Relatively mediocre list overall, since most of these guys are in either poor form, injured, or not good on clay. Good opportunities for DGT, RRH, Prodon and Riba. I don't think Rui should or will play here, but we'll see.

And I was so happy for Thomas that he didn´t draw a seeded guy. Today he would have trashed Janowicz. Sry Nathii, no offense to talented Polish players. I have watched Thomas since his first match agaisnt Niland in Braunschweig last year. Now he has the level to get to 2nd rouns or even QF´s at 30k events. His 1st serve is strong and accurate (between 190-195 km/h on clay). But mostly his forehand improved. Before he couldn´t do much pressure with hi forehand, but nowadays it is a dangerous weapon. He hits a lot of winners. And if you think his fitness is bad....No way. During the two 3rd sets in Todi he was in a better shape than Leo Mayer and M. Fischer.

Btw Marti played really bad today. He lucked it out, with special thanks to Belyaev who played awful, epecially during important points. Always when Marti tried to do some pressure durnig the rallies he misshitted badly. He came through by pushing Belyaev and waiting that he hits some of the most stupid UE´s. I know that Marti is able to improve against better oppenents, but I can´t see him winning against RRH.

Filo V.
09-29-2011, 06:28 AM
Yes, sorry, my train thought got messed up, thinking of Janowicz when you brought him up.

Anyway, Chardy competed well yesterday. But Lammer beating Janowicz isn't the same as he beating someone like Jeremy. Jeremy is a significantly better player than Janowicz, especially on clay.

Lorenzi def. Cervantes 6-4 6-3
Ramirez-Hidalgo def. Marti 6-4 6-4

Filo V.
09-29-2011, 12:01 PM
Marti should look at RRH, or even better, Montanes, as a guideline for what he can be. A grinder with some sort of weapon. Those two can hit some serves in the 120's, Ruben hit a serve 201 KMH. I rarely see Marti out of the 170s KMH. Also when he tries to create offense he misses a lot.

A lot of the other Spanish grinders have developed a weapon to be effective. Ramos is another example. Right now I can't see Marti being anything more than a journeyman.

Javi
09-29-2011, 01:11 PM
Well, give him a break. He's just 19. And there are only 2-3 players of his age or younger with better ranking than Javi.

Nathaliia
09-29-2011, 01:43 PM
Ramos hasn't been more than a journeyman for the past few years and he is still mostly pusher, just got more regular and sometimes can accelerate.

Ruben has found his form again, it's late in the season to do so, but he's making QF/SF consistently now in challengers, should have done so a couple of weeks ago in the Banja Luka challenger though. He's done what I expected of him this week, hope he bags the title.

Even if he doesn't he actually has a legit shot at top 100 this season, even with all the horrible choked losses.

Chardy is a very erratic player, but Prodon doesn't really seem to be in it.

from what I've seen so far this week it should be machado

therefore I almost expect him to take another title this week

Seems every single time he has an opening Chardy finds first serves virtually every time. But he had a second serve at 0-40 and didn't take it.
