By nature animals eat other animals to survive. All carnivores and omnivores are born that way. Religious sacrifices are a human creation done to appease some god they themselves more than likely made up. Neither nature, nor necessary for survival, just forcing an animal to suffer for no reason.

McDonalds is a necessity, sacrificing is pointless - unless of course you send the remains to McDonalds.

You are aware that these Muslims eat the meat they sacrifice? They don't just sacrifice sheep meat and throw it away to rot.

Of course I was.

Well, no I wasn't. I was just saying things to make it sound like I knew something about religion. Sacrifice away. If I used smilies I'd put two thumbs up right here.

Ya know. For both sacrificing and normal eating purposes, it would be great if animals received painless injections or some other method of painless deaths. Apparently that's more expensive. Hm. I know praying before the slaughter makes people of certain religions satisfied, but that's no consolation for the animal. Woops I'm doing it again.

Well enjoy your Festival guys.

I get your point dude, but it totally depends on the person. Someone is harsh on animals, other one is not. That's not about being Muslim, Christian or atheist. :)

Muslims don't inject chemicals in animals because it makes the meat less organic. Found an interesting article comparing ritual butchery to captive bolt stunning.

In 1978, a study incorporating EEG (electroencephalograph) with electrodes surgically implanted on the skull of 17 sheep and 15 calves, and conducted by Wilhelm Schulze et al. at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Germany concluded that “the slaughter in the form of a ritual cut is, if carried out properly, painless in sheep and calves according to EEG recordings and the missing defensive actions” (of the animals) and that “For sheep, there were in part severe reactions both in bloodletting cut and the pain stimuli” when captive bolt stunning (CBS) was used. This study is cited by the German Constitutional Court in its permitting of ‘Dhabiha slaughtering’.

So it is effective as long as the butcher is vigilant and careful.
