Well, just another guy who hopefully doesn't win this event. But a good decision by Kohli, he needs wins and confidence, plus he'll want to finish top 50. Bad for Ilhan since now he'll be unseeded.

misty1
09-07-2011, 02:45 PM
i think marsel will be seeded because i fully expect gilles to withdraw from this event with his deep run at the US

however if he doesnt i still think marsel could beet most of the seeded players, he always does well at home

but if he gets drawn to play kohli in the first round and loses ill be pissed, marsel needs these points

Filo V.

Muller already withdrew. That would have gotten Ilhan the #8 seed, but now Kohli will overtake him.

Quality of the event just took a hit with these losses, but none outside of Bemelmans is surprising, I'm guessing he's injured. Unfortunately it means someone I don't want to make a run is more likely to do just that.

Matsukevich and Mertens are basically BYE's for most players in the MD.

Clement is a bad match-up for Ilhan, IMO. But Marsel will win that match anyway, I think and make the SF here. I hope I'm wrong and Arno takes him out. I'll be upset if Arno loses since the opportunity after that is good to make a run.

Berankis v Bachinger R1, very tough. Richard should win but is he where he needs to be physically, that is the question.

All my dislikes have somewhat tough draws, but not tough enough. Kravchuk can beat Kamke, Berankis should take out Bachinger, Ignatik isn't playing well or fully fit, so Istomin will probably take him out. Horansky is a top junior player, so he can probably give Kukushkin problems. I'm concerned about Istomin, he's the one who could do damage.

On the other hand, Gaba got Brugues-Davi and in the quarter of Kohli, so that sucks. Maybe he can pull off a great run here.

misty1
09-10-2011, 01:20 PM
i really hope marsel beats clement. He needs to do well here to defend the points that he won at this time last year. I know arnaud needs them but marsel needs them to keep his place inside the top 100

it sucks that he probably got one of the hardest round 1's possible for a seeded player

 last year at some point one of the little ball kids was in charge of the on court scoreboard and he was messing around with it. It was wrong most of the time. Unless you followed the chair umpire's calls you would have no idea what the score was.

Anyways this tournament is not exactly spectator friendly. Grown men in designer shades boisterously demand to be let in free citing their club connections where as a handful of regular spectators get ticket-checked everytime they enter the courts. Seriously, I was going to sew my ticket on my shirt. Nevermind the tickets for the early rounds were €3.

Not to mention the disgusting old man who smoked courtside and the tournament director who refused to warn him because he thought he was somebody important.

Yeah, pretty much all of this sums up why we'll never ever be considered for full eu membership. However, I do wonder if they do it all proper and slick in the balkans as well.

I think it is finally time that the ATP brings some kind of rules for the benefit of the transparency of all this tournaments. Challenger Tour level is supposed to be a serious part of the ATP Tour and whoever is not capable of giving regular results updates he shouldn't be a part of the Tour. It is simple enough. If you can't bring regular results updates then what are you doing here? It is not normal that in this day and age, when you can find basically everything on the Internet, nobody can show you a simple thing as a ATP Challenger Tour results. It's pathetic.

Ball hasn't been relevant in a while and McGee has the type of game that would disrupt his rhythm, so I'm not surprised he lost.

Good wins for Goffin and Rycka. Good returning numbers for Berankis. Hopefully Goffin takes out Istomin if they both make the QF.

did some looking and apparently if he wins this it will vault him into the 115-120 range so if he does win he definately has a chance to finish top 100 by the end of the year..assuming a couple things:

1. he remains healthy
2. he does enough to balance what he'll lose from finland near the end of the year

Ilhan down to provisional #111. But now next week is super important he win because if he loses that, he'll then be far enough from the top 100 where he would need to win a challenger to get back in, rather than get a few solid results.

I watched the second set of Ilhan vs Ledovskikh (I actually had to look his name up to post here, we've simply been referring to him as the Russian kid of whom we'd never heard before.) Keep in mind this was the set Ilhan won. It was horrible. He was making errors left and right. I did not see him winning this. Plus it got freezing cold so I left. Let me give you my 2 cents as to why Ilhan lost today first round at home. The 2 days prior to his first match, he was busy playing an exhibition match on Taksim Square with some pop singer, posing for the cameras and playing with these 50+ year-old pretentious rich men at this hotshot CEOs tennis tournament. I understand he has obligations to the federation and what-not but he desperately needs points to stay in top 100. He can't really afford to be all casual. God, I hope he is getting paid for these extra-curricular activities otherwise they will just keep costing him.

Anyways, on to Kohlschreiber-Stadler: Stadler led 4-1 in the second but didn't deliver. This was a good match to watch as both had single-handed backhands. Stadler plays lefty. Of course, Kohli's backhand was prettier.

Kutrovsky- De Schepper: Kutrovsky has clean-straight ground strokes, both double handed. He does hit a one-handed forehand if need be. I like him, seems like a decent guy. I heard him say stuff in English during the match like "jesus, come on etc." So I wonder if he is training elsewhere and not Bulgaria. De Schepper - Le géant is another lefty and has a pretty good serve but seriously at that altitude how could it not be? I mean he is probably like a skinny Isner if not Karlovic. I took many pictures of this match so let me know if anyone is a fan.

Great win for Rycka over someone in good form of late, and coming from a set and break down and losing a hard-fought third set break. Could have collapsed like he has been doing in matches like this, so this win shows he's definitely showing progress post-injury. Hopefully he wins the title now.

Istomin won, that sucks. Goffin dominating Kuku as expected. Goffin should beat Istomin as well.
