Richie didn't play badly at all, specially in the second set but Roger was imperial at times.

What's wrong with Gasquet's FH, it actually looked great?

Federer was rock solid, I can't see him passing through Murray on this green clay though.

That was a genuine creaming.
Gasquet tried his best in that 2nd set but all of his efforts were to no avail. Can't say he played badly though - it was rather Feds who was sublime at the moments it mattered most.

I get the impression that Fed indeed wants to add Paris Bercy to his tally. Allez!

Couldn't see the match. But happy he shook away the blues from Rome. Now to shake Monaco.

some glimpses of legendary JesusFed in this, Gasquet had his purple patch where his forehand clicked and hit outright winners every other point, great offensive tennis all around, better luck next time Richie

When playing well Federer still has the most complete and best attacking game in current tennis. There are better defenders and movers with better backhands, but none attack as well as Federer.

At least,Nalbandian has won some big titles.
Gasquet has not even won an ATP 500, despite having made 2 MS finals in the first years of his career.
One of the biggest waste of talent of the open era and the perfect proof that despite all the talent in the world, you can't achieve much when you've got a junior fitness(30 years old Federer looked 100 times fitter than 25 years old Gasquet) and such a poor movement (even guys like Tsonga or Del Potro moves better than him)

Much of what you are saying is true.

On the physical side in relation to movement, balance, speed and fitness I am not sure he is that naturally gifted compared to many top players and it is the area that has prevented him together with a lack of mental toughness from fully utilising his racket and ball striking abilities and talent. Getting into the right place to hit the ball and being balanced when hitting the ball are where it goes wrong. On clay he has more time and that is where his 2 victories over Federer have occurred.

To a large extent this is where Djokovic and Murray have their main advantage over Gasquet. Federer of course is often underestimated in terms of court movement and balance which is still better than most although not as good as before in his golden period.

I've said it before but fitness and mental toughness are directly correlated in my opinion.;)
Why do you think the fittest players(Djoker,Nadal,Murray,Federer,Ferrer) are also the toughest ones mentally???

This was not Routinerer - Fed played a very clinical match to destroy Gasquet here.
Gasquet played some errors but also some good points. Fed didn't get too complacent except for the one game where Gasquet hit a nice return winner to break him.

Drugsquet was always overrated, I loved it when media proclaimed he was a "baby Federer" despite having shitty serve and forehand. His backhand is the only thing that is good about his game.

It's a stupid thing from the media to say for two reasons.

1. For what you originally said in your post

2. How the hell are their backhands even similar? Federer's one hander is not in the same quality as Gasquet's one hander. Yes sometimes Federer makes a nice flick or two and sometimes a down the line type shot, but his one hander is not among the elite of one handers, just because in this era there are a few one handers, people think Federer's one hander must be in the same exact class as Gasquet's.

Good to see Roger playing well. And some glimpses from Gasquet. I still think Murray is the favourite here, though, which is a shame as I'd love to see Fed winning the only big indoor tournament to elude him. It's unfortunate the 2 best indoor players are scheduled to meet in the semis.

Lol he does have short legs and a very lengthy upper body along with sloped shoulders so it does make him look weird and inproportion. But I believe how his body is built is the reason he's got a powerful backhand
