Future of Andy Roddick

Andy Roddick looks fat. looks unmotivated. Even His shoes looks like he in a park to Jog. I think he is just hanging in there to be a chair person for Players Association or something.

Even in his press conference he said He just wants the season to end.

With his loss to Murray today, his 2011 season is over! He got what he wished for.

Andy had dropped out of the Top 10 a few times before, but had always managed to get back up into the Top 10. The last time he dropped out however he hasn't been able to get back in so at that point I realized Andy's tennis future was behind him. I guess he is too busy with Brooklyn.

He's 29 and has been on a downward spiral the last couple of years. He doesn't have the talent to pull an Agassi. He's finished, meaning that he'll hang around the tour for two more years with ever poorer results and then retire at 31.

Whatever, he won a slam already.

That's all a tennis player has to do in life.

Even if the other Andy (the Murray one) got to the finals of the next consecutive 30 Grand Slams, and lost in each final - his career will look infinitely worse than A-Rod's.

Andy's one of a number of players who will be definitely looking to hit form in the summer of 2012 for the extended grass court season. After that, who knows?

I would love that. He will probably become an analyst in a year or 2. He is done as a player.

after he's done?

hmm. not sure, and Im usually pretty good at forecasting these things.

commenting - no. not the type.

he's shown some ambition in leading the players revolt vs the evil ITF/ATP, forming the players union, that kind of thing... was a bad judgement.

charity probably.

The one slam wonder does have a "gloomy" future for sure, not sure how long he's willing to take the punishment but as long as you have commentators like Patrick MacEnroe who continue to think he's going to do "wonders" in every match he plays, he will probably believe it a bit longer!

He can be a 12-20 player. He's not as bad as people here think he is, but he's also no longer a top 10 quality player unless he somehow can stop his decline and prove to himself and others he can beat a decent player again. He's shown he can beat everyone near and below his ranking but can't beat guys above him. His confidence is shot, so the end of this season is definitely welcome to A-Rod, and we'll see if he can start 2012 with a fresh mentality.

If I were monoduck, I would retire from tennis asap and spend the rest of my days, drinking beer and banging my hot wife.

But, of course, monoduck isn't as smart as I am, so he'll continue to mug around on the tour, making sure to extend that losing H2H against Olderer every time they meet :help:

I won't diss Roddick here, but if you want Roddick to continue to slip away. Root for Isner tomorrow. If he beats Tsonga, he'll end as the 3rd American this year

Man, feel bad for Andy. Always gets harsh comments written about him, yet he has achieved so much (more than that Scot Murray). He has had a successful career, and although he hasn't had consistent results since 2006, he still has had some memorable moments, wins and titles. 2011 was an unlucky year for him after having a great start to 2010. Given how passive his ground game is, but seeing how massive his serve still is, and probably will always be, I think he will have several deep runs in 2012 with maybe a few titles. In my opinion, still feels like he loves the game and wants to succeed so it is only a matter of getting his body and mind where he wants it to be.

Andy’s had a good career. It hasn’t been a great career, but that doesn’t make him a failure. He’s been in the top echelons of the game for the vast majority of the time he’s played tennis. There are few players who have managed that level of success. And frankly, probably no one posting on this board have managed that level of success.

I have in my mind that this or next year is his last on the tour, but I don’t know about his endorsement contracts, and I’m sure that will play a part in his decision on retiring. He was ready to hang it up a few years ago, and got reenergized and put in new effort. So, I kind of feel that he milked the best out of the last couple of years, and maybe he does too.

There is no future in tennis for Roddick anymore. He should save himself further embarassment and just retire now.

11-12-2011, 05:09 PM
On that reasoning, maybe we should all just kill ourselves now and save ourselves from being embarrassed in the future.

Certainly I know I’ll have failures and make mistakes, but that’s no reason to quit anything. Ever.

Because of too much hype and expectations (plus that Federer thing happened), he has underachieved. But he has had a very nice career. Plus, I think he's a decent guy.

He could be a runway model/ acting or TV commercial. Or, he could be union leader for tennis players. :worship:

You're exaggerating to what I said. How is my reasoning like that? I said there's no future for him in tennis. Therefore, he should quit. I didn't say he didn't have a future or that we should kill ourselves. What were you thinking when you posted that? Did you even read my post? Read them properly in future, please.

Amen to that! Caroline Wozniacki, Sam Stosur & Melanie Oudin are the players hated the most on the WTA board - & for no reason I might add! Don't understand all the nasty comments towards Andy.

I really like Andy & he might not be at the very top but he still is a good player. If he says he cannot wait for the season to end then he is talking about 2011. He will come back fighting in 2012 & have some good results I'm sure. As long as he wants to continue playing who are we to begrudge him that?

He must be happy with his results & he will know when to stop. And where is Andy fat please?!? Have you ever seen a fat person?!? Get a grip, people!!!

Andy Roddick finishes the year as the 2nd American by the skin of his teeth. 3 MP (on Tsonga's serve) and he would've been behing Isner to stay

When you gobble up umpires for having the nerve to be an umpire that would actually enforce rules upon you, and crap on any sort of humility one could have, without giving any impression that you have respect for anyone but yourself, you're likely to gain a large amount of criticism.

Not that I'm saying I agree, but when comparing him to other players who get the brunt of the insults, it's obvious where it comes from. Yeah, he's perceived to be real and doesn't mince his words and let's the world know how he feels.. it turns out the world would rather not know, or rather find it entertaining to laugh at the sideshow.

Now it looks like he's declining, he will not only look fat, he'll look old, he'll look slow, he'll look bald, he'll look like Brooklyn Decker's sugar daddy. That's a normal reaction. If you told a fan who has been in a coma for 15 years that he's 21 years old and new on the tour, they'd say he has a broad build, quite mature for his age, energetic and.. bald. Still bald.

I find Roddick relatively entertaining as a person.

His negative hack game is the thing that makes me overly negative about him, it's vile.

He has no future in top level tennis, he can continue to feast on choking mugs for a year or two if he wants though.
