Not exactly thrilling baseline tennis, this match. That reverse BH DTL at the end of the first set from Djokovic was pretty badass though.

To be honest, I'm sure he is carrying some niggling injuries at the moment. Maybe some tendonitis in his shoulder or something. It's just easier to play through that in the finals or semis of a slam...but at this point in the season, I'm sure he's running on fumes. The only thing keeping out there right now is respect for the game and absolute drive to be the best.

Yes, you got him there. He faked an injury while leading agg Nishikori because he predicted that bagel from mighty Kei (no disrespect). Plus he was obviously scared to face Roger.

How was his serve? Was there any pace on it?

It was solid, there was some pace but still far from his best. He was very aggressive on his service games which resulted in 90% first serve points won which is great. Also 60% won on second. No BP faced I think.

I think the theory is he took the bagel BECAUSE he faked the injury. You know, to keep up appearances and all that. It's all about the order of things with these criminal masterm- I mean tennis players. The second part just goes without saying.

incognito
11-09-2011, 04:11 PM
yes, he sure is hurting

honestly from the interview he gave after his loss to kei you would have thought he was seriously hurt and now he comes out and does this
Honestly, the idea that he was seriously hurt never crossed my mind and I doubt that it crossed Djokovic's either. My worry (and most probably Djokovic's too) was - and still is - that it might develop into something serious and impede his career long-term if he neglects it in the short-term. Of course he won't risk his career for some minor tournament/title. He even risked his lead in the US Open final in a similar way by basically just putting his serves into play in the 4th set and aggressively going for winners. The one big difference was that Nadal was spent in the 4th set and couldn't take advantage of this, while Nishikori in the 3rd set was still fresh like a daisy and therefore could take advantage of it.

Oh I wouldn't worry, I don't think any of those trolls with any integrity or intelligence believe the rubbish they post here. It's the same chant they use to deal with their personal pain. Spreading nasty rumours and making fun of an injured player is a way to counteract the pain and grief for the loss of their favorite.

Djokovic. Best. Tennis. Player. Ever.

Heart of a champion obviously to play through the numerous injuries he's had throughout his career. Federer just had to play his opponents...Djokovic has some kind of injury or ailment every time he steps on the court that he's got to battle on top of whoever he's playing.

Therefore, each victory Novak has should really count as two. Double the ATP points and prize money, I think would only be fair.

A bit unlikely, but not impossible. He only served at 50% today, which means his shoulder is still an issue.

But that's exactly what the haters are afraid of! If Novak wins this, he'll have 3 GS titles and 6 Masters. Which is to say 75% of all the big titles. Leaving 25% for the rest of the field.

but just from the way he spoke about it in the interview after the match with kei you really got the idea that it was bad and that he wouldnt be here

but here he is and he seems fine

if he is afraid it could turn into something worse then the smart thing to do would be to have pulled out of this event and seeing how things are for the YEC

He might have tanked (or just not given his best to beat Nishi) in Basel to be ready to go far in Paris and not to face Federer below optimal form. I can believe that.

Be will probably play Paris the same way, not pushing himself physically beyond a certain point. If this level is enough to beat a player, fine, if not, out he goes and waits for YEC, where he will probably raise the bar and hope it's enough.

This is rational behaviour. Whether its the right thing to do... I don't know, but with the brutal season he has had, I think people should cut him some slack.

this unfortunately.... Djokovic blatantly lied or exaggerated when he said afterwards of the Nishikori match that he doubsted he would EVEN be able to practice playing tennis for days :o ... let alone compete.

unfortunately his character is not the best in losing situations, and if he makes it far in this tournament it definitely shows that Novak makes mountains out of molehills or creates 'injuries' when losing a match.
