X-Man needed a set to get into a rhythm. The final three sets, he was so much the better player, in control of almost all baseline rallies, returning well, and moving Mayer around and also using the dropshot a fair bit. X-Man was simply the better player on the day. Good win for him.

Too bad they didn't go 5, this could've been a 5 setter played under 2 hours...

Malisse doing a good job defending his points here from last year, definitely has a shot against Tursunov/Melzer

X-Man is probably the favorite in his next round also.

Florian has never been at his best on the quicker courts. He's best courts are medium speed, like at the AO. Lower bouncing, quicker courts expose his forehand too much, and force him out of his comfort zone. But Malisse is simply the better player of the two, especially on grass, so this result was to be expected.

It's not inconceivable that Malisse could reach the QF here, he'd arguably be favourite vs Melzer, then his possible R16 opponents are an out-of-form Soderling, a Hewitt who would likely be struggling physically if he got that far, or Tomic/Andreev. Could be 2002 all over again!

Sweet! X's capable of more damage, keep going!

If another epic pre-tournament QF prediction comes through for me after Fog at RG... :worship:

I really don't understand why Florian just stopped giving a damn after the good first set. The man is a mystery to me.

For me also this time X in the quarters :)

But i've already sucked with Steps also there.

Good win for Malisse! Mayer was 6-1 3-3 up, and X had 15-40 on his serve. After that chance game went in another side.

I think this is actually Malisse who started giving a damn ;)
