French Open Final with those Baletti balls! but he had normal tennis balls and a normal racket! not Murray,s black string racket! u MUG!

As for Murray, this match is insignificant. He'll be waiting in WTF, waiting to bagel Nadal a third time :wavey:
