Been a high quality match, Harrison has the better grass court game but Ferrer is brutally tough as always. Should be an exciting finish tomorrow. Harrison is so impressive for a youngster, top 5 in his future.

Was following this in patches between the Tsonga-Dimi match and the quality looked amazing. Looks to be going to 5 sets and Harrison looks stunning while keeping up with Ferrer. Pure grinders paradise this.

Hopefully Ryan takes it in the 5th tomorrow.

This isn't even The surface for Harrison. Impressive stuff, really proud how he plays in the MD, seeing him struggling in the qualies and only getting lucky. Just goes to show that you never know with the youngsters, their mentality and is bouncing quite alot. Hopefully Ryan can pull this off, but still is a great tournament for him, proved himself as a "All surface" player.

Harrison was really impressive. Break should be an advantage for him.

Break will be good for both guys. Ferrer can recharge his batteries, Ryan can work out new strategies. Expect David to wrap up the fourth set, but the fifth will be a cracking end.

Harrison has been really lucky with all these rain breaks, he couldn't handle Ferrer's consistency and speed for more than 1 hour. Rain might save him.

What consistency ? Ferru was anything but that in this match.

It will be very interesting to see each of their mentalities tomorrow. I think they both come out fighting but you never know.

Even if Harrison doesn't win this, I'm still impressed that he took 2 sets off of Ferrer. ;)

This match was completely ironic because while Ferrer was losing his shit literally every two seconds, getting code violations etc, Ryan was completely quiet through the whole match. But great stuff from Ryan and a great match, hope he can finish it tomorrow.

No fucking clue man, that's why it's so funny.

Maybe he's one of these players that thrives in the big matches. Happens to alot of other guys, can be tough to cope with the day-to-day grinding in tennis, some just bring their best and excel in special atmospheres or against bigger players. Maybe it's not a surprise to see him do well in the bigger American tournaments where he gets alot of support, and a good atmosphere, or playing on a showcourt at Wimbledon against a very good top 10 player. Might also help to take some pressure away.

The way he was swinging today, you can see it's a young gun without much to lose.

I agree--Ferrer tends to be a youngster killer, so for Ryan to take two sets is really impressive :worship:

Harrison beat Beck like 1 and 2 last year in Newport. Let's hope he gets through this match v Ferrer and he could very well be in R4.

hmmm yeah i felt an upset could happen in this match after just looking at Harrisons stats from R1 (and also remember how hard he battled vs Soderling in RG). Harrison proves the confidence in him was not misplaced and that he indeed is one major candidate to become a top player in the future. Going to be interesting to see how this match ends

Well here I was in the WWW thread talking about how Harrison has no weapon to trouble Ferrer....then he takes 2 out of 3 sets on him today with pure ballsy play. Harrison's weapons are his gigantic balls. Never seen anybody go big on so many 2nd serves. He goes to net more often than most. He even comes to net after his returns sometimes, his own variation of the chip-and-charge return(except he double-hands it instead of slice). In the middle of rallies he'll just unload on a ball out of nowhere to disrupt his opponent's rhythm or get them on the defensive. All generally high-risk moves that Harrison made look as if they were his normal game today. There's no way he's playing like this and losing against guys in qualies....Harrison ups his game for the big stage. He just needs to make his way to the big stage more often.

That said, Ferrer still has the advantage and should be able to grind out a win here. He's just too good and solid a player. Harrison will have to play lights out to win this. I look forward to it.

Harrison has a great all-round game, amazingly complete and well balanced for someone who only just turned 19. Ferrer will probably grind it out tomorrow, but it's still an impressive showing.

Now he needs to figure out how to bring the big game to the smaller events, outside the US or slams, with little crowd support. He's still only 120ish in the rankings, he needs to start making 250 qfs and the like regularly, get to the top50 and then the real pro journey begins: playing guys like Ferrer every week.

Loving Harrison's game. The result of this changes nothing. He's proven he's a star of the future and can keep his game dynamic enough to work on any surface.

Me too, and his attitude. Here's a nice article about him: http://thebigtip.com.au/tennis/star-rising

Best match of the tournament so far.

Ryan needs a stage like this, but he needs to perform on less interesting courts as well.

If he plays like yesterday in the 5th, he can well win this.
