Good fighting win for Robin while injured with his foot again, it seemed. Picasso, really it was a blown opportunity for him, as he had major opportunities/leads in the first two sets and didn't take them. Picasso was 5/21 on break points and won more return points. Match was entertaining, quality was very up and down. If Hewitt is healthy and can bounce back from today, he has a real shot at Soderling.

2-6 not 3-6 ;)
Now this is what I call a tennis match. :yeah:

Great match but awful choking from both at times.

Highly entertaining. I just wish Petz could hit over his backhand.

Very entertaining match. Soda managed to play great tennis on pretty much all big points. Petz too passive on break points as well. Really think he should have taken it to 5, could very well have won this. Testament to Soda's fight.

Wind destroyed this match imo, otherwise it would've been really epic most probably. Now it was a decent match at best, fourth set was distinctively better than the rest though.

^ the MP was just what a call a slice war. Can't go for big shots on such low and good slices as Petz can do. It's the right strategy to slice it back and wait for an angle or a shorter slice to walk in

Great match. I pretty much saw this as a R3/R4. Petz is that good on grass and with another draw I think he could have reached R3/R4 somewhere. Even QF. He took 2 sets of Nadal last year for a reason

Great match, very entertaining, with lots of amazing shots from both sides. Too bad these two players had to meet so early - it's a true shame that Petzschner, one of the few great grass court-players, is already out. :(
Söderling was obviously the better player, the big difference - imho - being his ability to keep his cool on the big points, where Petzschner stayed too passive a lot of times.

Keep it going Sod! :rocker2:
Petzschner

It's really sad how Germans are just too stupid to take their chances and to win close matches....

It's a shame Petzschner was still handicaped with his back so he couldn't serve properly

Wow... Soda vs Hewitt really has potential to be a terrific matchup.

wow mannn can't say how sad i am about this, Picasso had his chances, probably a 5th set and he would've had this match. what a shame, Petzz has the ability to be a great grass court player

this seems superrr duper discriminatory thing to say haha, but i even have to agree a bit, I don't know what it is with Kohlsheiber and Petz and the Germans, so much talent but they seem scared of biting the bullet or taking risk at the right times

Petz really does have a terrific game, particularly for grass, although the occasional topspin backhand just to mix things up would be nice. I'd love to see him have at least one good (QF) run in this tournament. Shame he was robbed by Nadal's cheating last year. As for Sod, he held it together mentally today but I'm not convinced by his form.

If Petzschner had a real backhand he would probably be a more solid player but also a far less entertaining one. That dropshot to save one of MPs was simply outrageous, in a good sense.

Petzschner was probably still not at 100%. His serve looked so damn slow today. The surface looked really slow too.

Entertaining match, but the quality of play was very up and down for the first 3 sets. The wind just made it hilarious to watch at times, the ball just stopped completely etc.

The wind died down a bit towards the end though and the final breaker was full of excellent shots. Imagine if it had been like that all match.

Very good for Robin to pull through in the end. Feel bad for Petz, with a better draw he could've made a decent run here.

Soderling is so mentally tough, Petz such a choker. That was difference. Petzschner shoulda won all 4 sets

that pet'ner backhand is from 1920s, unfit to survive in today's game.......i don't care how good the rest of his game is, he can't go too far with such a weak backhand.......a chicken can kick a stone with more power.......

Flip-flop should have won this in straights, but w/e - classic petz ;)

Sod has really tough first 2 rounds. If he comes through, he should test Djokovic.

It's really sad how Germans are just too stupid to take their chances and to win close matches....

What about Greul... oh, wait. Becker then? Oh, worst tiebreak record in the top100. Phau! Oh, doublefaults endlessly whenever in trouble. Kohlschreiber! Fat Berrer the king of Zagreb!

Never mind, I concede the point. Mayer is perhaps the only exception, which is why his ranking is so much better.

Don't be a clown. Petzschner is the defending Wimbledon champion. Remember how he punished his opponents serves last year with the bh.

unlucky draw for pesci

Should've been third rounder minimum.

Bad luck for Petzschner to draw Söderling in the 1st round.

Now good luck together with Jürgen for the doubles and also to Robin for his next matches.

Yeah, I was sad to see Petzschner against Robin. He really could have made a good run here with a favorable draw.

What an entertaining and tight four setter!

But the quality from both players could have been better.

It was a very tactical match.
Petzschner played like 453 slice backhands and tried his best - he was good in parts - but he was't able to took a lot of chances.
Bad break point conversion from both.

Söderling played ok but grass is just not his favourable surface as we saw today one more time.

Irrelevant match. Soderling is a non factor at this Wimbledon. QF at best.

Hewitt vs. Soderling matchup could go either way if Hewitt recovers a bit from his injury. Sad Petzschner had to bow out so early :(
