Yoshihito Nishioka

Don't know much about the kid, but he's having a really impressive week. He's in the final of USA F28 without dropping a set. Beating experienced guys like Devilder and Obradovic easily. He'll play Jason Kubler in the final tomorrow.

Nishioka is barely 16 years old (born in Sept. 1995). So a futures final is allready a pretty good result.

Yes, I just noticed this as well. Pretty impressive go get there without losing a set (including beating Devilder etc). I saw he was an unranked qualifier and looked up his name on ITF tennis and found out he was only just 16. Hadn't heard of him before, maybe one to keep an eye on in future draws.

Wow that is some performance by a 16(barely) year old. Looks a real talent.

Nishioka, Nishikori. :D What does this "Nishi" part means? Do japanese names mean something? Kazakh names do (though I cannot say what my name mean, it's not clearly Kazakh, just partly, it was made of kazakh word "danalyk" which mean "wisdom", so "dana" in names means something like "wise")

It's from Junior Davis Cup.

By the way, asian tennis is definetely growing - world championship's final "ITF Junior Tennis Finals 2011" for 14 years was Korea vs Japan.

I watched these finals and was impressed by KANG KuKeon (Kor) and Jumpei Yamasaki (JPN), they were good.

Nishioka made the ATP rankings debut this week at #902. :)

"Nishi" in Kei's surname and Nishioka's surname are different.

In fact, Kei's surname is quite an uncommon one. It's written as 錦織 in kanji characters, and this surname is usually pronounced "Nishiki-ori," the first kanji 錦 is "nishiki" and the second one 織 is pronounced "ori."
But in Shimane, where Kei comes from, this surname is pronounced Nishikori.
If you show the name 錦織 to random Japanese people, most of them will say it's pronounced "NISHIKI-ORI."

"Nishi" in Nishioka's surname means "west." "Oka" is "hill." His name is written as 西岡 in Kanji characters. The first one is "Nishi" (west) and the second one is "oka" (hill).
This 西 (Nishi) appears in many surnames, such as Nishimura, Nishino, Nishida, Nishikawa, etc.

First appearence on Grand Slam and already in the MD. Did it fair and square without WC like others, Straight setted Ilhan and Zeballos and almost did it against Kokkinakis. 1 round against Lorenzi. Good luck and come on!

Awful scheduling from Yoshihito. Think he got a bit overconfident after his performances in Shanghai and the Asian Games.

He went to to Europe to play 3 tourneys - one 1 round of qualies in Vienna, didn't even make the cutoffs for Basel and now lost 1R in Geneva.

If I were him, I would've concentrated on getting direct entry to AO and play the Indian and Australian challengers. :(

I believe he'll be playing the Japanese challengers next...

03-08-2015, 05:38 AM
He qualified for Delray Beach and reached the quarterfinals, beating Sjisling and Matosevic. :D

Does anyone know where he's playing next?

Top 15 teenagers to watch out for on the WTA, ATP tours in 2015 (http://www.si.com/tennis/2015/03/10/teens-atp-wta-young-talent)

With Madison Keys turning 20-years-old earlier this month, it's time to take a look at the current crop of youngsters on the ATP and WTA Tours. From the top teens of Nick Kyrgios and Belinda Bencic to the more under-the-radar youth toiling away in the lower echelons of the tours, here are the names to know for the 2015 season.

Under the radar

Yoshihito Nishioka

Age: 19
Country: Japan
Current ranking: No. 147

The Japanese are very excited about Nishioka's prospects. Like Nishikori, he doesn't cut a towering figure but his speed and work ethic have separated him from the pack of Japanese prospects.
