Cipolla qualified here and drew Arno. Unfortunate :(

A potentially good draw just became very tough for Arno now. That match could go either way.

On the bright side, Rainer played a good match today and served well. Hopefully he keeps that up. Also a good win for Nielsen.

Ungur can play on HC, but he probably should have stayed on clay. I think he likes Italy, though. I know he hangs out with the Italians a lot so I guess he speaks the language.

Brezac over Mecir 6-4 6-4.

Martin off to a good start against Del Bonis, 3-0 :o

07-26-2011, 10:59 AM

De Schepper - Middelkoop 7-5 *0-0

Great win for Martin :o I know it's on hard and Del Bonis has been lacklustre this year, but still.

07-26-2011, 12:15 PM
De Schepper beat Middelkoop 7-5 4-2 Ret.

07-26-2011, 01:07 PM
+ Del Bonis can't play on hardcourt :tape:

I remember how he used to be our favourite in the challenger forum 2-3 years ago

07-26-2011, 01:53 PM
Burquier bt cox 7-5,6-0

Good wins for the french guys today brezac, martin,de schepper, burquier all winning without dropping a set

Bautista-Agut beat Walter 6-1 7-6 (5)

Filo V.
07-26-2011, 02:44 PM
DelBo's hype has certainly gone away, but I still heavily support him. But the next DelPo statements(in terms of the next Argentinian young hope) were always ridiculous.

He can't play on hardcourt. Should have chosen Dortmund or Tampere to play this week.

07-26-2011, 02:54 PM
Zemlja over Torresi 6-3 6-2

07-26-2011, 02:54 PM
Ghedin doing well against Ungur 6-3 1-0*

Ungur also should have opted for clay, even though he is not as unskilled on hard as Del Bonis. Tough draw for him, facing Ghedin on what I consider to be his best surface.

Filo V.
07-26-2011, 02:57 PM
Ghedin is definitely a hardcourter. He's got a pretty nice game to watch when he plays well.

Filo V.
07-26-2011, 09:16 PM
Cipolla totally took Arno out of his game. Arno attacked a lot but made tons of errors in doing so, and Flavio just kept getting the balls back, hit the slice intelligently, and counter-punched. Very upsetting, an easy draw potentially for Arno ends up in an R1 loss.

Rainer has to win this event.

misterious player...

07-28-2011, 11:52 AM

it's not easy to resume play the day after with different conditions and stamina
both Giraldo with Haider Maurer in Gstaad and Brezac with Nielsen totally choke...

07-28-2011, 01:07 PM
Bautista 6-4 0-0 Ungur
Schuettler 4-4 Galvani

07-28-2011, 01:09 PM
Bautista vs. Ungur should be a good match on clay, but on hard the Spaniard is the favourite. But I already thought Ungur would bow out to Ghedin.

6-4 3-2 Bautista

Schuettler 6-7 Galvani

Fuck OFF Rainer. Total bullshit those final two games. Absolutely vile result, I want to throw up.

This tournament was sitting on a platter for him to win. I'm amazed he failed here.

07-28-2011, 02:16 PM
the two granpas are still on the run
Galvani is a dangerous opponent when he is in a good day
he has a great timing and impact on the ball, and you have to be concerned in putting him defensive
otherwise you have to run a lot after the balls
Galvani and Schuettler styles are very similiar and in h2h they're very close
in the last few minutes it went 7-6 6-4
well done for Stefano!

Filo V.
07-28-2011, 02:20 PM
Looking at the draw now, I couldn't care less who wins at all, but I like Nielsen so it would be nice to see him win this. As long as DE SCHEPPER does NOT win.

Filo V.
07-28-2011, 02:22 PM
Rainer must be in the mood for charity losses because he was donating errors to Galvani the entire match. Galvani is a tricky player, but Rainer playing at 100% wins 6-2 6-3. His returning was especially bad.

07-28-2011, 02:30 PM
With Galvani these days I think it is not about form, but purely about motivation. I like the guy and am very happy he beat one of those players whose retirement I won't be lamenting one bit.

07-28-2011, 07:25 PM
filo why you getting emotional about schuettler not winning this tournament who gives a fuck he's an old man now his time has come and gone would be better for someone like de schepper to win this tournament.

07-28-2011, 07:55 PM
From now on I will get very emo when Polish and Russian guys happen to lose. We need some diversity on this board...

Filo V.

filo why you getting emotional about schuettler not winning this tournament who gives a fuck he's an old man now his time has come and gone would be better for someone like de schepper to win this tournament.Rainer has a good game, is still motivated to play and can still play at the ATP level. De Schepper isn't that good of a player. Rainer, being 35, needs to win events like this to continue his career. So it's an unfortunate loss, because looking at the draw, not many guys you would believe Rainer should lose to. It's a missed opportunity.

07-29-2011, 09:10 AM
Great job Micio :worship: Obviously J. Minar is a weak opponent, so De Schepper will be much more of a challenge, but that scoreline is very rare for Flavio. If he can take out the Frenchman I think Galvani and Nielsen are manageable too.

Forza :rocker:

07-29-2011, 10:56 AM
What is up with the scheduling today martin v gaio is at 2pm then agut v zemlja is not before 9pm so potentially either martin or gaio can be through by 3.30pm and is agut and zemlja have a long match that goes 2 or more hours could finish at 11.30pm then have to come back tomorrow and play the semi's crazy scheduling i know its just best of 3 sets but the order of play shouldnt be like this.

07-31-2011, 05:53 PM
I think he could have problems, but the ambulance was not called at the time of the accident, which tells us that the judge is probably okay.

He's experienced. Could affect both players, actually.

07-31-2011, 05:59 PM
Martin doesn't look too affected actually
Good for him and for the game

07-31-2011, 06:03 PM
I'm too young but Edberg killed a linesman at the USOpen I believe

"Line judge dies on court, Flushing Meadows, NY, USA, 1983. Future Swedish great Stefan Edberg was playing the Aussie Simon Youl in the final of the USO boys’ event. Suddenly, out of the blue, one of the line judges, 60 yrs old Dick Wertheimer, received a direct hit from a tennis ball in the nether regions. He immediately fell off his chair, cracked his skull on one of the Flushing Meadows’ hard courts and suffered a heart attack on his way to hospital. Tragically, just a few days later, the poor man passed away."

Impressive level of Fabrice during the week, he has a very good s&v style I really don't get why he didn't breakthrough before

Very good week for french tennis btw :D

I don't like de Schepper but another good performance for him.

07-31-2011, 07:32 PM
Now that he has his first challenger title, maybe Martin can next work on snapping his 7 match losing streak in futures :p

07-31-2011, 09:00 PM
I didn't watch any match this week from this event... looks like some wonder breakthrough. Anyway I'm happy with any s&v player going far. ITF says he's coached at Bolletieri (or at least was coached there...). I thought they lately were producing some forehand only brainless players :o

07-31-2011, 09:34 PM
Nice win for Fabrice, i hope he will countinue wining strake, very impresive !!! there new boy in town :)))

well done to martin hopefully he pushes on from here and plays some more challengers dont get how a guy with a game like martin can be ranked 507

08-01-2011, 07:23 AM
Really weird week. Martin hasn't shown anything before, then comes crashing onto the scene to take the title here by beating some good players.

08-01-2011, 07:24 AM
Martin was also at the Bollettieri Academy, so the potential was always there. Pretty weird for it only to come out now for someone who was born in 1986.

08-01-2011, 09:16 AM
Well i dont understand with a game like his how he can lose to mugs in futures, his 1st serve is massive his 2nd serve is great aswell which he gets very deep in the box and serves and volleys off, and his volleys are of a high standard aswell. Out of the 8 matches he played this week to lose your serve 3 times in total is a pretty good stat.

As for his baseline game it needs some work but is of pretty good standard for his size and his returning needs improving aswell but this week he did a great job of putting pressure on servers and managing to get breaks using the chip and charge play and going for outright winners off the serve which is something a guy like him needs to do if he holds so easily he may aswell have a swing off the return and thats what he did well this week.

His mental strength seems good aswell because to lose a 6-1 lead in a tie break to win your first challenger final plus at the back of his mind the linesperson that he may of injured and then to recover and win the 3rd set was impressive so well done to fabrice.

Career high ranking of 307 this week rises 200 places hopefully he can get his ranking up and start playing challengers more often some indoor challengers on the horizon and from what i saw this week he will be well suited to fast indoor courts and really can trouble anyone at the challenger level.

08-01-2011, 10:07 AM
Imagine what martin can do in the indoor challengers

his game style and body shape reminds me of gilles muller.

08-01-2011, 11:51 AM
Yeah martin in indoor challengers will be unbreakable for life

08-01-2011, 06:36 PM
very entertaining final, not mug pushing like you see in most challengers (and many ATP for that matter)

Martin has a sweet attacking game, good serve, pretty good at the net

as for his record, you can see that he did quite well at beginning of the year and then lost most of his recent matches played on clay/grass.
Obviously not his best surfaces
