Very good match.
Really impressive, similar to Lleyton vs Soda. (I think it was even better!)
Tsonga serving for the match at 5-4. Grigor with 2 MP at 6-5. Excelent Tiebreak.

If you enjoy tennis, you must watch the hightlights (If you don't saw the whole match).
Amazing stuff, Jo. Amazing stuff, Grigor.

Dimitrov played really well, that BH is just delicious.
I really believe he'll be top 10 soon, he deserves more than this.

Jo is improving his volleys very well...
His serve's looking good (Almost 20 aces).
His FH is strong, as usual. I'm really glad to see Jo playing this way.

Go Stronga!!!!
This is tennis!

Man, that was great to watch. Dimi must have just gained a ton of fans. His gamestyle never ceases to impress, and he put on a brave performance. More to come from him I'm sure. Can pretty much call this a breakthrough.

Tsonga showed his experience and edged it really, good on him.

Best match of Wimby 2011 so far.

Tsonga got through a very tricky match against Grigor. From what I saw it was highly competitive. Great ending... so happy even with some Mug moments by Tsonga. Grigor returned like a BEAST today, it was like he was seeing a melon on the return.

Awesome match, everything a tennis fan likes in this game was there.

About the failed tweener - wasn't the tweener that ended the match, it was the incredible defensive lob of Tsonga, couldn't have done it better.

As for next round, sorry to disapoint the ans, but there won't be much to be seen. Tsonga will walk over the rusty Chilean in less than 2 hours. Unfortunately.

Anyways, future for Grigor looks bright.

I'm not sure Dimitrov has the physical gifts to be a top top player. Seems a bit slow and sluggish, doesn't have a particularly natural talent for footwork and seems physically a bit weak. His serve is also a bit of a liability and his game lacks a true weapon.

His shot-making capacity and variety is very high but does he really have the physical potentials to make any of this count to an extent where he is a future major groper.

Harrison looks better equipped. He is strong, fast, pretty natural athlete and also has a varied game with plenty of shot-making finesse. He too though hasn't developed any real weapon yet, though his serve is coming along. His forehand is often very loopy and lame. I prefer his prospects though.

They're both very young and both challenged today high flyers, especially Tsonga on grass is no walk in the park, you can ask Rafa for example.

As for the prospects - way too early to say with conviction, though considering these lads' clay possibilities, i'd rather differ from your conclusion.

Time will tell

Fair post.

But when I compare the physical gifts of these players to the players of previous generations at the same age, Dimitrov comes up short.. against Hewitt, Sampras, Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and even Del Potro.

Harrison compares well though, his physical gifts certainly seem up there.

I just expected a little more core strength at this stage from Dimitrov, and his body shape is ExtremelY slender.

As you say, time will tell and maybe he can develop sufficiently.

He will develop physically imo. He is much stronger now than he was a couple years ago f.e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jmLkPjDzLQ

Physique you can grow, as long as talent is there and will to work.

Murray couple years ago, maybe 3, was even worse physically.

Then he went to this magic adidas camp trip in Vegas and came back as a gladiator :D

I like both these youngsters, like them more than Dolgo, Raonic, Berankis, Tomic even Nishikori, all of them very good players as well ofc, but still the sparkle of pure talent to be grown and evolve in highest quality players i see only in these two we're talking about.

In any case, the new generation is stepping up and soon the tour will be even more exciting.

I don't agree with the bolded part. Murray needed a lot of work on fitness but his general gift for anticipation and his general speed and physical gifts were always quite apparent.

Dimitrov is incredibly lithe and makes Djoker look obese. But yep he has time on his side and I hope my suspicions of his physical capacities are wrong because it looks like he's the only young prospect who harbours a one-handed bh...

Gotta love MTFs kneejerk reactions. We all knew long ago Dimitrov is very talented but this match has shown he has evolved fuck all in terms of wisedom when being on a tennis court, his bh breaks down with ease, has a terrible shot selection most of the times and hes quite a choker as well.

DwyaneWade
06-23-2011, 11:07 PM
I love Dimitrov's talent. Today was the first day I really got a look at him, Tomic, and Harrison side by side and I have to say Harrison and Dimitrov "should" be the best of that crop.

That said Dimitrov reminds me more of a mentally tougher Gasquet than Federer. He doesn't have that rally-ending shot of either wing that Roger has and that was apparent when Tsonga would push the issue in the longer rallies.

Grigor has the potential to get the consistency and physical prowess though, pure talent to me just means the ability of ones potential. Nalbandian has talent, federer does, in fact everyone does just some have more than others. Mentality is a different thing but linked to it.

High quality match. Very entertaining. This is how tennis should be played on grass.

It was a good showing from Dimitrov & the first time he's done anything to begin to justify the hype, but let's not get carried away: Gulbis's demolition of Boredo at the U.S. Open that time was more impressive, & look where it got him. Seems ridiculously hard for young players to break through these days.
