a much better opponent for Del Potro than Rochus, better match-up,

Del Potro will have much time to adjust his shots in order to pull the trigger at the best moment, a huge challenge for Simon if he wants to survive, I see Del Potro in 3 sets

The result will be thoroughly bad for grass court tennis.

Simon is a pretty shifty player that will drive Del Potro to a lot of errors if Pony has a bad day.

In the end I think Del Potro will win it being saved by a good serve but i could see a similar situation like his Rochus match where he could get a set down before it starts working for him. Del Potro in 4.

Del Potro in 4.

He's serving well, so that's good.

If Juan Martin serves well, then this will be a straight sets win and hopefully he will get a rest day.

Can't see Delpo losing this. Simon should give him plenty of time to run round onto to his forehand and boom them anywhere he feels like.

this will be an interesting match if simon brings his top game.......he has the game to negate del potro's power......serving well is vital for both players......one of those matches which i don't care about the winner and just enjoy the tennis......

You're thoroughly a fail.

Simon not playing with a great deal of self-belief at the moment, whereas Del Potro will expect himself to power through the Frenchman's meek baseline game. Could get messy at points if Del Potro continues to struggle with his footing and timing, but he shouldn't need more than four sets.

Gilles, was fightiing back. Hopefully he can take it. It's too bad with the weather for both, if they do not finish today.

DelPo is the most unfortunate player ever. :( He has no damn rest day :( .

The Pony in 4 or even 3. I can't see Simon winning.

In 2008, these two were a lot of the talk of the summer hard courts, and played in the 3rd round of the US Open against each other. Delpo won in 5 tough sets, and I think this will go 5 as well

First, he hasn't even won the match yet. And second, there's no play on sunday so everybody gets a rest.

Anyway, after watching those two sets, it's clear that Del Potro is pretty pants on this stuff. He knows it and just resorted to hitting the ball down the middle and slicing for most of the match. His serve and one-two punches were his saving grace, but by the second set Simon (who should have won the first set anyway) was reading his serve while Delpo looked like, to quote Miss Pova, a cow on ice.

You could see that Gilles came out expecting to chase everything down, but it eventually became clear that he wasn't. Pretty ironic watching him dictating play off the ground at the end of the first set and beginning of second, considering people around here call him a pusher.

But the rain and this cancellation suits Del Potro.

The Pony might be crap on grass but he will still beat Simon. I have not seen Del-potro's matches at Wimbledon so far so I'm not sure how well he is playing but I still expect him to come through against Simon.

Del Potro won against Simon one week ago at "the boodles exhibition tournament", easily in 2 sets ( 6-4, 6-1 ) on grass :

Del Potro seemed a little tired today against Simon, lack of power, unusual unforced errors, I hope tomorrow he will be in better shape and more agressive ( serve, dictate the play )

Well then you haven't seen him look clueless on grass; Tutu's description of a "cow on ice" is perfect.

If he wins it's cuz his serve and ONLY his serve bailed him out plus he'll need a little help from Simon which could happen but Simon's got to feel pretty confident after watching DelPo stumble around on the grass.

I think Simon has outplayed Del Potro for much of this match. He had more chances to win the first set and was playing extremely well in the second. Delpo's serve saved him a lot during certain stages. That said, the rain delay helps Del Potro alot and if he gets his footing I think he's probably the favorite.

Now I am a little worried :scared:. I have missed so much tennis during the week because of work . At the French Del-potro's movement looked good. His movement on grass has always been suspect but I assumed he had worked on that. All the more reason to extend the grass season by a week or 2.

Exhibition being the operative word. Simon was apparently injured from Queens with a strapped back and barely moving, and he spent more time blowing kisses to drunk old ladies in the crowd than actually trying to win.
