James Duckworth won his forth European clay futures event in Italy last week. The question is does this guy have what it takes to make it in the big time? He is 19 years old and made the Roland Garros junior semifinals last year so obviously can play on clay. What if anything do you think about this guy?

I saw him some weeks ago destroying Fabbiano in the Italy F17, 6-1 6-2 if I remember well.. yeah, Fabbiano wasn't that good, he's an honest #300 clay player, but Duckworth impressed me and I thought he will be ready for the Challenger tour next year.. then he suffered some bad first turn defeats (6-4 6-4 against Rosenzweig, 6-3 6-7 6-3 against Tak Khunn Wang) but finally he managed to win a (rather easy) tournament, beating Giorgini 6-2 6-3 in the final, another average clay grinder with 10 years of experience more than Duckworth on the courts..

I still believe in what I thought, next year he'll start to play regularly on the Challenger tour ;)

All depends on James's transition to the newer balls on the Challenger circuit. He has the serve, but having had a stress fracture of his back whilst a junior, he may favour his back and not go all out on the serve. It will be interesting to watch. He is a likable person with a determination to win, a reliable technique on clay and a good work ethic and good mental toughness. I expect him to go under 200 before he is 20. Next year will be tougher for him, having to defend the points gained. This year it is all plus, plus. He had done extremely well and had some fantastic results for a guy his age.
Keep it going James.
