Who is your fave argentinean player?

Hi everybody:wavey:

I'd like to know your opinion.

The one I've had the most fun watching this year has been Canas. His matches against Hewitt and Moya at Roland Garros are the two I most remember.

Also his Canadian Open run. I normally like anyone who beats Roddick ('cept Sampras) but his winning was just icing.

I just love watching him hustle around the court.
Too bad he couldn't play USO.

Zabaleta just because he is a very nice guy.

But Canas, for spanking Roddick in Toronto. Really though, he played beautifully in Toronto.

David is my second favourite player after Ferrero :D

Of course if he hadn't reached the Wimbledon finals, and bowed out in round one, I'm sure his numbers would be a little lower (I only saw him once before WImbledon on TV against Sebastian in Rome. But I didnt' start supporting him untill Wimbledon, so that includes me).

No, Becca, seriously. Imagine Davis Cup played based not on nationality background, but rather on ethnic background. What would we have?

As I said,

Agassi/Nalbandian/Sargsian for Armenia.
Sampras/Philippoussis for Greece..

That would be two major differences. What else?

Kafelnikov/Medvedev/Safin for Russia ( That would make us invinciblr on clay ). Or wait, should Safin play for Tatarstan? No, he shouldn't. There is no internationally recognized Tatarstan. So, it stands.

Right, Rusedski would still have to play for Canada, but with no decent teammate ( well, with all due respect, Lareau or Nestor are not such ones ).

OK, should we consider a possibility of Kuerten playing for Germany? That's interesting. Or Santoro playing for New Caledonia or anything like that? I don't know.

Any other ideas?

No, we , folks from former USSR have a habit of supporting all guys and gals from former Soviet republic. Nalbandian has an obvious Armenian descent, so that's why I support him.

Imagine Davis Cup played based not on nationality background, but rather on ethnic background
that would be unpractical for the Americas, as these continents population is greatly made out by immigrants from other continents, and if not, I don't know any outstanding Native- American tennis player, at least a ranked one...

The idea of Y_S is not too smart. look if i would be a good tennis player, and if i would follow the advice of y_s for what nation i should play? i have italian, spaniard, indian, and maybe even from another races blood:confused:
I am quite sure that Nalbandian has not only armenian blood but also maybe Italian, spaniard, english, german, jewish, etc. Maybe Lucasarg could give us that info.
i just know that i was born in Mexico, and i am mexican (and very proud of it) as David is argentinian.
btw and if i am not wrong, Monaco have asked in the past to David to change his nationality and to play representing the principality of Monaco;)

I though Canas would got more votes. He is the best argentinean player right now. Also last year he had the best year so far...

I like Guillermo Canas a lot because of his heart in the court, like Vilas. He plays good in hardcourts, carpet, clay, grass. HE IS THE BEST.:D

I gotta go with Canas.

I really enjoy watching him. Like what Lucas said, he can play on anything and he runs EVERYTHING down. Getting to the rd of 16 last year at Wimby was amazing. And of course in Toronto. They showed almost every one of his matches and after he beat Rogi in the 1st rd :( I thought he had better win the whole thing. And then he did. :)

Your idea is interesting to ponder, but gets complicated when you consider people with multiple ethnic backgrounds.

Hey, if I was a tennis players - I'd be torn between playing for Ireland, England, Canada, and a few other places i imagine ;)

Lucas Arg

Puerta is not in the poll. I also didn't put Gaston Etlis or Luciano Chamberlain cos' they are not very well known.

Anyway, Mariano Puerta was a great player a few years ago. I respect him as a player.

plus, Gumy if he's an Argentine, just 'cause he's so damn sexy

Lucas Arg
09-30-2002, 03:40 AM
Yes Mrs Guga, Hernan Gumy is also argentinean but he is not playing now, he is coaching. He works for Canas I guess.

Also Sergio Roitman is a good promise, and the junior Bryan Dabul;)

All our players are very sexy:p

Central

El mejor es Jose Luis "Tata" Clerc. Era así, ¿no? Lo vi en una exhibición en Rosario y estuvo genial.

On court, the best one is Cañas.
Off court, Mariano Zabaleta is a very nice person.

The player that I think is the "sexiest" on tour, isn't even the top 50.

So take that :p

I have a patriotic duty not to support the Argies most of the time, but if I had to pick a favourite:

Gaston Gaudio - nice to see a single-handed backhand for a change, and he had the decency to lose to Henman twice on clay but still do him a big favour in Indian Wells last year by taking out nearly everyone who could have beaten Tim en route to losing to him in the quarters.
Plus, he has good winning records against both Canas and Ferrero, which ain't an easy task.

My favorite Argentinian player this season is David Nalbandian, not to mention Guillermo Canas.

I had seen Nalbandian several tournaments and I like the way he hit the ball especially his match with Roger Federer in Federer's hometown last year. That is the time I appreciate his game and the rest of his game.

Both of them are on their young age, but definitely he has many more matches to come that someday he will capture a Grand Slam or a Tennis Masters Trophy.

The only thing, I hate him when he felt that he is loosing and he is not confident that he could still play that game, same like what happened to his match with Fabrice Santoro that he lost in 2nd set 6-0 in one of a Tennis Master series last year. Imagine, a Wimbledon finalist gave him a love set.

Anyway, he has still the power and strength to beat any Strong Players like Lleyton Hewit and the rest.

;) :bounce: ;)
