if that the case the seedings will be like this:
1.roger
2.henman
3.agassi
4. safin or gaudio

safin is supposed to be better than gaudio on hard and fast courts so we are most liikely to get roger vs marat in the semis............... safin and agassi now REALLY have got their chances to make it to Houston TMC

Aren't they "fighting" for their no.2 position?

Black Adam
10-14-2004, 05:01 PM
the fight will continue in paris and houston............ they are likely to meet there but andy plays in stolkhom plus DC final whereas hewitt is only got two tournaments left this year......... so i think andy can get the advantage by winning stolkhom.

I doubt they are bothered about being number two, especially since one of them has finished top dog for each of the past three years.

What they should be worried about is the seeding for Melbourne of course, because number three could end up in the top half, which could damage their campaign for the AO title. Possibly.

That should be good motivation I believe.

I'm just surprised that they both withdrew from this suddenly? Wasn't Andy playing in some exhibition recently and he flew all the way to Bkk for a small tournament? Why then withdrew from this TMS???

Or of course we can just take Rogiman's reason for this decision that I don't understand ;)

Can i just ask, I'm pretty new to this forum but i've noticed that there's an unbelievably large amount of people that don't like roddick. personally he's one of my favourite players along with nadal and coria, not necessarily for the way they play but coz i like players that give 100% and have a bit of character and attitude. I find roddick great to watch even tho his game isn't the most exciting, i was just wondering what people's reasons were for not liking him. is it coz he's american?

I think they're each fighting to be no. 3 so they can bypass Rogi till the finals of the AO

EDIT: jtipson, just saw your post. I thikn they've internalized the drawbacks of being #2

You know, I think I'm a little bit offended by this post. I've been posting entry and withdrawal lists in the tournament threads for how long now? (Perhaps some people never leave the GM forum?) Were they ever wrong? Of course not, because those lists come from the the ATP, via the playerzone (which is the private system used by players and tournament officials to track tournament entries). And now everyone knows that I've just been copying the info over from the forums at Steve G, but hey, it saves y'all from going over there because those boards are very dry and there isn't a whole lot of conversation happening there. So, please read the threads in the Tournament forums if you want to know whose in and whose out, officially, and you can refrain from using the word 'rumour' when it is 'fact.'

Actually, I doubt fatboy fish would beat Henman. If Enqvist is playing this tournement, he would be tough for Henman in the 1st rd. Fish has a winning record on Henman, and he beat him in Madrid!

On current form, we could argue that Henman is obviously playing better, but Fish deat beat him in this very tournament, so I see no reason why he cant do it again.

Am I the only one who finds it extremly strange that he withdraws from MAdrid and play Stocholm open next week anyway, a much smaller tournament where no one in the top 5 will likely be (even with rumors of Andre which I hope will be true). Is he scared of these hard surface guys, you know Hewitt, Henman, Safin, Johansson, Agassi and above anyone else Federer? Against the rest of the top 5, he is loosing 19-4 and he isn't leading against any great hard court player (top 10 player).

Andy is great winning against bad players, but against the top guns he just isn't enought. So now I will probably have to see this guy go and win Stockholm open. If not Johansson can stop him...

Yea his win against Marat a couple weeks ago was awful  The head-to-head statistics against people like Lleyton and Andre lie, anyway, as many of their early wins were in Andy's first year on tour. But whatever, you think what you want :)

Anyway, I would not be surprised to see him pull out of both Stockholm and Paris, too, though he is still entered in them according to what his site posted today. But if you don't like him you shouldn't really care anyway :)

True, he could at least keep his injuries straight. I can just imagine the conversation going on with Brad: "Andy, you dumbass! We were saving the knee injury for Stockholm!"

Regardless, I think he's doing the right thing by not playing.

Ok, against Hewitt many were in the early days of his career, which shouldn't really matter as there is only 1 year between them and besides that Hewitt beat him infront of his home crowd!

But Agassi owns Roddick 2003 forward, Henman does it too (never faced young Roddick and leads 3-1). Those are really old players, but still manage to beat Roddick praticaly everytime they face each other. I shouldn't even have to mention Federer who destroys Roddick every year, in USA, in grand slams, in every surface (ok, Roddick is lucky enought to never have faced Fed on clay!), in any condition...

So, don't deny Roddick has a problem. I only rate his amazing victory against Nalbandian high. Safin and Johansson are close amtches, but Roddick most often looses close matches against good players...

Roddick will have alot to prrof before even beeing called the 2nd best tennis player in the world, like beating Hewitt in an important match (GS semifinals, master series final). Hewitt has accomplished much more in his career, so I don't see why everyone are so obsessed about Roddick as Federer's closest competitor.

He'll get bageled anyway, it's his destiny to be the bitch!

If he wins a match, then it's like the winning the tournament. If you think he'll be as bad as Berasategui in 94, then you have another thing coming.

There are slightly more important things for Gaudio at the moment, than to play tennis at this time.

Ack Ferrero seeded 8? That says it all.:haha:
YES, glad you warned him, Rogiman. I'd like to know what is so funny about ferrero being seeded 7 now that gaudio has withdrawn. Ferrero is a quality player, regardless of injury status he deserves to be seeded highly, after all he is defending champion and will give the rest of the draw a run for their money, even though i see him losing in the 3rd round. IMO ferrero should be seeded 1, and we'll just see what you have to say when he wins the tennis masters cup and becomes world number 1 again. VAMOS JUANQUI

Is ferrero seeded 4 now?

No, he'll be seeded seven. The list below is the entry list based on the rankings from 30th August. Seeds are based on last available rankings (i.e. 11th October).

Tim can win this... what about Marat? or Juanqui? here's a wild one: Corretja!!! OK, Nadal then...

Now now, no need for sour grapes when you'll have to watch Henman win the event instead... I wish.

BTW, Federer may be out, but here's some compensation - Schalken, who was initially out for the rest of the year, is making his comeback in Madrid! Doesn't that make you all feel better? :D ;)

Actually Timbo is one of my favs, no sour grapes at all, and I seriously hope he wins it all, if it were really up to me I would hand him a calender-year Grand Slam... :tape:
However, he does seem to be the representative of all losers on earth.

Oh, and :yeah: for Schalken!

I know - and there's even more pressure on him now as the top seed. Sure, he's hardly a major attraction, but it'll make the tournament look like even more of a joke if the no. 1 seed gets dumped out early. He's lost to good players, Srichaphan and Fish, and has had chances in both matches - the former was when his daughter was about to be born, of course, and his mind wasn't on the job.

Oh, and :yeah: for Schalken!

Fair enough. Personally, now that he's won a TMS, I'd settle for just one oh-so elusive Grand Slam. Hell, one more title period. ;)

If Schalken hadn't been ill and had defended his points at the US Open he would be seeded in this field, that's how many players have dropped out.

and he's not had any warm up matches/tournaments on indoors, he has a bye so whoever he plays first will have a match, he'll need an easy, non-indoor specialist player..... if he gets any1 like canas, ljubicic, johansson, haas, he'll get stuffed :D

Sjengster
10-15-2004, 02:58 PM
That's right, Lurker! If Agassi wasn't playing I would feel quite happy since someone who deserved a TMS title and hasn't one won this year would win it (Henman, Safin, Nalbandian), or else someone completely unheralded would take the title. As it is, someone needs to take out Andre the Magnificent quickly.

That's the spirit Escude, thankfully you're not Henman's publicist.

srichaphan is QF-QF in two Madrid events and playing well, and novak is FINAL-R16 and playing very well too.... maybe one of these guys can win a TMS finally ;)

Sjengster
10-15-2004, 03:02 PM
Novak, yes! Make up for that final appearance two years ago when he couldn't even play because of injury. Srichaphan... if a man who has beaten two Top 30 players all year ends up winning his first TMS because of so many players withdrawing, I won't be best pleased. Still, anyone who wins three games off Indoor Monster Robby "Bubba" Ginepri is obviously not in peak form.

Sjengster
10-15-2004, 03:05 PM
Which is quite a good thing I suppose, the top three who have withdrawn are already confirmed for the event and now we get to see matches where something big is really on the line for all the main challengers. It could make the tennis much more dramatic and hard-fought. Safin, Nalbandian, don't blow this opportunity.

Corey Feldman
10-15-2004, 03:07 PM
Madrid seems very slow indoor courts, 2 finals have agassi-novak then ferrero-massu finals..... even El Aynaoui made the SF last year...
henman will struggle i believe, he's only ever been to the QF of indoor TMS twice his whole career! (2001 stuttgart qf, 2003 paris W)

RonE
10-15-2004, 03:13 PM
