Congrats Muller on a good performance today whereas Gasquet who played alright but was a bit too passive on certain points also missed 5 break points, 3 of them when Muller served for the match!

Richard needs to get the fire and his heart back. Yet another match, where he just stayed negative, showed frustration when his opponent hits a good shot or good serve and just showed his hopelessness.
Richard can not hit the ball early and solid anymore. He can't hit a decent second serve return, he just forgot how to do that. I think he used to be able to.

Gasquet only won 3/11 points on his 2nd serve!

Tough loss but onto the next tournament now.... Beijing

Nice solid, aggressive play from Muller. Richard looked flat, passive and clueless most of the time - like his mind and game were still on clay in Spain against Nadal (resigned and helpless).

Unless Richard adpots a much more aggressive game and mindset, this fall indoor season is going to be

Know points aren't the most important but I do believe he now drops to at least #17 so back come the really tough draws for the 1000s, unless he performs a miracle in the next tournament.

http://www.welovetennis.fr/moselle-open/40048-gasquet-entre-frustrations-et-regrets

"He asked me lots of problems" analyzes the French at a news conference. "He served well, took the ball early and I was not able to install my game I was running out of time. I really wanted to win. I'm disappointed." Gasquet disappointed, but still sport "At 5-4, I have several opportunities to come back but every time he has spent the first ... It was a big game, really."

Nevertheless, these two close defeats in the face of server-breakers interloquent pace. Gasquet, he speaks first of difficulties in adapting to the indoor. "I miss playing in theaters. On this surface and in these conditions is difficult, especially when you have not played it." But also recognizes its problems facing this type of player: "It is true that it's hard when guys like this m'agressent, serving much more. It's difficult." Richard Gasquet so this leaves Open frustrated at not being able to show his true level. "I was on the verge of explosion on the court. But it's always like that when I lose. It is neither the first nor the last time it happens." With a peaceful mind and a rejuvenated elbow - "nothing dramatic" ensures Gasquet - the French will depart Tuesday for China. Program: ATP 500 in Beijing and the 1000 Shanghai Masters.

Expectations of others have been Richard's albatross since he turned pro.

He's an amazing shotmaker and occassionally has the game, mind and attitude to play a brilliant match but not (at least up to this point) consistently enough to be a solid top 10 player much less a GS winner. Your revised expectaions are much more realistic.

Maybe he's a late (really late) bloomer and his best years are still to come, if not I still enjoy the occassional magic and more frequent frustration of being a Gasquet fan.

Beijing, 28 Sept, 2011 –Nicknamed “Baby Federer,” French player, Richard Gasquet, has pulled out from China Open due to an elbow injury.

The tennis star made his debut in 2002 at the Tennis Masters Series at Monte Carlo at the age of 15.

Gasquet has been ranked No. 16 by the ATP since Sept. 26, 2011. His highest ranking in singles is No. 7 in 2008.

  Disappointing for him to miss Beijing, hopefully the injury is nothing serious, I thought it had improved but it looks like it didn't.

Thanks for the info, frankly, I feared that. It was obvious to see in Metz that he wasn't fully fit and only played to fulfil his obligation. That fifth rubber in Spain was defintely worth it.

Too bad that the second half of the season was spoiled by the ellbow. Sad as this withdrawal is, still better to withdraw than to carry on half injured and getting beaten.

Also when Richard was out injured this year he normally makes a successful comeback. Retired in Zagreb, he makes the Dubai SF and Indian Wells QF. He withdrew from Queens, makes the Wimbledon 4th round. :p

Agree on that, it's better to withdraw then carry on playing with the injury. Hopefully he's back for Shanghai! :)

And so was the first rubber  Wish Richard would be more selfish and pay more attention to his needs instead of DC or even his friends in Metz. But that's just the kind of guy he is.

Everyone including Richard, downplayed the elbow but NOW we know it was worse than reported. Guess I have to take back SOME (not all) of my negative posts about RIchard's poor attitude on court the last few weeks.

Today the usual French sites, l'Equipe, RMC and WLT also had the news of Richard's withdrawal from Shanghai, but no word about the seriousness of the injiury or his plans for the rest of the year.

I think there are two possibilities. Either the ellbow is worse than he thought before, or he really wants to make an effort at the end of the year, notably in Bercy and saves himself the journey to China to be ready for that.

Infiltration vs injection are two different methods of giving the medication
in injection the needle is inserted into one particular spot and the entire dosage of medication is given there
in infiltration the needle is inserted , removed and reinserted in the area to give a broader application of the medicine over a wide area of tissue

the choice depends on the area of the inflammation and the drug of choice to be used

So sorry that this is necessary to repair tissue damage for Richard . I am sorry he will not be there in Vienna , Puschkin.
Hope he has a speedy recovery .

Unwanted persons such as burglars infiltrate your house or others, of undesirable nature, infiltrate your group. Doctors don't infiltrate your body or parts of it. They may inject a substance (medication) in an elbow or in an other part of the body or one of its organs.

I believe it is self explanatory as to difference between injection vs infiltration techniques
I would take them as a source "expert testimony " on the subject .

to explain the difference between the two because someone asked above. I paraphrased their definitions . But this is the source I got the information from .

True, i have very few confidence in the doctor of the FFT. Not the first time, he didn't find Richard's injury and it's the same thing with the others players.

Maybe something else : did it happen because he tried to change his forehand ?

Schu

Please no!! He doesn't need any reason to stop working on a "new" forehand. Richard has had the elbow problem on and off for at least several years and on and off since Roland Garros this year. He missed Bercy a few years ago because of elbow.

Sometimes joint injuries are just a chronic thing and players just have to "live" with it. But sometimes surgery can fix the problem. I know no one wants to have surgery if it can be avoided but MAYBE if his elbow problem is one that can be fixed with surgery he should bite the bullet and just do it instead of wondering when it is going to flare up again and again.

Anyway I know he's very frustrated and I hope he can FULLY recover soon. I don't expect he'll play till 2012 - why play Bercy after no matches since Metz?

I have seen that, too. On the other hand, the news posted about his withdrawal last week sounded definitive.

to be expected, they wrote about a ten days' break last Friday. Let's see for Bercy. I am going Monday- Thursday, so I hope he will play or at least pass by for some promotion.

Hopefully he's alright for Bercy and you get to see him play. These extra days of rest should do him good! :) I know I've said this before but it's very frustrating with the lack of news we get from Richard regarding his injury problems.

Source: http://www.welovetennis.fr/paris-bercy/41462-gasquet-ira-ira-pas

Richard started practising this week, hitting balls with Benneteau. "Richard wants to play and will do everything to be present in Bercy. It is a gamble and obviously not the best preparation" says his physical coach Paul Quétin. This is good news for Richard who has not played since Metz due to an ellbow injury. However, his presence in Bercy is not guaranteed, to be followed.

Completely useless on return as usual

Actually I thought he was more aggressive and effective on returns today at times - he actually went for some returns on the second serve and Anderson does have a good serve.

Considering it was his first match after 6 weeks I thought he played pretty well. Yes the serve was shakey but I expect he was hesitant to push the elbow. and what was with all the foot faults . Best thing about the match was the fact that he managed to loose his serve only once despite the horrid stats. He really wanted to win that one and it was good to see him fighting for it despite the poor serve.

First match in 6 weeks - still not sure how/if elbow will hold up - pressure to play well at home...

Richie against Roger. If he puts his 75%, he can beat Fede. I feel Roger don't care too much about Paris.

Federer beats Gasquet 6-2 6-4.

End of the season for Richard, it's a shame the Asian and European Indoor season was interrupted by injury but it was great for him to return in Bercy.

Hopefully he's fully recovered from his elbow injury and can start 2012 fresh, starting at the Hopman Cup (New Years Eve) Smile

I feel the 2012 season is a big one for Richard to do something! ALLLEZ!

I have seen both matches live. It is plain to see that he is not forcing things on serve, but the FH was quite astonishing. And I felt he moved well and did not retreat.

Otherwise; Bercy is the most fan-unfriendly tourney I know, no chance to watch practise or to see a player or coach in the corridors, besides the access to court 1 and 2 is more than embarrassing, it feels like catacombes.

Believe me Roger cared because he had never won Paris. One of the very few titles he didn't have so he certainly wanted it! And he got it!

Was at both Bercy matches too, found it to be quite encouraging all things considered.

 Love your description of the outside courts! I've always secretly had an odd affection for them though, had a great time watching Mahut and Benneteau beating the Bryans there this year. Maybe it will grow on you. ;) But yes, hate not being able to watch practise.
