Good result for the game. Serve stats are great. 25 aces, 67% first serves, 50 winners.

Dolgopolov is useless recently, so it's good to see him lose. I'm sure Gonzalez will love this.

a chronically injured 30 year old beats the hope of the tennis to come... what can i say? further proof that tennis today is even muggier than 5 years ago.

and nadaltards and fakotards desperately say that this is the best era ever

Dolgo can't back up early season successes, needs to estabilish himself in the new situation, anyway Gonzalez is far from being a random name, he is a very good player and needed this win more.

I actually expected Gonzalez to win this. Dolgopolov is completely useless at the moment.

Well your thread was made properly Mr. Life so you should make more of them. I don't want to make threads anymore, it's tiring.

Both hit a lot of winners but Gonzo's return, serve and error stats are better. Ultimately I would say Gonzo's experience level and being a bit more solid in his game got him through here. Dolgo is still too wild.

I actually expected Gonzalez to win this. Dolgopolov is completely useless at the moment.

the loss was never in doubt......i told many times before that dolgopolov is effective only if they play with lighter balls......

he is a wristy player and his game is effective when the balls are not too heavy for the wrist......he is just not the type that can rely on hitting through with these heavier balls.......

Double-standards alert. You'll make threads the "acceptable way" unless you consider it a disgusting result for tennis/you don't like the winner/you have something to whinge about, which is basically 90% of the time. Do the forum another favour and realise 'My way or the highway' doesn't work online.

With that said, I didn't expect Dolgo to do much at Wimby, so grats to Gonzo, get to the 3rd round and round off a good comeback mate!

I honestly should have expected this after the Troicki loss.

Filo V.
06-21-2011, 09:54 PM
Ignoring the stupidity on this thread, I never said Dolgo losing is good for tennis. Gonzo winning, however, is very good for tennis. Dolgo winning would have been nice, but clearly Gonzo needs this more for various reasons. This is the type of win that shows that Gonzo is not a has-been, and his presence on tour is needed.

If Gonzo is healthy, he's better than Dolgo on grass and he has the exact type of game to hurt Dolgo, which is overpowering him. I'm surprised more that Gonzo is already at such a high level than the result, per se.

Dolgo needs more time on other surfaces outside of clay to perform consistently on those surfaces, his expectations are a bit too high right now. He's still a developing kid.

As a fan you just see the positive aspects of the game of your favourite player.
Dolgopolov has SO MANY positive aspects in his game.
A lot more than Troicki or Melzer for example.

But he has SO MANY negative things in his game, in his gameplan, in his tactics, in his cool mentality etc. as well.
More than Troicki or Melzer as well.

I really like Dolgopolov and his game.

He has all the shots and the fitness to compete with the world's best.

On clay and on grass he still has huge problems.
And he has problems to play his best tennis on moments, on a few rallies called big points.

With a Best of seven sets system, a player like Dolgopolov would win a lot more matches.
Because he has so many opportunities to make a point (to hit to ball), he does not decide the right one every time.

He has some problems on returning as well.
So Fernando Gonzalez could hit 25 aces.

I think that Dolgopolov has to play more with the score of points in his memory.

So he will lose a lot more matches where he is actually the better player (not just the more talented player but the better player with the better/ more winners and the player with more variety) but still loses.

From time to time he has no gameplan but just stands there and plays his tennis with so many variety but no adaptation to his opponent.

I really hope he will do better on the US Hardcourt season.

As for Gonzalez, it is a very nice win in the later stages of his career.

Love you Fernando! Did pick him to win this, albeit hesitantly. Dolgo has been useless since the clay court tournaments began. He might find something on the hardcourts after SW19, but he's playing like a shadow of the Australian Open at the moment

Great to see Gonzalez back in the winner's circle. I hope his body holds up because he's a great name to have around.

Dolgopolov is still having fun with his low percentage play, but it won't last long if he can't win any matches at all. He either has a bad coach in Reader, or is a bad student himself.
